One of Christopher Nolan's mandates for the new movie is to get rid of the rubber suit from the previous movies. So what do you think the movie costume should look like?
Personally I don't think that they should go with a straight spandex costume. I think something that looks like the costume from the comics, but with movie style boots, gloves and cowl.

I think leather would be good. It worked for Daredevil mighty fine. It pretty much is the midpoint btwn rubber and spandex. You have the protection of rubber, yet it has the mobility of spandex. So, yeah, I think leather would be perfect. And, like I said, it worked for the Daredevil, whom I believe is the Marvel Batman.

However, leather tends to be: hot, shiny, and squeaky, things not really taken into consideration for the DD movie. Not too good for hiding in shadows and creeping around. Methinks a material like spandex, but thicker would work.

I second the notion of the leather costume. I always thought DareDevils costume was perfect for the batman costume if it was black and had a cape draped over it. And really no matter what material you use for the costume it is going to have it's impracticalities. Leather is gonna be hot and slightly restrictive, but spandex is gonna tear way to easy and be way too thin. Im thinking a leather costume(all black, I still prefer all black to gray and black) in something similar to the costume Batman is wearing in the Batman/Deathblow mini-series. Something slightly military, like Solid Snakes uniform in the Metal Gear Solid series or Sam Fishers in Splinter Cell. This way it would be a little easier to explain where Bats keeps all his wonderful toys.

as long as there are no nipples I'll be happy. I don't really like the idea of batman in leather. it just doesn't sound right to me. I think a costume similar to the Batman dead end costume with the thick spandex and the rubber cowl would be cool. A leather cape might be cool.
------------------
the batsuit should have never had nipples.

I think it'll be more functional, more like a "suit" than a costume, sorta like Daredevil's. But I don't think it'll be all leather, head to toe, like the Gimp wears. I'd say leathery "armor" over cloth. Almost like a midieval knight's armor, y'know, where it covers the important areas--a chestplate, gauntlets, etc., but the joints are left more open for flexibility and breathability. If you go with a matte-finished leather, the texture contrast shouldn't be a problem.

I like the 'spanex but thicker' idea. I would like to see a material similar to the Spider-Man outfit and, at some point, they can explain that it's kevlar or has kevlar woven into it. The cape should stay leather. That's one thing the previous movies did very right. I think the best example of what the costume should be would be, as someone previously stated, the Dead End costume. Very good job on that one.

Well, I'm glad the rubber is out. Not sure on spandex or the material used in dead end.
O rather like what Thom was tlaking about. He is the Dark Knight after all.
Also, I want armor and kevlar and protective material under this thing. Well it doesn't have to be real in the real costume, but in the story he should have armor.
I posted a long thing about his armor and costume a while ago here: http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/Forum5/HTML/000220.html Feel free to read that and continue on in this thread.

What I DON'T want to see in a Bat-suit is:
-nipples
-zips
-buttons
-stitches
-buttonholes
-wrinkles
-"bat-ears" a la Animated (never liked them)
If it's plain black, it's OK, but if it's going to be gray-black, then he SHOULD wear "outside underwear". Pockets ONLY in the utility belt. And the bat in his chest MUST be on a yellow oval.

no way!
did you see the way that keaton moved in the movie. It was like he was stuck in glue. No quick movements and he could hardly move any of his limbs more than a couple of degrees in any direction. NO WAY!
we need a good costume that looks practical rather than the X men 1/ batman films costumes which look about as practical as cement!

Not a chance in hell should the 'Bat' logo be on a yellow oval, it should be open like it is in the comics, or at the most on a dark oval like in the last movie. I really like the design from Batman/Deathblow where the bat was spread across his chest and kindof used as an anchor for the cape, and the sides of the cape were actually attached to his shoulders. His boots kindof looked like motorcycle boots, or army boots but with a shin guard over them. The same type design for his gloves. Leather gloves with a heavy gauntlet over them. I agree about if the costume is gray and black he needs to have the black cod-piece, it just balances the colors out.

in all practicality, it would have to be black..
In JLA #2 'The Day The Earth Stood Still', Batman sez "I don't HAVE superspeed, i can't risk wearing a bright costume that makes me a TARGET and i can't afford to TRUST poorly-trained people who DO."
Hope that puts the crappy yellow debate to rest..

"Crappy"? Do you think that a simple touch of color in Bat's suit makes the whole thing "crappy"? Do you think that just a yellow oval could ruin a movie? And now, after all these years, Batman starts to weep because he doesn't have superpowers? "Oh, poor me, I have to dodge bullets, and my back was broken by Bane, because I don't have superpowers! I have nothing but a yellow oval in my chest!" C'mon, man...

Anybody see the shots from Batman: Dead End in this months Wizard? if you havent, see it out, because that is how the Batman should look. Not spandex, but simple tight fitting cloth, with leather gloves and boots. Although, My own little spin would be some body armor inside the shirt, instead of fake muscle, just a flat form fitting bullet poof vest, simple, effective, and add some plates for pecs and the effect is an inhuman torso.

The muscle on the guy in Dead End was very real, man.
I think that having Batman in tights but thicker(a la Spider-Man) and saying it's some sophisticated, flexible form of kevlar is good enough. I think it would even be cool to show him getting shot at some part, after which he lives but is in great pain with bruises where he was shot.
Word, i saw the shorfilm today, well definatley not the best bat plot, nor bat diolouge, however this should be seen by christopher nolans costume desighners, not to mention the director himself. The film is what it sets out to be, a fantastic physcial relaization of the Batman.

I think the costume should look like the Hush comics costume and Batman: Dead End. With the Grey and Black No yellow oval.
And I think the utility belt looks like it can actullat hold some like with the little pockets and powches. It should be a yellowsih tanish belt.
I Don't think they should use Keatons costum, whenerv he wanted to move his head he would have to move his hole body because the cowl was attached to his shoulders. That never looked good. It's good to make his head look solid like they did with Keaton but not thaty much. THey shoud do the same thing they did in Dead End, that cowl looked good.
I liked the style of Daredevils boots how he would put those straps across the boot. Thats how they should be.
And the the ears or spikes or whatever they are supossed to be called on his head, you know what I mean, they should be long skinny and pointy like in Batman Forever. They should be shorterand whider like how they were in Hush.
THe Perfect costume.

I just thought of something. I don't know if anyone else suggested this, but give the mask lenses. It was done in daredevil and gave him an even more eerie mood. I say give the Bat white lenses. It would look cool.

That's another thing that was so cool about Dead End. Batman wore white contact lenses. It gave the look of the comic Batman and he could still show expression through his eyes. It worked very well in my opinion. Another thing that was great was that the Dead End mask didn't have big eye-holes with makeup underneath. Well it could have. That's what I'm saying. One couldn't really tell where the mask ended and the eyes began. It was pretty cool.

I like the way they incorporated the bat symbol into the cape and I like the more utilitarian look of the belt (no pun intended), gloves, and boots.

Hi all, new to the board.
Bats Is by far the best(when written properly) comic character out there.
Now all this stuff about the Batmobile:
If Gotham is a sprawling "Metropolis" like say any big city how is it that a car of any type would be practical?
If there is heavy traffic or construction he would be sitting there like everyone else, & probably getting flipped off & pissed off too.
The solution: http://www.moller.com/skycar/m400/
This would be perfect!
I used to work in a comic shop about 10 years ago & when I 1st heard about this I would have debates with the customers about how practical this would be instead of the car.
& no this doesn't eleminate the need of the Batjet.

Oh & for the record, I thought all of The Bat-Flicks sucked!
For everything cool in any of them there was so much Bad that I found myself wanting to make a copy of all the cool stuff from all four movies & then burning the originals to cleans myself.
the costumes in all looked kinda cool, until he had to fight, or get out run by Mr.Freeze in some bulky platic armor.
I thought the one that would RULE! was Batman:Forever, due to the cast, but good ol'Joel had different designs.
