Ed and I were conversing over in the HYPE thread over artist own choice of their best and worst submission to the gallery.

Our own conclusions were:

================================
Localhero:
Least Favourite: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=9794&f_ssn=
I honestly don't know where my head was at even submitting this.... *shudders and turns to better things*
Current Favourite: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=11917&f_ssn= I think this is my most technically sound submission to date.

At first glance, my own best and worst are probably my debut Superman for worst and Secret Wars Collaboration for best. But "Moss as Supes" was not meant to be a serious work, and it turned out pretty good for the 20 minutes I probably put into it. And I can't take much more than 1/16th credit for the Secret Wars project. So here are my official choices:

Worst: Flunking History: Logan circa 1876 A.D. (http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=8452&f_ssn=)
This was a lot of work for little results. I spent so much time searching scenes from Kate & Leopold and I ignored the fact that Hugh Jackman does quite a bit of acting with his facial muscles. He really makes Leo and Logan look like two different people. So making him shorter and fixing his hair was simply not going to do the job.

Best: Thor-mobile (http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze49p8r/thor.htm) This takes you to the hi-res version on my site (dial-ups beware).
This represents the most time and the greatest number of base pics I have ever put into one manip. I spent days on Google collecting and rejecting various images. The file size and the number of layers made my computer move like molasses some times, but I have never been more pleased with the results of any other pics. Funny that both of our faves are Asgardians.
=================================

It would be interesting to see what the rest of you feel is your best and worst works to date, so feel free to join in...

Great thread!

Least: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=9700&f_ssn=

I loved this picture. I spent months on it. Bill T also spent quite a bit of time on it http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif. All the characters were manipped well, and I really like the individual picts, but it was uneccessary. The detail doesn't show and it was here that I learnt to only do what is needed.

Most: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=11473&f_ssn=

I think I nailed every aspect with this. That might sound arrogant but I'm just so proud that I did exactly what I set out to achieve. I love how well the pants turned out, i love the look of the hair, and I think the top turned out great too. I could've done something more to the background but I still like it. This pict just took me to another level. Oh, and teh collar's nice too http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

HA! I love this thread...ok...here goes...

Worst One: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=3386&f_ssn=
I spent a little bit of time on this one, it was Britney Spear's from hell tour....but when I saved it and submitted it the jpg compression seriously crapped it up and made a small negitive colored pic. Was sad...

Best Of:
Besides my obvious choice of the Mullet-Man series, my one fav minip would be this: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=8875&f_ssn=
Because it took some time, and it look cool and just like the comic page.

Well, this won't be all too hard (considering I only have 3 pics in the DCG).

The worst is The Ultra-Humanite's Remorse (http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=10867&f_ssn=). His left arm is cut off, the thought bubble is fuzzy, and there's white spaces inside the thought bubble where the picture didn't go into. The whole thing was a simple cut and paste job.

The best is my first pic, The Gotham Gazette (http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=10487&f_ssn=). It certainly looks realistic enough, I spent a good amount of time on it, and if you read the text it's actually quite humorous, a throwback to the Silver Age of comics's constant "teamups" of Batman and Bruce Wayne.

Hmmm...I don't have too many pics in the gallery, but my worst would have to be
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=10421&f_ssn=

It was my first pic and so obviously not that great. But looking back, now I could do MUCH better.

As for my best, hmm I've got quite a few good ones. My best would probably be
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=12293&f_ssn=

It may look simple and easily done. But it wasn't. I had to recreate the background where the head was, and because of the neck stretch, I had to actually create the top half of the background because the pic went to high. The stretch itself looks sorta fake, but hey. It wasn't easy.

well,i only have 2 pics in there, but i think my worst would have to be.............
DUH!my first one.it was supposed to be a pumpkin bomb that was zooming twoards the ground, thrown by green goblin.the background was a brick wall.i did it all freestyle with ms paint.

my best is the other one.it's a TMNT4 picture i thought about before i did it.

i don't know how to do links;sorry!u can access them normally throuygh the specific artist section n DCG!

what a cool little thread.

worst: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=4389&f_ssn=

this was my first submission. how terrible. i'll uir myself. clean up the base image, the thread lines are just wrong. need to smooth them out and make them follow a consistent path. next time try and put some effort into matching up lighting.

best:
really don't have one that stands out to me. my last few like wolverine, fathom, and iron man to me stand out. not because i think they are better, i just learned a lot by doing them.

My favorite of yours is Human Torch. (http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=11443&f_ssn=) I wish the Torch looked that good in the comics. I can't believe it only took you an hour.

Great thread.

Best one:
Flamebird (http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=11571&f_ssn=)
It's either this or the Batgirl one. People seem to prefer this. I wasn't all that convinced when I first posted this, there are numerous little flaws and the jpeg compression didn't do any favours to the velvety texture of her costume. I don't even know or like the character very much. Still the colors look nice and the scene just works.
I'm pretty proud of my Jokers too.

Worst one:
The Witch Boy (http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=11086&f_ssn=)
Well, my first ones weren't too hot either, but as my first manips I'm very proud of them. But this is clearly my worst manip. I love his hair and face, but that cat just looks stupid. And Teekl's supposed to be a tabby anyway. But the cat was originally black and anyone who's ever worked with fur knows what a b*tch it is.
My last two manips have been pretty disappointing too. That Elektra scetch is just plain lame and look at Gally's arms. Argh!

thanks for the compliments. if it weren't for the cool background that one would be pretty plain.

your secret wars pic has always been one of my favorites. but the cheetah and warbird pics are a close 2nd.

This is a great idea.

Worst not counting my first one. Hmm so many to chose from.Would be Rogue Sabertooth (http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=11359&f_ssn=)mostly because I redid this one and it a lot better.
Best: Well its still in the que so I have not DCG link to it but I have a page of my own with it up. Phoenix (http://www.geocities.com/thevampirespider/phoenix.html) My best one so far.

This is a hard thread...

my worst manip is problably, thisone: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=4768&f_ssn=

Even at that time i could do much better...

my favourite is trickier, since there are so many that alltough they're not perfect, i love a lot... but if i have to chose one, i chose...
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=9366&f_ssn=

for the concept, the all process...

I had to exclude two i'm really proud of, since they're only head or face manips...

Least - Psylocke:
http://comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=3129&f_ssn=
It was my first picture, and it’s good for me to look back on so I can see how much I’ve improved. I’d re-do it but I don’t like the pose, or casting now.

Fav - Rogue Vs Mystique:
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=7794&f_ssn=
I still like this image a lot; I worked a so much on it. I like the style of it, I think I work best in that style. The image is pretty powerful to me, it has a lot of emotion.

Pirate King 2000

like everyone says... "cool thread"

Least fave http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=563&f_ssn=

Although some of my earlier ones were pretty primitive, this is messy and disjointed, with too much "waste" (the leftovers around a poorly cut image. It's also my least fave cos I really wanted to do well with this one and do Watchmen justice.

Favourite...favourite http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=10104&f_ssn=

Mostly cos it's the only one I look at and still think it looks good. While there may be areas of improvement, I can't see any yet, at least not like I can in every other pic

Hey, I never noticed the cool Pirate King logo before. Is that relatively new?

I'm not sure if I have a favourite or least favourite, but I'll try.

Least Favourites:
I suppose anything that falls into the 2nd category would be any very early pre-scene material like this one:
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=222&f_ssn=

That wasn't even serious maniping at all, just playing around.

My least favourite scene would be this one:
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=3847&f_ssn=

That I felt was ultimately too derivative and not original enough. I look at it now and see too much of another movie instead.

Favourites:

The one I spent the longest time on would be this one, and would be one of my favourites for sentimental reasons:
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=7970&f_ssn=

The one which broke the mould from all previous manips consisting of either film posters or cheesecake images was this one:
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=234&f_ssn=

And the one which is frequently cited as the definitive DCG scene is this one:
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=824&f_ssn=

But as for an overall favourite, I don't think I could really identify one. Probably all the Iron Man ones would be high up there somewhere.

Best work..Surprise surprise, it isn't a Death's pic!
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=10780&f_ssn=

It's my personal fave pic, I really liked the way it looks, even with the body made in Poser the pose looks really natural. And Thora's face looks perfect.

My fave Death: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=3279&f_ssn=

My worst work are in fact two: http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=3423&f_ssn=

and
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=3422&f_ssn=

I can say these pics were made in some of the worst days of my life...And I was using the art as a route of scape.Without any sucess, as you can see!

I assume you mean mould? Well, since I've been doing scenes for nearly my whole time at C2F (and no-one did them before me), I'd have to disagree. In what sense do you mean that my Goliath picture broke the mould? How is it significantly different from what i've done before (or what other artists are doing now)?

I guess I think that's ur best, maybe it's just sticks out in my mind because it's recient, but I just was really impressed by it. And as far as breaking the modle...er...mould...I just ment mould as miniping in general, your stuff just totally raises above our preconcieved ideas of miniping.

For the pics I've created during my time here at the DCG...

Least Favorite: This one is just crap, to me. I was trying to do something different and sexy but I was doing them so quickly (I finished 5 in like a month or so, all at 'print size') and I just don't like it. Eventually, I made a lot of corrections and changed a lot of things in it to make it look better. The version I printed out looks a lot better than this one, but it still sucks.
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=4632&f_ssn=

Most Favorite: It's a tie between these two...

This pic was the first one I did where I really thought it looked good. I liked the colors, I liked the lighting, and even though it was a simple pin-up, it was still very difficult to do. It was printed in Mystic #19 and apparently the CrossGen folks loved it.
http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=4992&f_ssn=

This one is a redo of the first pic I ever did. I didn't work so long on it, because I did it at a small size, not at print size. I changed some things, some colors, and other stuff once I printed it out. A lot of comic creators seem to like this one. It's just a simple 'stand there and pose' shot but I basically really like the rendering.
