Thanks, Mike. I'm really really psyched. (I'm home sick again today, but I'm really really psyched... blasted sinus infections...)
Hey, that's a good question for Fish. Strangefish? What's new? (Read my "Invisibles" thread yet? Care to join the fun?)

So, anyone else ever go 'goth clubbing'?
Also, Spider, sorry to hear that. It's going to be almost a year since my grandmother passed away. And speaking of 'goth', maybe that's one of the reasons I kinda went more goth. Though I was kinda getting in a depressive funk before that. Eh, we all deal with it in our way. Hope you find a good way to deal.

I went to a Matrix party at a club in SF. Alas, it was thrown by a Berkeley frat, so its was a tad more Greek than Goth.

I did take a lot of college, but not as much as anyone might think. It really helped my cause that I know the manager of the department from a previous position, and she, in turn, knows that I do good work, I'm a dedicated employee, and that I will bust my ass to make things better for the entire team. Beyond that, the only real big time skill necessary for this job are a basic to moderate knowledge of UNIX, and the ability to take notes and answer questions when necessary. All the rest is on the job training.
Yeah, there are a lot of companies and departments where you HAVE to have years of college and huge degrees to do it, but thankfully, a lot of places are looking at a person's actual qualifications with more weight than they do the letters after their name. This is a good thing.
I'll see about taking pictures of my workplace if I can, assuming I get the job (I take nothing for granted), and showing you guys what it's like there. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/biggrin.gif

Zac, as someone who was Goth when it was still mostly Mod (and a bit of Punk), let me spell it out for you:
It's really true, chicks dig pale scrawny guys. Not all of them. Certainly not even MOST of them. But they do. (Ladies, don't deny it, now)
I don't know what causes it. I really don't. But, when I was five foot eight and weight 145 pounds and dressed in black and listened to nothing but Boingo and Depeche Mode and Morrisey (Mod, remember)... well, I still ended up single, because I was also a first rate GEEK, but hey, it was fun! http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

Wimp. You can't call yourself a man unless you've worn black lambskin pants, a poet's shirt, and had hair longer than your girlfriends (all of which I've done). http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif
I have an affinity for period garb, myself (as a few folks here can attest to), and I tell you: Mens fashions peaked in the Renaissance and European Gothic periods (not the new Goth fashion, per se). If I ever become a fashion designer, as some people think I should, I'm bringing Doublets back. No man can wear one and NOT look good.

Most of that sounds unconfortable, and unless they make baggy lambskin pants I don't even want to think about that. I don't want any lamb parts rubbing up against my package. And if I grow my hair too long it starts to look like Justin from last year's American Idol. That's not going to happen if I can help it.

I went to a rock club which had one Goth room, I was surprised how Goths ‘dance’ they just walk up and down the dance floor with their heads down like they’re seriously demented. I just had a look around and left, I didn’t really fit in…

That's weird. I know lots of SF and Seattle Goths, and they're all OVER the dance floor. They're FUN to dance with, because they don't just do the "white boy shuffle" or the "dance floor hump," you know?
Huh.

I hear that!
Still, I try and stay one step ahead of the crowd, or so far behind that I'm "cool".
The trick is to get the imported stuff, like I've got a kickass Spidey movie t-shirt that was never out over here.
But you're right- people suddenly remember Transformers and ThunderCats because they're told its cool again, and the only reason it's cool again is cos of those of us who tried to make it cool again!!!

PK: I think it's predominatly a Uk thing http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif Damn Neds! But I was the one that started the thundercats thing, I got the t-shirt when I went to NY, and they weren't selling them here. But then I guess folks saw me wearing it and thought they'd be as cool as me if they had one http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif And I've earned it, I'm a big thundercats fan and unlike most of these wannabes was born in the 80's!
So I think I've decided where I want to work. http://www.rhythm.com

for those folks who've been attacked by style-bitters (i soooo invented the whole "alarm clock on a necklace" thing http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif ), take it as a compliment - that somebody would find your appearance/style intriguing enough to want to emulate it (that, or they want to assume your identity and dispose of you).

You called down the thunder! Well now you got it! :P Just kidding. But seriously. I did start the thundercats thing. I promise you. The 80's re-emergence was beginninig slowly as people realised that things today sucked, and as Peer to Peer took off. however commercially this was limited, and the only products were toys which most people considered themselves too cool to buy.
At the same time the ironic fad in fashion was wearing thin and t-shirt designers were looking for something to replace it with. I went to the states and got my T-cats top. Then people started seeing it, wanting them, others got hold of them, mail order or made them. Then markets started making/selling now stores. Seriously, that's how it happened. When I first got I was asked about 4 or 5 times everyday where I got my shirt from and if I'd sell it once a week. I'd walk in and people would physically get up and turn to look at my t-shirt. I kid u not.

I feel shitty, oh so shitty....blah blah blah I forgot the rest.
I went through a period at 12 years old when I wore nothing but solid black outfits for a year. I even died my hair black that year. Let me tell you- I am SO scarey with black hair. It just makes me look like a ghost. It was also during this period that I developed a scowl that can make plants wilt and grown men curl up in the fetal position.
Black is still my favorite color for dressing up, but isn't it every womans? They don't call it the 'little black dress' for nothing.
I know what you guys mean about the 80's revival stuff but just be happy that means you finally have access to more of it. I'm so happy about the Strawberry Shortcake resurgence, you have no idea. I can get high on that smell! My crack is finally back.
I'm delirious and I need to lie down~
If I still feel this bad tomorrow I think I will miss yoga class, argh.
