Greetings, true believers-
( And if those words < fr. Stan the Man> thrill you as they thrill me, you're in the right place.)
Let's face it: we know that SP-2 is gonna kick mucho ass; it seems inevitable! I mean, you've got Spidey's greatest villian rendered in future-of-the-art fx tech, high aerial derring do, a dramatic story, awesome Spidey stunts & JJJ-I mean, what more could you ask for? . The trailers, which I've been trying to avoid ( spoiler ahead!), but couldn't ( c'mon, I had to look) are the greatest that I have ever seen! Now that we've gotten the all-important origin story under our belts w/ ultimate flying colors, & seen our beloved webhead doing things @ the end of the movie that would turn a certain Kal-el green w/ envy, we are poised to take it to the next level, players. So let's show the love, folks.
Calling all ,Webheads, Spiderfans, True Believers & even skeptics: Let's put SP-2 over the top on opening weekend!
Come "Webswinger Wed.",June 30,all hands on deck; let's all commit to seeing SP-2 on opening day, & then @ least two or preferably three times by 6P Sun. July 4, the cutoff for weekend box office figures. This repeat viewing is very important, not only in driving box office, but also in building enthusiasm, & esp. the intangible but all-important "buzz". Even if you hate it the first time ( yeah, right!), try to see it again anyway & give it a second shot. If you really hate it ( don't ever talk to me again http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif ) , buy a ticket & keep it for a souvenir. All right, maybe that last one is pushing it a little, but it would be kind of cool to bring back the tradition of repeat viewing on the big screen in a big way this summer. So, opening day is key.
I saw another post which suggested shooting of Silly String @ the end of the movie to simulate webbing. This is a cute idea, but prob. not a good one due to the nightmare it would create for the cleaning crew. So instead, ( & more meaningfully), I'm proposing that @ the end of the film, we give it a "Standing O". This is another reason to see it on Webswinger Wed.: the audience will be fellow Spiderfans, who will likely only need a nudge fr. a few brave fellow fans to escalate fr. polite applause to a full-on Standing O. But, @ the very least, let's applaud long & loud at the end.
And let's not wait for the end, either; if you see something cool ,something " So Spidey", don't hold back- let's make them clap, people. I've already seen five or six moments like that in the trailer, so come July 1, my hands will no doubt be mucho sore. When I saw Sp-1 on opening day two years ago, during the scene where Spidey is dodging the pumpkin bombs in the burning building, the audience burst into loud applause. It was an electric moment. Applause @ the end of movies used to be very common; it was a kind of social courtesy among audiences, a way of saying " thanks for watching this w/ me". Even if we can't bring the tradition back totally, let's make sure we show the love, friends , for our friendly, neighborhood ... well, you know the rest.
What's @ stake here is no less than the continued success of the Marvel Universe. Okay, maybe I'm exagerating a little, but industry watchers pundits , & crits will be scrutinizing the weekend returns w/ ten fine-toothed combs looking for any indication that the bloom is off of the Superhero rose. If the weekend box office shows any slack in any way, you just know they'll start bringing up the "disappointing" take fr. Punisher, DD,( which I just frickin' loved!), Hulk, yada, yada, yada. This is likely for two reasons: 1.) Crits don't like these kinds of movies to begin w/, preferring a mixture of a Merchant Ivory flick & a Q.T.- inflected hybrid crime/character/improv indie street drama & 2.) W/ all the ink & airtime that they've ( legitimately) expended hyping it, if it slacks- even a little- they'll feel foolish & overcompensate by knocking & nitpicking & scare off future moviegoers. So it's in all our best interests that the film have an enormous- an unprecedented- opening weekend.
So, that's the plan, folks. We blitz opening day, Webslinger Wednesday, June 30. We go back on Spidey Friday, July 2. This date is key, bec. the official box ofice meter for the weekend starts ticking on Friday, so we want a huge spike in tix on Friday. " Stan Lee Saturday", July 3rd should be insane: let's make this couples night ( this movie, like the last one bodes well to be genuinely romantic), & those of us going stag can sit this one out. Finally, big push on July 4: Super-Hero Sunday: See America's greatest Super-Hero on America's birthday ( 'cause if it ain't Supes, it's certainly Spidey).
In closing, let's make this a cultural phenomenon of the magnitude of the Star Warriors going to see the latest fr. Lucas. Let's jam the multiplexes ( & buy tons o' snacks, 'cause that's where they make their money), & make local TV stations across the country send out newsvans to document the largest crowds ever seen in the entire history of motion picture exhibition. Let's make sure that when Extra/ET et al. do their stories they have to start off saying : " We don't believe it- these numbers are totally unprecedented ...". Pass this on to your friends & neighbors- hell, even total strangers, Ask them if they're going opening day, & explain its importance. Try to get them to commit to seeing it twice. Try to see it yourself twice or even three times. Pass this on!
'Cause in your heart, you know Spidey deserves it. And so does Stan.

That guy is either telling us to kill in his name, or just make sure that we see Spidey 2 on opening day and throughout it's opening weekend.

Robbo! Where do you get off criticizing the first post as being unreadable, when the first sentence of your post makes absolutely no sense? The nerve!

What you meant to say is, "I'll be SEEING IT in about one hour."

I think there are folks out there like me who've felt a little trepidation about how good Spidey 2 is going to be. There doesn't seem to be the same amount of anticipation in the general public as there was for the first Spider-Man or for X2. Honestly, I wasn't planning on seeing the film based on the commercials or the trailers. They seem to show so much of the movie without really showing anything.

However, I have changed my mind based on Ebert & Roeper's glowing reviews of Spider-Man 2. Particularly Ebert's review, because I had most of the same complaints that he had about the first Spidey film. If he feels that Spidey 2 is such a great movie then that eases alot of my doubts. There is still a lingering thought in my mind though about how both of these critics gave great reviews for Daredevil and Hulk, and many fans were disappointed with both.

Oh well, at least if I go in with low expectations and the film turns out to be great then I'll be thrilled, and if its not then at least I'm prepared.

I thought you meant you'd be laughing for the next hour...I like that better.
