We are getting better we at least got the right month today, baby steps darth baby steps http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/tongue.gif
and me U.I.R.:
Oh Captain My Captain
by localhero:
Ha haa, caps wings are a bit hard to see but probally just due to the background.

Archangel
by loki:
I think you pulled off the look pretty good. The wings look real nice, some of the lines are crooked. That understandble though after doing so many I guess.

Colossus
by Undertow:
Nice job, not sure how X2 inspired this but none the less looks realy good especially since it is all mouse drawn.

An Uneducated Pug
by Spiderman620815:
Good sketch nice boxing pose.

Hey bub, gotta cheeseburger?
by Kombat Wombat:
This series is a weird one http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/tongue.gif not a bad frankenstien job but he is a bit transparent.

Legion of Super-Heroes: The Movie
by bearbot:
Love and care indeed and I bet a lot a hard work tollerence great job.

They're real
by Atomic Man:
Reminds me of those pictues of things like big foot and nessy, nice job,

Ultimate Hawkgirl
by Sticks:
I like her rings, good work.

Shadowcat
by aharmona;
I really like this one her hand could use some more detail however.

X-Men 139 COVER manip
by gnetsurpher;
Pretty good Emma looks great but the lower half of Jeans suit I think could be better.

Defeat of Shiva
by MarvTMartian:
This is a really cool picture grat background as well. The only areas that I see need some more improvement would be the boots and glove, with just little more work on the belt and this would be practically perfect.

The Thing by Solid Snake colored
by captianmarvel:
Solid Snakes does do some good drawing, its a very good color job but the flesh colored thing just doesnt appeal to me at all.

Sage 01
by Nefertari:
I think you did fine with the face tats, as for the rest you already pointed out in your art note. Keep practiceing and you will come along nicely.

BtVS Manga series - Buffy
by Lady D:
Its cutesi just like her character I like it nice job and good luck on your test.

Batman and Robin Dodge and Burn
by Y2Craig:
Very nice, I would have used a darker blue on bats but thats more personal pref. They're hands have no detial sadly though but it doesnt really take away from the picture any again very nice.

superman: krypton`s chid cover
by dark angel:
Supes up fron looks exalent, the faces in back need some more detail looks unfinished. Looks good looks like a promising story so far from just seeing the art work.

Guys I have 2 major art projects due tomorrow and I just typed the UIR but the computer erased it. I don't have the patience or the time or write another. I agree with Strangefish though, it's great to see the veteran crowd. Damn computer...

Great update everyone!!! Forgive me for no comments today!

EDITED BIT: hehe yeah, i have done quite a few Angel manips during my time here. i'll prob give him a break for the time being. thanks for ye comments.

UIRing now...

CAPTAINs
i love these south park-ish manips, they're simple but great. i agree the wings are a bit hard to see, but its nothing major (or even minor).

COLOSSUS
with the image size reduction, its hard to see detial on colossus. good work using the mouse btw, and nice background. i don't get the things on the right though, are they supposed to be debris?

JACK MURDOCK
like above, i cant really see the detail in the face. the overall pic is nice, though i think he should be more bulkier. good first attempt nonetheless.

ELVIS as WOLVIE
hehe this is pretty funny, and good work on the shadow. i don't know whay you made the character semi-transparent thought? nice work ont he collar too!

THE LEGION
i know how much trouble it can take for ONE manip, but NINETEEN is a whole different ballgame. excellent work on both the manips and the composition. maybe adding a "release date" along the bottom would make it more movie poster-ish.

THEY'RE REAL
is it supposed to look like an old tv screen, or a film strip? i like the effect you made on the body, but apart from that the static/noise in the images makes it hard to look at for too long.

HAWKGIRL
i would try to use poser myself, but something like this just scares the hell out of me. excellent job on it, and i like the way you composed it; body then the head and shoudlers in the foreground. shows up both her expression and the overall body. love the wings too.

SHADOWCAT
this manip has a very vintage feel to it, like you'd see hung up in a pool room. the costume looks great and the background works well too. good stuff.

X-MEN COVER
again, good work on composition. the costumes are reaelly well done, but there are a couple of rough edges. nothing major. maybe adding a background (or backdrop) would make it stand out more.

DEFEAT OF SHIVA
apart from the different textures of various parts of the uniform (cape, bodysuit) this manip is cool. its good to see you used a uniform light source and worked around that. maybe making they background darker would work better for the character

...argh, i have to pick my sister up from school. back with the rest of the UIRs shortly.

...back to it

THE THING
i love the detail in this drawing, especially the face which resembles Tessai from "Ninja Scroll". the colouring is a bbit washed out though, more vibrant oranges would do well for this pic.

SAGE
as you said, her outfit looks a bit awkward. the gloves looka bit to bubbly. the tatoos look fine i think and good job on the hair.

MANGA BUFFY
this has a real old-school sailormoon feel to it. the colouring job is good, and overall i think they're pretty cool pics. too bad you can't see her smart-arse wit in them!

BATMAN and ROBIN
i really like this drawing. the characters (though a bit messy) look good, and the background - assuming you drew it - is great. i like the way you coloured it too, kind of like a silk screen print. good work.

SUPERMAN
man, i'd love tos ee this cleaned up and coloured. but like i keep saying, i love sketches such as this one. i think superman's parents occupy too much of the cover, but that's just me. the new superman looks pretty promising, keep it up.

ah cool. i think its my eyesight that's screwy which is why i cant look at anything for too long. maybe adding a background or setting or something would make it look more like a tv.

Oh Captain My Captain by localhero

Quality! Really liking this series... funny too!

Archangel by loki

Like this too, i'm not really familiar with many of the x-men peps (well marvel really) but the Westlife dude is not someone i can like... but it's not obvious it's him so i'm happy. Really loike the text.

Colossus by Undertow

Really weel done considering it's mouse drawn (how the hell do you have the patience???). Maybe should have closed in on the x more and left some of the left and right bg out.

An Uneducated Pug by Spiderman620815

Great sketch! Love seeing sketched art, good style.

Hey Bub, Gotta Cheeseburger? by Kombat Wombat

Erm.. i don't know why i made him transparnat either.... erm... he's a ghost... no, that won't work... he's got a shadow... erm... dammit!

Legion Of Super-heroes: The Movie by bearbot

Like it, seems a bit crowded but still good. Is that a comic cover recreation?

They're Real by Atomic Man

This is kinda cool. A bit bleak but bleaks good.

Ultimate Hawkgirl by Sticks

Wow!

Shadowcat by aharmona

Good piece, the only bad thing i can say is that the belt buckle looks like it's at the wrong angle... aprt from that i'm soooo impressed.

X-men 139 Cover Manip by gnetsurpher

Bg's a bit plain an the head's look a little off.... porn x-men ladies mind.... hmmmm.

Defeat Of Shiva by MarvTMartian

Yeah, this is really number 2's hot! I agree with Vampire Spider on the boots though.

The Thing By Solid Snake Colored by captianmarvel

Reminds me of killer Croc in a sandy kind of way. Like what you've done with the face though, makes him look more human than the other versions i've seen of him.

Sage 01 by Nefertari

My only complait is the material on the clothes doesn't seem to be real enough to match the picture... but it's Jolie and she's not real either.

Btvs Manga Series - Buffy by Lady D

Totally agree with Loki on this one.

Batman And Robin Dodge And Burn by Y2Craig

Good artist & cover to recreate, your stle is more comicy than Matt Wagners but i like it. The bg's cool too..... reminds me of my time at Art School for some reason.

Superman: Krypton`s Chid Cover by dark angel

Really like this, not sure of the S though but that's just me. I just don't like a typical S on supes chest but that's not a dig at your work. As i said before i love seeing sketches and this is cool as... !

Shadowcat by aharmona is a great picture. That's damn near absolute perfection IMO.

NJDevilAngel

Ok, so now it is time to post a UIR. and I am learning a few things in the process....... Let's go!

O Captain by localhero: Cute! Of course, I being an American, who do you think I'm rooting for? I have to agree the wings are hard to see.

Archangel by Loki: Now this is a much better version that the other Arch/Angel. The costume is very clean, muscles well defined. I like the eyes! The only thing I find fault with is the wings. They still look a little flat.

Colossus by undertow: Statue in the water, city in ruins, what's not to like? Also the falling letters, nice. And ALL mouse drawn. Nice indeed.

An Uneducated Pug by spiderman620815: Odd that you don't mention "Comic book artist" in your short bio. Ohhhhhh, that's cause your not? You should be.

Hey bub, Gotta cheeseburger? by Kom: Young Elvis as Logan, now that IS a match made. Only thing I see is that he is a little transparent.

Legion of superheroes by bearbot: Days upon Days, Weeks upon Weeks? All worth the time. It looks beautiful. Can't think of anything wrong.

They're real by Atomic Man: Not bad. The pic is all lined so it is hard to disern the background is Italy. The girl looks almost ghostlike.

Ultimate Hawkgirl by Sticks: Very Final Fantasy-ish, looks very realistic. Nice job and I love the wings.

Shadowcat by aharmona: I like her coming out of the steel, that's nice. Costume looks comfortable on her.

XMen 139 Cover by gnetsurpher: Phoenix and White Queen looking very catty there. Well done.

Defeat of Shiva by Marv: Face looks great, good cut work. The body looks a little top heavy though. Can barely see the blood on the bat in her hand. And the boots look a little cartoonish.

The Thing by Solidsnake and captainmarvel: Nice colors, but isn't Thing more redish?

Sage 01 by Nefertari: I don't know the Character but like the work. Jolie isn't normally blue eyed is she? NICE!

BtVS Mange- Buffy by LadyD: Looks very cool. Love the colors.

Batman and Robin by Y2Craig: I like it, not bad for pencil.

and finally...

Superman by Dark angel: Mom and Dad in the background, a brooding Kal-el in the foreground. What's not to like?

That's about all I can say for it today. Keep up the good work.

Here's something even more rare: A UIR by me! *grin*

I'm outta practice, but here goes!

O Cap'n: BWAH HA HA! Funny!

Archangel: Kinda groovy and it ties together pretty well. If you want a little more of a realistic look, try dampening the saturation on the colours a little. I've found it does wonders.

Colossus: Very groovy for a mousedrawn. I'd love to see a closer view of the face as it looks interesting.

Battlin' Jack: I don't usually review sketches, but I'm likeing this one. I'd have liked to have seen it finished and tight, though.

Cheeseburger: Wombat, you crazy bugger. I'm loving this series. Mainly because I'm a huge Elvis fan and these are cracking me up.
Have you done, or would you do, one of him as Cap'n Marvel (Shazam)? I'd love to see that. Oh.. and the collar? CRACKED ME UP!

Legion: the movie: My ursine android amigo, this is tres cool. It would be hilarious to see a soap cast take on this project, as the Legion always struck me as somewhat of a Soap Opera, never as tightly written or meshed together as other groups, X-men, Avengers, Justice League, Outsiders, etc, and, well, the permutations they have gone through are straight out of Passions or whatever... you know what I mean... the one with the vampires. Keep going, babe, this is wonderful! And well done, too!

They're Real: No they aren't. I know that girl and I know for SURE that she has had them done.
Oh.. that's not what you meant... *heh*
Digging the effect. Perhaps working the bright/contrast on the figure would be worth a try to make it blend more into the back. Also, a good way to make something look like it's emitting light (learned this from an article with Alex Ross) is to up the bright/cont, then invert it, then lessen the contrast a little. It's a very nest little trick. I used it on the Nova I did all those years ago.

Shadowcat: Very well done. If I were to critique it, I would say to play with trying to get the face to blend a little more with the rest. The rest is VERY well done, but the face seems to be a little out of place. This is, regardless of my nitpicking, a very fine piece.

XMen 139: Pretty good. Again, the faces jar a little with the rest, and there is a flatness to it, but a nice piece.

Batgirl: A very nice piece! I'd like to see more like this.

Thing: Digging.. digging alot.

Sage: Regarding the tats. Here's a trick. Even though they are black, they pick up highlights too, so, try putting them on another layer above the original pic and drawing them in there, then lowering the transparancy a little. The highlights should punch through and they will lighten a bit as they would, from the glow of the skin. Good casting, too!

Buffy Anime: DEB! Good to see you back! I think Buffy would be perfect as an anime series!

Bats and Robin: I like the sketch and dig the colouring. I'm assuming it's Elseworlds-y, with the hair on Robin! *grin* I'd like to see more on this, maybe a back story?

Supes sketch: I love the shading on the main figure. Again, I'd love to see this inked, perhaps without the faces in the back, just the main fig. Any chance of seeing that?

Whew! Got through it!
Well done, all!

Man, I’ve been wanting to do one of these for the last two updates, which were both REALLY good, but I been to busy. But today’s is a great update too, so here we go.

Oh Captain My Captain by localhero

Nice, funny, cool character designs and a joke at the superior of the character’s two costumes. Good opener.

Archangel by loki

I’m gonna have to put my hatred of all things Westlife aside for this. The costume is well rendered, the background cool and the skintone just right. The wings lose a little in the sizing of the picture- they seem a little too “drawn”, especially the linework. Otherwise an effective portrait.

Colossus by Undertow

Very nice. I like the use of colour, especially the various red tones. The falling Russian letters are pretty cool, and there’s no need to say what they and the smoky/burning buildings in the background are supposed to be implying. The statue of Liberty’s “reflection” is a bit off- it’s too linear- but this is a very cool piece. Kudos.

An Uneducated Pug by Spiderman620815

Okay, truth be told, from the thumbnail it looked like someone was wearing a shark or dinosaur head. From the full pic, it is clear this is not the case. The pose is cool and the background gives a sense of action which sketches rarely have. My big niggle is that the shadowing on his eyes looks a little too much like a black mask or cowl, but other than that tres cool.

Hey bub, gotta cheeseburger? by Kombat Wombat

Reminds me of the story about how Brian Singer when ape… doody when someone dared mention Hugh’s hair looked like Elvis’s. The head seems a little small, but this is a nice little “fun” pic.

Legion of Super-Heroes: The Movie by bearbot

Alex- the only person who can do more characters than me in a pic. And better. And faster. Alex, I don’t know much about the Legion but I know what I like. My only complaint is that the Cyborg guy (forgive my ignorance) seems more prominent than the three “main” Legionaires. But that’s just me. Morph one, Robo-Ursine

They're real by Atomic Man

Very cool concept, very well done. The imperfections make this a nigh-perfect image. Kudos, my Portuguese pal.

Ultimate Hawkgirl by Sticks

So, that thar Hurricane didn’t affect your poser abilities, eh Mr Sticks? The wings look very cool, and I love the composition. I miss the helmet though…

Shadowcat by aharmona

Man, this looks like proper Leung-Marrow stylee airbrushing. You’ve taken a potentially cheesecakey base pic and made an image of the character that works with a kick-ass job on the costume to boot. The girders and “power” add to the atmosphere. This is a real “trading card”-style portrait, and I really like it.

X-Men 139 COVER manip by gnetsurpher

I can’t complain about the cheesecakey poses, cos this is a damn good re-working of the original cover. The costuming is very well rendered. Jean seems a little more… buoyant than usual though… http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif

Defeat of Shiva by MarvTMartian

Very nice piece. Good sense of atmosphere and emotion, lighting and shadow working well here. She seems perfectly set in the background, and there’s no shirking on the details. Three cheers.

The Thing by Solid Snake colored by captianmarvel

I’m not sure I remember the original pic, but he seems a little more regularly proportioned than the usually broader Thing. The colouring is nice enough, but he seems a little too smooth. To quote Roy Walker “It’s good, but it’s not right”

Sage 01 by Nefertari

Nice pic in the smooth air-brushin kinda stylee. I’m not familiar with the character, but the costuming and artwork are very slick, although the hair looks too much so. Overall a good piece. And I can see the “strap” fine

BtVS Manga series – Buffy by Lady D

A return to my favourite female Brazilian multi-functional artist, and a brand new series. The art is cool, creating a manga look without being too extreme, and of course avoiding the whole “bad likeness” problem that could befall such a project. I think I’m gonna enjoy this series

Batman and Robin Dodge and Burn by Y2Craig

I’m gonna get this out of the way first- that big white blob on the right hand side really detracts from the picture. It looks like wasted space.
Phew. Now, onto the other stuff- the colouring is cool, especially the limited palette. The inside of his cape should probably be darker or more detailed, but this is a cool piece with a nice mood to it.

superman: krypton`s chid cover by dark angel

You are clearly a talented penciller, but something like this looks too much like a work-in-progress, especially with the guidelines on there. You say it is based on “…old kryptonian`s story…”, but he looks kinda more extreme and broody than a Supes we’re used to. There’s good compostion here, except if this is a cover, where’s the title meant to go?

And remember kiddos, I’m critiquing the art, not criticizing you

Keep on trucking…

uir

oh captain, my captain: funny. nice costumes and colors.

archangel: i'm still not sold on the background. i like the costume it's well done, and the muscalature is nice. the wings just don't do it for me, they have some rough edges and the chrom efilter doesnt help the look imo. i know they are hard, i would like to see a more layered look to them to see them kinda stacked. text is nice.

colossus: mouse drawn, wow. nice work. i like it overall. not to sure on the whole compilaiton of images in the background. i'm guessing the reference is to the legacy virus? nice work with the mouse.

uneducated pug: nice work. i like the look and the robe is nicely done. no complaints to this.

gotta cheeseburger: i think with this pose you should have had someone come out and put the cape on him. nice stuff.

legion of superheores: thats alot of people. nice work. never really read the legion stuff, but what you have here looks very nice.

they're real: i think the scanlines are too noticeable. i like what you were trying to go for i think you could have added more. if it's a photo i would have dropped the scanlines and glossed the photo. added a digital timestamp that cameras add to it. if its a dv pic i would add a record icon and timer....you know just extra stuff.

ultimate hawkgirl: for throwing stuff together it's pretty damn good. i would like to see a full shot. maybe add a hawk logo to the suit, and maybe photoshop the skin a little to lose the posery effect. nice work.

shadowcat: nice, nice, nice. really great costume, i think there are too many wrinkles around the breasts and it kinda makes them lose their shape. the rest of the costume is perfect. really nice work.

xmen139: thats a really big bird. a little slutty but for the most part nice work.

defeat of shiva: nice first manip. those breasts can't be natural....did you go use the liquify tool on those? i would have reduced them if those were the actual size. the bat symbol could use some curvature to match her chest. the rest i think looks great. nice work.

thing colored: the crevices don't seem to be crevices...i think a darker color would help. i think the color is fine just needs some heavy shading in the cracks.

sage01: not too familiar with the character but for what i can see it looks good to me. the blue hair seems a bit blobby, but that could be just me.

btvs: ugh not more buffy. your work is fine, i think that buffy should just go away (don't hate me fanboys and girls...i just think the vampire thing has been played to death recently, where are the creatures from the black lagoon, werewolves, frankensteins, etc). i like the look...very manga (which is what you were going for). the pants are well done. nice work.

batman and robin: what was supposed to be in the foreground? looks good to me....i would have gone with more greys for the building and brought some black in on the capes to give a flow effect.

kyrpton's child: now thats what the new superman should look like. that is nice looking. love to see if colored. wow, nice work on supes.

great update today, alot of top notch work.

Hey everybody!Or, more me, NIHAO!

Since today is an special day, with so many veteran around, and we even have my pic on the gallery, I decided do a little travel to the past time I used to write UIRs every single day.I am not sure if I still remmeber how to do it, but...here ya go:

-Oh Captain My Captain: LOL!!I am not a SP park fun, but it does look funny. And the outfits look cutey!

-Archangel:I like the outfit, but I believe it deserves some shadows, just to add some volume. The wings could look better...It seems a bit to pixaled. The logo job looks great.

-Colossus: Aw, Colossus!I do miss him!!Oh, wait a minute...MOUSE-DRAWNING?!?http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/supereek.gif It's wonderful.Great job!

-An Uneducated Pug:Nice sketch of an important char on Daredevil's background.

-Hey bub, gotta cheeseburger?: Well...As a major Elvis fan, I am not sure it I'd like to see him as Wolvie. But, about the art:the area between the hair and his forehead is kinda confused, and I can see the wall and the floor through his leg.Layer problem, maybe?

-Legion of Super-Heroes: The Movie: Alex AND LSH in the same update?!It made my day!Awesome job,as always - I love your group pics and the way you make everybody looks like they're under the same light.

-They're real:Cool effects.I miss play around with my PSP too...

-Ultimate Hawkgirl: wow, AWESOME Poser job!!I loved everything, specially the close-up/full body design of the pic.It reminds me all kind of cool manga/anime pics.Thumbs up!!
And I miss my Poser too...:P!!

-Shadowcat: WowSimply WOW.Perfect, no complains, nothing to add.Perfect!!

-X-Men 139 COVER manip: Nice redo of the original cover.Emma's neck looks a bit twisted in an weird angle, and Jean's hair would looks more soften...It's hard wrk in a white background anyway.

-Defeat of Shiva:I really liked the cap and the symbol...Really well done.

-The Thing by Solid Snake colored: Nice coloring job... http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

-Sage 01:Good casting. The uniform could look a bit more realistic...And I liked her tattos!

-Batman and Robin Dodge and Burn: Cool drawning!I liked the different angle and the colors u choose.Robin looks a bit as Doug Funny (the animated cartoon... http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif)

-superman: krypton`s chid cover: Strong lines, good shadowning...It needs more work in the anatomy (specially Clark's legs).

- My work: I do miss do things to DCG!I started to skecth Willow, so i do believe we'll have a series here (at least a few main chars).Sailor moon is a big influence for sure! And I really like Buffy series (just dislike SMG,hehehe http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif),and the vampire thing is also being played a lot here in Brazil too...Well, I so love them (But I never asked to be one in the real life!!!).Thanks and special kisses to everybody who missed me and my artwork (The newbies have no idea who I am, I believe, lol!!)!

Kisses,

Cheeseburger: Wombat, you crazy bugger. I'm loving this series. Mainly because I'm a huge Elvis fan and these are cracking me up.
Have you done, or would you do, one of him as Cap'n Marvel (Shazam)? I'd love to see that. Oh.. and the collar? CRACKED ME UP!

i mean take the image into photoshop or your image editor of choice and kinda liven it up. use the dodge tool to brighten the skin a touch where light hits it. the lighting is fine i just like doing touch up in photoshop. maybe run the burn or dodge tool across the lips to deepen the red and add texture. paint some white over the whites of the eyes to make them really pop (of course you still have to do some more blending). Use the dodge tool to liven up the color of the eyes themselves, as well as brighten up the teeth. these are just a few things you could do, are they necessary....no, but they really help a poser image out by making it look not so poser.

hey, that's an idea for a tutorial.

by no means is your image a slouch....one of the best poser pieces i've seen in a while. i just try and think of some extra things that can be done to an image to make it really grab your eye.
