Greetings all! Marrow2000 has been working for weeks now setting up the latest Comics2Film Fan Art Contest.

This time we're teaming up with Devil's Due studio (G.I.Joe, Transformers, Kore) for a contest aimed at the pencils and inkers out there.

Your mission is to pencil a comic book cover featuring the characters from G.I.Joe.

Click here (http://www.comics2film.com/Specials/DevilsDue/) for contest details!

Rule #3 states "All entries must be must be black and white line art, lust like a typical comic cover. This can be inked artwork or very tight pencils.", so I would assume that you could draw it on your computer. It would be no different than an inked picture, I feel, though it's probably best if Robbo answered this.

Yeah...you could try to create it digitally in the computer...using just black/white/grey tones.

But the end result should be line art.

On the contest page when i try to open the cover example all i can get is an error that says "the plug in did not initialize properly"
What it does not say is what plug in it is that is not initializing properly so i can fix it.
What program do you need to view the cover example??

Yeah, actually I am having a bit of fun. It's been awhile since I tried to do line drawing so its coming along slowly. We got some good competition in here so I know I have to bring my "A-Game".

New York! Cool. If I was there I'd try to go see Conan O'Brian. I've never been to a talk show taping and that one looks like it would fun to be a part of.

For line-art, I would keep it straight lines. That is pretend each of your pencil line will be inked with a pen. so that theres only two mediums. if you want to do shading and shadows use cross hatching, like what they do in comic books!

Hah, well its your choice. I was just suggesting. I thought that maybe gray shading would look odd, but maybe it wont cause it wont be like ink.

The reason i suggested crosshatching was because I planned to ink mine.

Yo Joe !
Thanks for this contest !

Well, I have one question.
You said that the image can be any dimensions (height and width) we want.

All right but for a comic cover, I suppose there are some size restrictions.
So, what is the good dimension for the drawing ?

Good luck to all the pencilers !

Well, a printed comic cover is about 10.25 x 6.75 inches. You should probably work larger and expect your work to be scaled down to that size.

With these contests a lot of people procrastinate. I would expect we'll get the majority of entries in the last week of the contest.

The deadline is July 25th.

Let's go, people!

imported_Robbo
07-04-2003, 09:50 AM
Also, I meant to remind people that Devils Due wants to see uncolored pencils. So, very likely our first entry, which is full color, won't be a contender for the top three.

B.A.Shipp

Question? Are we suppose to put the logo up in it too for perspective...
I do wish we were having a fully colored cover contest as well...that be some fun.

Hi Robbo!
Yeah... that's just as I thought... I know I have no chance to pass 'cause my illustration is full coloured... but I always thought this was a nice piece of art of mine and so I decided to send it anyway... too bad I work all day long in an office - though my dream is still to become an illustrator - otherwise I would have sketched the same drawing in pencil or ink... but I really don't have the time. My present boring job is stealing chances from what I'd really love to do... drawing...

Just make sure your pencils are really tight. All dark areas should be filled in with pencils (no "X" place holders).

Also a reminder:

DO NOT PUT THE TITLE ELEMENTS INTO YOUR IMAGE!

Just leave room for them. Devils Due will add the title and log dress when they color it.

MankindRam: You should resubmit your image without the title dress. It's an awesome work of art and I'd hate to see it dismissed by the judges because you put the logo in.

Hello,

I'm new to this board and just recently uploaded my G.I.Joe contest art. The problem is that when I go back to edit it, there's a red X where the picture should be and a message saying that there are 141 other entries that have to be processed first. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/frown.gif However, when I click on "Edit," the picture DOES appear and there's no red X!

I just got off the phone with Devil's Due and here's the scoop:

The Devil's Due staff will handle the judging of the images.

In the next week (or so) they will narrow thier selection to ten finalists, which we'll announce on the front page. Those finalists will be asked to e-mail in high-resolution scans of their artwork (if available).

Following that, Devil's Due will convene in secret to choose the top three. Those three will be announced here on Comics2Film at a later date and will be colored and published in an upcoming comic.

Something about that statement almost makes me think this contest was an elaborate scheme to pick someone for a satanic ritual.
