Permissible base images

Well, not really permissible, but appropriate - I'm just wondering if there's still an unwritten rule against using images of Ground Zero in non-tribute pictures - not for the purpose of showing a comic character at the scene, but (hopefully in a disguised form without the WTC actually showing) for general images of destruction.

What do people think? Should we/ can we use them?

Despite how pics of ground zero may be really good for manips, personally I feel that using a pic from that would be almost benefiting from the event. However, one could say the same about any wreckage site really, so I think it's up to whoever is making the manip. I wouldn't shun anyone for using Ground Zero as a base pic, but I don't intend to use them for any of my manips any time soon.

I think so long as you're not using the fact that it was a terrorist attack it's fine. Use the picture, not the event. If that makes sense.

Yeah, it's not really meant to be Ground Zero as such, but doubling for Los Angeles (although how convincing that would be is another matter). I just needed something which looks like building rubble and mass destruction, but nothing to do with terrorists. Just a plain old regular battle between 2 characters. The only things which might actually look like Ground Zero (and might be difficult to disguise) are the buildings in the background, and the base of the WTC. But there aren't any victims or any other panic stricken people in the picture - just simply rubble.

I suppose one of the questions is: would such a picture with Ground Zero be even allowed into the gallery in the first place before I embark on anything?
