Ok, it is getting a little embarrassing that I made the front page again, but I'm not complaining Essex. I'm just glad the Trigun poster made it because that's my favorite today. Time for UIR
Dazzler
by reptile625
This sexy as hell without looking like porn. Great job on the costume and the effects.
X3: Logan - Mutant Vs Metal
by localhero
The claws don’t seem to match the picture. They seem to stand out a little too much, like they were added on. I applaud the idea though.
Devilish Dish
by AngelArchiver
Hot stuff! Another great drawing from you, but once again I ask to see a bigger picture.
Hulk Ink Expiriment
by Solid Snake
Agh! You suck! Damn you, I could never draw that good when I was your age! Whatever you do, don’t ever stop drawing.
red hot rogue
by stillhbk
I like the costume and glasses but the base pic is a little on the skanky side.
Death sketch
by Lady D
Cute drawing Lady D. I like how you textured her clothing. Sorry to hear that you are having monitor problems but you did a nice job anyway.
LOGAN
by LAUGHING BEAR
Not bad for a first timer. The shoulder pads don’t match the clarity of the bodybuilder arms, nor does the face and hair. Those are the only glaring problems that I can see, otherwise very nice attempt for a photo manipulation.
X3: Phoenix Rising
by jazzler46
Nice, but you didn’t mention where you got the background from.
Busted!
by Miss Jellybrain
Whoa. Nice overall picture. I like the cop in the foreground because it brings everything into focus, however, Catwoman is a bit of a mess. Her left arm looks backwards and she’s towering over the cop. I do like the way you did the material of her costume. It looks very natural. Oh yeah, where’s the background from?
Trigun
by Weapon X
This made my jaw drop for a second. Incredible poster. If this didn’t make the front page I would have started a mutiny against Essex.
Fathom
by dperceful
I like this a lot. Beautiful picture, nice background and a great base image.
Green Lantern
by dreadful1
Tom Cruise attached to a basic male model’s body. Hmmm, there’s a joke in that statement somewhere but I’ll let it go. Its not a bad pic at all but it is a little “boring”. Well, he at least looks like he’s bored. I think he should be casting some shadow on the moon surface since you can see shadows already there. Very nice choice of space pictures. Where are they from?
Unbreakable: The Comic
by Arnheim
Hey I love this movie too! And if I thought that it was acceptable to submit an image based on it I would have done one month’s ago. Not bad.
BatMania!
by joker21
Why?
Escape From Snake Plissken
by headcasejones
Cool. ‘Nuff said.

Have looked at it at work, and other than looking a bit lighter, the claws still look okay to me, I guess though that the thin outline around each one probably detracts from the image as a whole... ach well, it was just a quickie anyways...

Hiya D.K.Hood --
I'd really like to post larger pics, but how does one do that? When I try to make the pics larger (even at 72 ppi), I go over the KB limit for the site.
How does everyone else get those nice big pics?
I'm especially frustrated with the LongBow Angel pic -- on my screen, it appeared 3 times the size it appeared here.
I'm not too great with computers, as you may have noticed :-p

Hi http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif
The specifics depend on your graphics program, but generally from the save or export menu item, there are usually options dependant on file type.
For example in Paintshop pro under the file menu there are option to export JPEG and GIF.
Taking the JPEG option allows you to alter the compression ration - the higher the compression the more detail is lost, but the smaller the resulting file. I usually use this option (although I occasionally have to shrink the picture in addition to altering the compression). This option is usually better suited to photorealistic pictures with a high number of colours.
Taking the GIF route allows you to set picture transparencies, number of colours, gif format all in an effort to optimise the reulting image. The option that I have noticed having the most effect on GIF file size is colours - reducing the colors decreases the file size dramatically. GIFs are best suited to images with 256 colours or less, so it is a great choice for pencil sketches or inked drawings.
Hope this helps

oh.. and I have hopefully solved my dodgy monitor problem...
took an hour off work this afternoon and went out and purchased myself a nice shiny 17" TFT ... and the difference is unbelievable .. everything just looks that much brighter and sharper.. like when you first get specs (any spectacle wearers will agree with me on the amazing clarity you experience when you first put them on, I am sure) ... I would have liked a 19" but I don't think my bank manager would have thought it a prudent use of finances http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif

To AngelArchiver,
If you have a scanner like the one I have then it has 3 settings that you can scan with. Color, Grayscale and Black and White. You should only be scanning images that are Black and White(if inked) or Grayscale(pencil). Also, you should choose a low dpi to scan with. Whatever you scan may still be over 90k but you shouldn't have to reduce the size that much.

Thanks, D.K.Hood, I'll try to scan the pics in differently next time. I usually use the Black & White photo scan, which defaults to 200dpi. I'll see about changing it next time http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

uir
first off, what a stellar update....this is one of the best updates i've seen in forever (and i'm not saying that because one of my pics is in it). really great stuff all around, for the most part. with that said, here's my uir.
localhero: is that just a bevel and emboss, or is that the actual texture? anyway...i thought the whole bone claw idea for wolvie was lame, but then again i'm not a writer and it was an interesting arc for the character. maybe if the claws were more bumpy, curved, and thinner then they would do it for me. nice touch with the eyes (it's thosse little details in your work that really make it stand out). did you have to clean up the wallpaper at all, or was it already fairly cleaned up?
batmania: you know what i'm just going to say it. these are getting old. it was the same with cap bolivia, the difference was cap did decent work, but it was the same stuff everyday. not even an attempt at a vignette, masking, blending....just solid lines.
pause for brief editorial.....and i'm going to say this too, it's really a shame when there are many artists here who spend time on their works and then you have someone who spends a full 2 minutes on a piece and posts it. and you know what, on a update like today you can tell who took the time and who didn't.....we now join your regular schedule uir in progress
devilish dish: still knda small, but this is really nice looking stuff. any chance we might see some color work in the future?
x3: very similar to your phoenix entity submission. i liked the subltlty of the eyes on your previous submission. i think for the extra mile here maybe make a flaming phoenix rising over the horizon, or maybe just flames. something for us comic book guys to geek over.
escape from snake plissken: nice looking. no real complaints. maybe just for show have some of the bacckground lighting appear on his face in lighter hues. excellent work.
gl: other than being a touch painty this is nice looking. his left forearm seems a touch skinnier than his right (it's could jsut be the pose playing tricks). i would just suggest more detailed shading and lighting to make the costume pop and get rid of the painty fell. also i would go with a more steady glow around the body and a green glow on the ring just to distinguish it. still very nice work for a first submission...can't wait to see more.
unbreakable: nice concept. i think the character stands out too much though. this is just a suggestion and a different take on your idea. have the broken glass, but have the character behind it, he would be very darkened because he is behind the wet glass, very subtle. that way your text is is front of him and the title is clear to the viewer. i agree, this is one of the top, if not the best portrayal of a hero.
busted: nice frankensteining. i have no complaints. nice pose, maybe brighten her up a tad just because of the light in the background. excellent work.
trigun: wow! this could be a poster, without a doubt. favorite pic of the day...are you going for bulletholes on the text...if so try http://www.spyroteknik.com/ for a quick and simple bullethole. i really love the colors of this piece...just wonderful.
death sketch: cool. i love the little sparkles on the blouse. her boots seem a little bulky...all in all though a different and pleasant submission.
alice: scratch, scratch, scratch! damn! very truthful to the characters, I heard they might do a movie on it. top notch work, no complaints. maybe give it a grunge, old grainy film texture, but keep the colors.
hulk: i liked the wolverine look better. i think because it was just very rough and dirty. i think hulk could pull that style off. i can already see it in my head, he would look very awesome using the same style you used with wolverine. the roughness would work well with the overall anger theme.
red hot rogue: still can see some nipple or whatever she had on...i would guess nothing that's why i'm saying nipple. really you do very good work, i have no complaints. the white streak is a little rough, but it's a hard thing to do. also, consider down the road to start adding lights and shadows to the costumes, this would get rid of the painty feel.
logan: it's a solid first submission. one thing, turn off your caps lock. arms seem big compared to the hands. nice work...consider a background next time, even just some text.
dazzler: wow! this is really great looking. i don't think this is too plasticy at all, it really works for the character. nice job of matching up the reflection on the background objects. remember, dodge and burn tools are your friends...very impressive lighting.....just got back from your site....nice work. loved your displacement map tutorial, very informative.

It is an actual bone texture. The reason the bone claws seem so..chunky..i had to cover the original metal ones...the shading was done using the pen and a lot of smudge.
The Wallpaper was in pretty good nick anyway as i usually download the largest one I can find.
Thanks for the comments, I might try this idea again at a later date.

Yes, this has been one of the best updates in recent memory. It's always exciting when a random assembly of images ends up being so wonderful! Choosing only two front page pics was excrutiating http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/eek.gif
I couldn't go without reviewing!
Wolverine: I think the reason the claws seem tacked-on is because the same lighting on Wolvie hasn't been applied to the claws, especially that strong blue light coming in from his right. I think that would really help. Furthermore, that one lone blood drop doesn't seem to make much sense. Why only on that claw, and why isn't it spread across his knucles? Still, it's a nice image, HOWEVER, I'd really like it if you did a more full image of Logan and his blone claws, perhaps not using such a common image.
Batmania: These are some of the better "toss an actor under the movie mask" images, but that's still all they are...
Devilish Dish: Aside from the extremely large hands and fingers on both people, this is a great drawing and is nicely inked. I hope you find a way to submit larger images.
Phoenix Rising: As a poster, it's nice and some of your best work. As a poster designed to get people to see the movie, however, it's not so successful. The colours used do not evoke a feeling of a sci-fi/action drama and certainly not an X-Film. The lettering is difficult to read in some areas and font colours that contrast more with the background would be best.
Snake: Great drawing, fantastic shadows. My only complaint would be that I wish the background colour faded better with the coarse outline of his hair.
Green Lantern: Pretty basic. Try playing with shadows on his body that make him look more 3-dimensional in comparison to his head; the costume looks flat. I like the unique look to the glow aorund his body, but it would be even better with some added light to it to make it look less opaque.
Unbreakable: The Comic: Pretty cool, but what exactly makes this "the comic?" It certainly isn't shaped like one and it doesn't look like a comic style drawing or anything...
Fathom: Very well done! Excellent colours and the water effect on her body was done exceptionally. I really like how exactly where the water meets the sky is left fairly ambiguous. Finally, the lettering is different and effective; not at all obtrusive as it can often be in images like this. I am bothered, however, by the very visible airbrushing over her hair. Around the rest of her body it looks more subtle, but there, it looks less like light and more like a mere airbrush. Still, amazing work.
Catwoman: Not your best work, but you always do solid image so this is no exception. The costuming is especially good. The anatomy, however, is awkward. Her head seems fairly large and her legs in particular are very small. Catwoman is lithe and sexy, but she can also kick anybody's ass and we need to believe it! Put some meat on those bones! http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/tongue.gif Gotta say again though, excellent costuming.
Trigun: Great design, but I'm a little turned off by the very bright colours. I think that if a movie-goer saw this poster he may think it is a cartoon or 3D movie because the colours are all so overwhelmingly bright. The design, however, is very nice and I like the consistent lighting.
Death: Nice drawing. Most of the textures look cool, especially the one on her shirt. The wood texture, though, looks more like I'm being hypnotized than looking at wood grain. Overall very nice, however!
Alice: Just beautiful! Some of your best work to date for sure. Nearly everything is perfect. My only complaint is the writing. It looks like it's supposed to be blood perhaps, but looks clearly like an airbrush, especially with the circular corners on the 'e'. I think it'd look much better messier! Still, i love it. Mt fav today.
Hulk: Not your best work. The anatomy doesn't seem as strong as I would usually expect. The face has a lot of problems, most notably the eyes being far too close together (and not evenly, at that). My least favourite part of your drawings are those random words you seem to love including...they're real mood killers. Still, this is a solid drawing. Nice work.
Rogue: I look at the costume and it's done very well, then I look at the hair and I wonder just what went wrong! The hair just did not work out. All the detail was lost and it looks awful...after seeing the costume, I'd expect more. Still, I like it and I look forward to seeing more.
Wolverine: Interesting...this is an odd one. I think I'd like it MUCH more if the arms matched the tone of the rest of the image (slightly real, but actually not). The way it is makes it look inconsistent. Don't get me wrong, I still like it, though. It's well done.
Dazzler: I think the shinny-ness suits Dazz! Plus, it was pulled off nicely. A costume this tight could use some well-placed folds, though. Overall I really like the image and I think it could be a nice promo poster for an upcoming gig of hers or something.
Well that's it. I hope more people come out to UIR other than the few who already graciously have. This update deserves as many as it can get!

it's one of those little things i missed. it didn't really occur to me until you pointed it out. the more i look at it, i can also see how it kind of clouds her forhead a touch. just for you essex, this is one of my images using my own art school submissions. just with a little playing around with the layer modes it gave her an etheral glow that turned out suprisingly well. thanks again for the critique and all comments were welcome.

I have Devilish Dish colorized, but not by me. I don't know how to work the Photoshop software -- it's all Greek to me, can't figure it out at all (layers and channels and a gazillion buttons and stuff -- yeesh!).
I don't think the site will allow a color post not done by the artist.

X3: Logan - Mutant Vs Metal by localhero Pretty nice, I don't see anything wong with the claws. Maybe they could be more curved with softer edges but they look good enough as they are.
BatMania! by joker21
Hey, Christian Bale! I just had a dream about him last night. But we don't wanna go there... no. This is a nice cut-a-face-behind-batman-cowl piece, but not very ambitious. Try some costuming. Oh yeah, and Kevin Conroy's the man.
Devilish Dish by AngelArchiver
Well, he's hot. The girl doesn't look too bad either. A great drawing, like your other stuff too. The concepts look really interesting.
X3: Phoenix Rising by jazzler46
Nice layout but the text bothers me somehow. Blend it to the background a bit.
Escape From Snake Plissken by headcasejones Bah, I don't like that guy... But the painting is really cool. I like the contrast between the guy and the background. I think it would be more interesting, however, if you'd shaded his face with some colour so he wouldn't be all that black an' white.
Green Lantern by dreadful1
Nice, no real complaints. Cool costume but needs some highlights. I like the glow, but it isn't effecting the background. He doesn't cast a shadow either.
Unbreakable: The Comic by Arnheim
I haven't seen the movie so it's hard to comment this pic, but it looks cool.
Fathom by dperceful
Wow. I'd say it's your best pic so far. The colours give it a kind of magical feel and the transparency effect is really cool. Great job.
Trigun by Weapon X
'No anime is safe', how about doing something with Gally then? I don't know anyhting about Trigun, but this poster is awesome! The 'wanted' text, the gun-wielding guy and the other fellers, and how it all blends together nicely. Great.
Death sketch by Lady D
Cute. I haven't seen that many endless drawings, this is really nice. Maybe add some shading to her skin.
American McGee's Alice by D.K.Hood8
Oh you did them justice all right. And how! This rocks. She looks like she's going to butcher the cat any minute now, which feels quite appropriate. One thing though, The background is just black with no light source, but the characters appear well lit.
Hulk Ink Expiriment by Solid Snake
Coool. But I'd like to see him actually smashing and bashing something. Like Captain America. Yeah. Hulk smash puny Captain America.
red hot rogue by stillhbk
Great costume. The highlights are a bit bright though. But seriously, I can't think of any material that would make her boobs look like that.
LOGAN by LAUGHING BEAR
Another one with the bone claws? This is very nice. But his fists look tiny!
Dazzler by reptile625
Wow, really nice. The lighting fx rock! The costume is really great, but I think it looks more like shiny porcelain than rubber. Smoothing the highlights just a bit would make it more plastic-like.

Gosh damn, what a great update. Plus this latest one is great too. Hope I ahve time to UIR.
I will say one thing, I printed out the Trigum pick I liked it so much. Though the high quality one isn't as high quality as the Eva one I als printed out. Also, I just gotta say the casting for it is perfect. Dunno if I wanna make him too Irish, but Farrel would be GREAT as Wolfwood. I also really like Bloom for Vash, though even I got that from someone else on the boards.
