View Full Version : Why are we fascinated with horror?

Is it the fear?
Is it seeing in living bloody color the full realization of that fear coming
to full life?
Is it the "roller coaster" feeling where you feel dread, horror or terror,
but know at the end of it, you come out okay?
Do we learn anything from seeing just how far a situation can go?
And if that horror situation goes too far, does it desensitize us?
Or simply reveal the kind of potential horror can take?
Your thoughts.

Personally, I enjoy the adrenaline rush you get from being scared.

Me, I like it for some of the reasons I like science fiction and fantasy, the mystery and the unknown. I also like characters facing up to something dark and dangerous. They may or may not succeed, but I admire a never say die spirit. Even though said spirit just may not be enough.

For me? It's the fear & the feelings that come from that fear. I usually go for horror/ thrillers (Silence of the Lambs, Underworld, SAW etc...) that have a intellectual aspect to them. I love nothing more then to be mentally challenged WHILE I'm having the sh**t scared out of me.

Mostly it's the boobies. And the gore. Mostly the boobies, though.

The chances of boobies in horror movies has dropped dramatically since it became fashionable to release PG-13 horror films. Damn kids. I want the sex = death quotient back in my horror dammit.
Oh, uh, wait, it's the, uh, intellectual study of rational minds suddenly thrust into an irrational situation and the observance of our culture skewed through a twisted lens that attracts me to horror films. Yeah, that's it.

Enough with the Sex Scene the other Reason Final Destination 3 Really sucks is the Nudity Come on Now!. :romy:
In Poltergeist was there any nudity No
the Excorcist some WORDS but No Scenes well the whole thing about the Crucifix ok that was a bit uncalled for but still no Boobies.
Or other sexual body shots so anywho silent hill is the only none Boobies Movie that I consider a Good movie.
Horror movies are missing the whole concept of the word Horror. NOT PORNO

It's the rush, and the gore and the potential for nudity... :D
Everybody loves a good rush, but it has been a long time since I've been scarred during a movie. I've squirmed a little (Saw 2 (first 5 minutes) and Hostel) but movies don't scare me anymore. I also enjoy going to see alot of gore, its fun at the movies. Now we come to the nudity, all I'll say on this is HOSTEL is my favorite horror movie...
BTW: I consider a horror movie to be a R-rated film none of this PG-13 crap, I enjoyed the grudge the one problem it was to light and it did that on purpose to rake in more money which it probably did.
