Wacom Tablet experiences

Hi all, I'm thinking of getting this bad boy. Do you guys have any experiences in using one of these? Whats the learning curve like and how responsive is it?

Oh yeah, how about Windows XP driver issues?

nothing but good experiences. it gets along well with photoshop. the learning curve is about a day or two, just getting used to it. a buddy of mine is a really talented illustrator, within a few hours he had it down. response is sweet, especially in airbrushing.

as far as drivers and xp, can't help you there...i use 2000. you can try out this link http://www.wacom.com/productsupport/index.cfm

you should find your answers there...or one of the artists that have xp will give you a heads up.

I bought one and i must say the ersults were amazing, since it's much more easier to draw... i never really drawn anything with the mouse...

Nevertheless i don't use it now... only because i have 5 usb "thingies" and i only have 2 usv sockets... must buy new box...

Oh, and the drivers for xp were not a problem! It ran sweet!

Maybe I'm experiencing Deja Vu but didn't we do two threads like this before?

Hurm. Anywho, most of my pics have been done using nothing but a Wacom Tablet and Photoshop. In fact, the pic I'm submitting today for the Alternate Futures Theme Day(which I should be working on right now) was done entirely in Photoshop using my tablet.

I make most of my pictures in Paint (which explains why I've only uploaded three). Everything else is just too complicated for me.

Good deal. I guess I'll pick up a Graphire2 4x5. The Intuos2 6x8 are like $300!

trust me though...that $300 dollars is well spent. you have to think about how you draw, paint, etc.

my buddy has the 12x18 tablet and he does great stuff with it. he had trouble with the smaller sizes, because he sketches in his lap and stuff. the bigger tablet let him prop the tablest up on his legs and such and draw like he usually does.

he is a beautiful artist and the transfer from paper to tablet for him is truly impressive. his 2d work is really good, take a look at his illustrated work and his color work with the tablet at http://members.cox.net/ruijsenaars/artpage1.htm

i know he does the color work in photoshop 7 and he uses the tablet when he does it.

i'm not saying go out and buy the $600 tablet, just be aware of how you sit when you work and get a tablet that is comfortable with how you sit and work, lay and work...etc.

they are characters for a storyline he has in his head. whether he goes 2d with it or takes it into 3d...who knows. i'll pass along your compliment...i'll see if he'll submit them as original concept work and see what everyone else thinks.

hey guys, just remember that it's not the tool that makes the art. I've got the good ol' Graphire(not the "2"). I does the job. I figure if you like to do big motions, then the larger tablets will suit you. Now if you are strapped for cash, the Graphire2 will get the job done...10 times over.
