Well friends.
I can gloat, and I can gloat forever. I can remember back in 1999 when I was the only man who had ever heard of Christian Bale
and I was the only one who wanted Bale as Batman while mostly everyone else wanted Ben Affleck at the time especially Stew, who hasn't been on this site for years now.
Now that it is official, we can continue to talk about the casting facts and suggestions here.
Thanks,
Dr. F

I don't think she's appearing in it at all. Unless they're gonna have the assistant D.A (Katie Holmes) as Talia undercover.

I seriously hope it's not Katie Holmes. I keep hearing she's someone named Rachel. Now I like her... but I just can't see her in the role.
As for this talk of Ken Watanabe.. Essex said soeming about him as Ra's, but I haven't read that elsewhere. Then I thought.. maybe he'd be Ubu? Maybe it's jsut teh blad head he already has, but he might be a pretty bad assed Ubu. Then again I guess I could see him as Ra's. Dunno how I feel about Ra's being Japanese, but I don't see it altering the character that much. Just shows he travled even more before gaining the arabic name Ra's Al Ghul. I forget what ehtnicity he actaully is anyway. Plus I think Watanabe can be quite powerful and thus a good Ra's.
btw.. if Watanabe is Ra's.. I'm thinking a half Asian Talia. And I know she's alrady on Smallville and maybe she's a bit young looking, but I could see Kristin Kreuk as Thalia at least by look. Then again I dunno if her voice is right.

Watanabe will play the villainous Ra's Al Ghul, an immortal strategic mastermind who wants to bring his own brand of order to the world.
Watanabe joins Bale, cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman; Michael Caine as Wayne's trusted butler Alfred; Katie Holmes as a childhood friend of Wayne's; Liam Neeson as Wayne's mentor Henri Ducard; and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, a former board member and sidelined employee of Wayne Enterprises.

Well... seems Talia is still up in the air.
Still not sure how I feel about a Japanese Ra's, but I do like the actor and I think he has the presence and voice. (Surely better than crappy white girl next door Elektra.)
Also the name Henri Ducard sou nds familar... can't place the character though.

Ra's Al Ghul's ethnicity has never been revealed.
And Henri Ducard was a french man who trained Bruce in his detective skills.

Yeah, it's not too much of a streach for him to be Japanese. Plus I like the actor and could see it.
As for Henri Ducard, now I think I vaugely know who he is. I think I may have seen him in regular Batbooks. Was in he some of the Contagion books? I think maybe I even saw him in a cool issue of one of the animated Batman books.

ducard was in legacy and the first robin mini series if i recall rightly.. .which i dont, he wasnt in the first robin mini series... i think... i know he definately WAS in legacy though. They seemed to have changed his character a bit though so that he is now an expert martial artist rather than a manhunter, but i am definately NOT complaining about it!
and ras being japanese, not a problem, not a problem at all. maybe my expectations were lowered greatly by batman and robin but we have soooooo much to be thankful for anyway. Christian bale, michael caine, liam neeson, morgan freeman, and christopher nolan and dave goyer. Its like all our greatest dreams have come true in the best possible way! i dont think anyone cares about a teen queen in one of the lead roles (she is actually a pretty good actress though every one seems to remember her from dawson's creek only) and a change of nationality.

I liked the rumour of Dennis Quaid as Gordon better, but I guess Oldman gave a better reading...

Okay... who was smoking what when they cast this? This is the dude I wanted for RA'S AL GHUL!
Alright, the man's a good actor, I'll give him that. But, every movie i've seen him in, he's either psychotic or evil...
Well, this certainly will be interesting, to say the least, if not the most.

--Yeah, it'll be sort of bizarre seeing Oldman play the part of a good-guy. Still, I like the casting.

I think one of the things that will SUCK about this otherwise good sounding movie is that we have heard nothing about Talia. Also I thought I heard no Lazarus Pits.

Seriously man, no Talia with Ra's is like no Alfred with Batman...

looks like The Xenos was sort of correct, that Watanabe was not the real Ra's, but maybe Ubu, and just wasn't called it in the actual film.
its funny reading old posts where everyones guessing and sometimes they're correct about stuff.

....... a terrific AND different sort of take on Gordon PRE "Commissioner".
I thought he was sensational in it.
