hey guys, caught sight of the batman: dead end thread ("A fanfilm?"), and seeing some of the disappointment, we hope you guys will like what we're doing http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif we saw dead end at the comic con, so we totally hear where the haters are coming from.

Mourning After is a short movie that will chronicle batman's struggle to deal with jason todd's death, while trying to keep tim drake from following the same path. our short features a gritty batman, a la frank miller's dark knight returns.

right now we're facing some dilemnas, but we're determined to make this movie come hell or high water. we've only one day of shooting under our belts, we're hoping to shoot again this weekend.

so those interested can visit our site at http://enriquegarcia.net/batman2/ . we've also got a fan trailer for "year one" at http://enriquegarcia.net/batman/ that we released in april.

I think almost any plot is better than the one in Batman http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/biggrin.gifead End but it's still the best visual representation of any live-action Batman ever caught on film. And from what the director has said, that's all it was ever meant to be.

I viewed the trailers and the animation tests for Year One. The film quality and costume looks to be a step up from "Death Of Batman", which is a good sign. Batman & Robin fighting Joker's gang in broad daylight, that's a bad sign! I gotta give you guys credit for having the ambition to put Clayface in there, and he looks pretty good too. What really has me eager to see Year One is that fight scene with Batman Catwoman and Robin on the rooftop in the rain. That looks incredible. I'm surprised I never heard of this film until now, but then again, I had never heard of Goblin's Last Stand until last year.

And for your new film Batman: Mourning After, well that certainly looks interesting but it makes me wonder why nobody ever makes Nightwing fan films. The story of how Dick Grayson originally became Nightwing is a pretty good one, and I think Bat-fans would like to see that on film one day.

Anyway, good luck to you guys.

oh ya, that's the thing i forgot to mention... NIGHTWING IS FEATURED IN OUR MOVIE! the backstory to Mourning After is how batman and nightwing are trying to figure out who's been committing a string of crimes, and the backstory itself ties into tim drake's ultimate fate http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif
as for the joker scene being in daylight, well, that's kinda unavoidable as it's an action scene, the camera basically follows the action as it unfurls. the best i could do was minimize the amount of sky in each shot. but to all those who say "why didn't you just shoot it at night", all i have to say is, the entire movie was shot during the day. 'nuff said.

Great trailers man.Being amateur or whatever youd like to call it.....you have a talent.I am also getting into directing and was wondering what programs you used to do clayface and such.Anyway....I can't wait to see the final reslut. So far it looks pretty good.

Good luck

sounds to me like the "final result" you're talking about is "year one"? if so, what you saw is what you got http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif . "year one" was intended only as a fan trailer and an experiment in what we could do for "mourning after".
as for what i used for clayface, that'd be 3ds max 4 (which was also used for all the rest of the 3D). i use polygonal, or box, modelling. the textures are entirely procedural, no bitmaps were used at all. rigging was done with character studio. his face at one point was rigged as well, but this was before i got my 2.4 ghz system, so i cut out facial animation as it slowed me down tremendously.
3ds max 4 will again be used for "mourning after", and hopefully the rendering will be handled with vray for photorealism.

Interesting......I didnt understand what alot of that meant "lol"

I like directing my own films.....shows my ideas and creativity.I'd like to do my own Batman film....horror....historic...just so many ideas. What camera do you use?Where can I get the programs that you used for the CGI?

Thanks Moviemaker,
Wade

"A fan trailer"? Do you mean something like "Hardware Wars" (the 1978 Star Wars spoof by Ernie Fosselius) that was just like a "coming atractions" trailer?

Alamo, I'm using a cheap ol' Sony Digital8 Handycam (one I bought over a year ago just before Sony stopped making them). As to where to find 3ds max, you'll have to fork out a few grand at your local software dealer, unless you can find a store that gives student discounts (which would require you to be a student http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif ). The only reasonable free 3D program I know of is Blender (http://www.blender.org I believe), but it's really difficult for me to learn since I've already gotten used to 3ds max, since version 3.
As for "Mourning After", what with all the production hold backs we're having right now and the fact that I'm the only one doing post-production, I'll be lucky to put this out any earlier than February next year http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/frown.gif

Khalel, I don't remember Hardware Wars well enough, but I do remember it was like 10-15 minutes long, far too long for a trailer. I think it was just a really, really fast short movie http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/biggrin.gif

I totally understand what you mean. When I was experimenting with 3D programs Blender was one of the applications I tried using. After a few days I knew that program was not for me. Still, I've seen what other people have done with Blender and it seems to get results as good as 3D Studio Max.

When I bought it it was $400 plus tax. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a mic-input (seems most cams in this range don't). It's the DCR-TRV140 model (now the 147, I think).

yes, it is hard. i can't speak for BJ, but i myself am completely stretched thin between my fulltime job, "mourning after", and the other various side-projects i've got going.

in "mourning after" news, tomorrow will be a generally short shoot day with 2 very small scenes and 1 large scene planned. also, i'm happy to report, true post-production has finally begun, with the opening title sequence being around 1/3 done. everyone cross their fingers so i can put out a teaser by the end of november!
