Jump in, we'll take you for a spin,
and show you round the Wheelie World
Hop on it's fun to come along,
And take a look at Wheelie World.
You'll be surprised how good it feels.
To zoom around, and you'll wheel so merrily
With me,
You don't need a ticket,
'Cos we'll get you on for free.

That one might be not be familiar to overseas peoples...

Once upon a time, not so long ago,
There was a little girl and her name was Emily,
And she had a shop.

There it is.
It was rather an unusual shop because it didn't sell anything.
You see, everything in that shop window was a thing that somebody had once lost.
And Emily had found,
And brought home to Bagpuss.
Emily's cat Bagpuss
The most important, the most beautiful, the most magical
Saggy old cloth cat in the whole wide world.

Well now, one day Emily found a thing,
And she brought it back to the shop,
And put it down in front of Bagpuss,
Who was in the shop window fast asleep as usual,
But then Emily said some magic words.

Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss,
Old fat furry cat-puss,
Wake up and look at this thing that I bring.
Wake up, be bright.
Be golden and light.
Bagpuss, Oh hear what I sing.

And Bagpuss was wide awake.
And when Bagpuss wakes up all his friends wake up too.
The mice on the mouse-organ woke up and stretched,
Madeleine, the rag doll,
Gabriel, the toad,
And last of all, Professor Yaffle, who was a very distinguished old woodpecker.
He climbed down off his bookend and went to see what it was that Emily had brought.

Bagpuss gave a big yawn, and settled down to sleep,
And of course when Bagpuss goes to sleep, all his friends go to sleep too.
The mice were ornaments on the mouse-organ,
Gabriel and Madeleine were just dolls,
And Professor Yaffle was a carved wooden bookend in the shape of a woodpecker.
Even Bagpuss himself once he was asleep was just an old, saggy cloth cat,
Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.
But Emily loved him

I loved that show.. did you realise there were only about 13 shows made.. ever...

We'll find a pot of gold,
Just sitting where the rainbow's ending,
Time - we'll fight against the time,
And we'll fly the white wings of the wind,

The sound of hoof beats 'cross the glade.
Good foe, lock up your son and daughter.
Beware the deadly flashing blade,
Unless you want to end up slaughtered.

Black Adder, Black Adder. He rides a pitch black steed.
Black Adder, Black Adder. He's very fair indeed.

Black. His gloves of finest wool.
Black. His codpiece made of metal.
His horse is blacker than a hole.
His pot is blacker than his kettle.

Black Adder, Black Adder. With many an cunning plan.
Black Adder, Black Adder. You horrid little man.

Were off to button moon,
We followed Mr. Spoon,
Button Moon, Button Moon
~~~~~~~~~~
Like a streak of lightnin' flashing 'cross the sky
Like the swiftest arrow whizzing from a bow
Like a mighty cannonball he seems to fly
You'll hear about him everywhere you go
The time will come when everyone will know
The name of.....Champion the wonder horse
Champion the wonder horse (fade)
Charles in Charge of our days and our nights
Charles in Charge of our wrongs and our rights
And I sing, I want, I want Charles in Charge of me.
Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they’re always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows your name.
"Hey Norm, how's the world been treating you?" "Like a baby treats a diaper." *chuckle*
Wherever there is danger, he'll be there!
He's the ace! He's amazing!
He's the strongest, he's the quickest, he's the best!
He's terrific! He's magnifique!
He's the greatest secret agent in the world!
Nope. Mr Benn.
It was a (barely)animated show about this well-dressed gent (bowler hat, pinstripe suit etc) who went to a costume shop. every day.
In each episode he'd try on a new costume- cowboy, knight's armour, whatever- and when he left the changing room, he'd be in the appropriate time period and would act out a little adventure.
After each adventure "...as if by magic, the shopkeeper appeared", who would lead Mr Benn through a doorway, and he'd be back in the changing room.
So, to recap:
normal looking guy goes to a bizarre "shop", puts on a costume, acts out a fantasy, and gets told his time is up by a weird man in a Fez. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/eek.gif http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/eek.gif
that is what kid's TV in the UK in the 70's/80's was all about. You can find out more here: www.mrbenn.co.uk (http://www.mrbenn.co.uk)
Mr Benn was a bit of a kleptomaniac.. he was always ..ahem.. "finding" things in his pocket when he got home..
I was always waiting for the day when the Shopkeeper had the rozzers waiting in the backroom to ask him to help them with their inquiries..
Although I loved Bagpuss, I always thought it strange that an 8 year old girl owned a shop...
ah well.. they were more innocent times..
