Haven't been posting much of late... Busy with the start of school and whatnot. To make up for lost time, here's a UIR...

Nomads: Sinistra by localhero
Nice work, as usual. Her skin seems a bit too blanched out in spots, though, and the diamond tattoo looks sorta like its floating.

Kingdom Come Superman by Sonic1002
Some Art Notes would be nice. Good computer drawing, but it'd look better if the lines weren't so jagged and if the colours were more gradated.

Kingdomcome Movie by KAZ
How much of this is taken from Alex Ross art? I'm assuming all the characters are, but I'm not really as familiar with his DC/Kingdom Come stuff as I should be... Pretty good, though the lighting on the various characters doesn't entirely match. The poster's composition's not great, but it's not bad either.

Ultimates- T'challa by Tokyo_Bastard
Again, Art Notes would be nice. Simple, but quite nice. The eyes look a bit iffy.

Rebecca Romijn As Poison Ivy 2 by joker21
This is reeeally smudgy in spots, unevenly so. Also, the skin's a bit messy. (dperceful's tutorials in the Art School will help with the latter.)

The Invincible Iron Man by Craig
I rather like the look, even if it was forced on you out of necessity. I think the gold parts of the mask look a bit too yellow and un-metallic, though.

Joking Aside by Kombat Wombat
Quite good, for what little there was to do. His clothes look a bit too bright though.

The Kingpin Of Crime by Spiderman620815
Cool. Good job.

Beast by multis
It's a bit small to be able to judge properly. Hank shouldn't look exactly like a lion though, but more anthropomorphic.

Batman: Intimidation by eceDrihten
Nice poster, though Talia looks too small in comparison with everyone else. Oh, and you misspelled Christopher Lloyd's name. Twice. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif

Batman Vs. The Gang by ALA)V(O
Eh. The added elements look flat and don't blend in properly. I think your other peace was better.

Captain Cold by aharmona
Niiiice. No complaints. I really like the texture of the costume.

War Zone by Ed Hopkins
Really good costuming. Only problem is WW looks like she's floating over the picture rather than actually in it, cause of how blurry and undefined the background is in comparison.

A Perfect Monet by ShadowHusk
Nice, though the yellow bits seem a bit too blurry.

Rena Mero As 10th Muse by Marrow2000
Gods! Amazing work. (Quelle surprise. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif) This makes me almost ashamed to call myself a photomanipulation artist...

Spawn3 by mark
Nice work. Why all the white space around the picture?

I'm glad you liked the costume. Thanks for the comments.

In a real photo (as with the human eye) the background and foreground cannot both be in focus at the same time. What you call "floating" I call creating the illusion of depth. The background is far behind WW, so it is blurry.

I didn't realize you were trying to create depth; my apologies for that.

That said, I am fully aware that the background should not be in perfect focus; I just think it's too out of focus. I've never seen a photo where the background, however distant from the foreground, is quite so blurry.

(Heck, I've made photos with buildings in the background of a similar size to the one in your image that are far further off but are not even remotely as out of focus.)

YMMV, of course (in which case, let's agree to disagree), but that's my opinion.

cheers,

*sigh* just lost all my UIR... doesn't that happen to everyone?? I'll make this quick, cuz I'm impatient now. Only a few, sorry (the ones i can remember)

Nomads: Sinistra by localhero I had written that I liked it and that I think it would look better with darker shadows, so they would contrast nicely with her pale skin. I also said that inverting her clothes changes the lighting on it, as compared to her arms.

Rebecca Romijn As Poison Ivy 2 by joker21
Poison Ivy is tough; I think you should work on the leaves more, they look too smudged.

The Invincible Iron Man by Craig
I had written that I really don't like filter, I think it takes soo much away from this piece. It's a nice piece, I'd like to see it w/o the filter.

Captain Cold by aharmona
I had written that I really liked it. Love the hair, the sunglasses, the cute gun/weapon stuff. I think her clean cut texture, and her weapon contrast a bit with the more natural background, but that's alright. Maybe it's a matter of preference, but she seems way too top-heavy, and not enough junk-in-her-trunk.

War Zone by Ed Hopkins
Aww... sucks cuz I had written a long entry for you, but it's lost now. Basically, I like the piece and I like how you approached it. I agree with the others that the background is blurrier than it should be. Nice costuming work, just a tad too airbrushy as compared to the background. I think if you overlaid a single color over this, it would help unify your piece a lot more.

A Perfect Monet by ShadowHusk
I think she looks too caucasian to be Monet. I would have like to see more of her body.

A couple people have said the background it too blurry. It really all depends on the type of lens that took the picture (if it had been a single shot and not a composite). A wide angle lens would probably leave the buildings a bit crisper than a zoom lens. A war photographer would probably use a zoom lens, so a shot like this would probably turn out much as I have made it.

More important though is that no one has said it looks fake. Before I blurred it, it looked fake. I knew that a slight blur would hide the fact that it was a video game and also comply with the laws of optics.

Most important, however, is how good it looks. Comic book artists draw everything in focus since they are not bound by the use of lenses. The movie Dick Tracy had several FX shots that used compositing to keep the foreground and background in focus simultaneously so as to mimic comics. For that same reason, if I could have kept the background in focus, I would have. But trust me, it looks better this way.

As for losing UIRs - try typing them in a WP or email program so you can save (and spell check). Then cut and paste.

I appreciate that Marrow. As far as the personal preference, no enhancements were made to her physical attributes http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif Blame her genetics http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif
