Solid Snake's Thing - Colored
by localhero
Cool coloring job local.
Ultimates- Iron Man
by Tokyo_Bastard
Isn’t this the same Iron Man you’ve submitted before, only re-colored? Tsk Tsk. You know that’s not Ultimate Iron Man. And why didn’t you use the round bauble things that you have on Iron Man’s abs for your Ultimate Thor picture? They would have been perfect.
Able to leap... which is nice.
by Kombat Wombat
I am so glad this is the last one. These pics aren’t bad at all, just a little creepy. There are some real dwarf comic book characters out there that you could’ve done y’ know.
Lara Croft Colored
by arkheon
Hmm, I remember this drawing. She does look better with color added, although it was a pretty good drawing to begin with. When coloring you want to give the characters some depth by using shadows and highlights. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
The Venom Factor
by lamor112
This is a cool picture. I like the Venom part, but when you decreased the brightness you should have increased the contrast. He looks too ghost-like because he’s blending into the picture, mainly because the background is black and Venom’s costume is black. That’s why the highlights on his muscles and the white on his costume need to be more solid. Love the face and the slobber!
Josh Hartnett as Superman
by sithgoblin
Good job at blending his head with Reeve’s(?) body. You got the shadow and everything. Too bad about the hair.
Spidey and Nightcrawler
by Marrow2000
I’m loving the fact that you’re experimenting and doing more action stuff. I ‘ve been trying to do the same myself (it can be frustrating at times though). This darker style looks great. You make a cool looking Nightcrawler. I would’ve liked more smoke around Nightcrawler’s teleportation though. Nicely done, again!
OC: Lex Issac
by AfterShock
Grrrr…. OC. Oh, that stands for Original Character. Whew! Okay, well you certainly have made good use of the scar tutorial. Great job on that front. The tank top needs work(wrinkles, folds, texture). But I’ll never understand why people want to abuse the most beautiful women in Hollywood.
HELLPAPER
by KAZ
Well, it’s a wallpaper. Congrats.
Utena: Sarah Michelle Gellar
by Uzume
Overall, nice job. You missed some strands of blond hair though.
The new heros!!!
by dark angel
I like the Batman design. Do you mind if I do a picture of Batman using that design? I promise to give you credit.
PRIME TIME
by superace
Very good drawing of Optimus. Nice shade on the coloring too. My only problem is with the X-ray part. It looks like a couple of stickers were placed on top of Optimus.
Female Ghostrider
by Laserskater
Dude.
Batman Year One
by Kev1978UK
Gritty and dark. Cool poster.
Shikari
by B
I checked out the cleaner version. Freaky. I like it.

No time for a UIR at work (and the pages don't display properly on Netscape 4.73 for UNIX anyway), but I just wanted to say to D.K. that this has to be the most originally titled UIR I've seen in a long time. My hat, if I wore one, would be off to you, sir.

Lol. Why thank you sir, the title just popped into my head when I was reading the Red Skull casting ideas in the Captain America thread. That's probably 80% of why I decided to do a UIR today. 10% because my image is in the gallery and another 10% because I haven't done one in so long.

I hope to have time to do one tonight. It strikes me as odd that I can take a minute here or there while I'm at work to post to the boards, but when I get home, my time vanishes like ethics at a political rally...

i hardly ever got to associate comic books with my classes. well, hmm, except for that class i taught a semester on comic books as mass culture, researched and wrote a paper on comics as WWII propaganda, and wrote my mass com tv thesis on my term project on the dominant racist ideologies promoted on smallville. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/tongue.gif

Woo! Stealing time for a review!
Solid Snake's Thing colored by Localhero:
--Wow. I wish someone as talented as yourself would color some of my linework. What'd you do to get the texture on the rock?
Ultimates - Iron Man by Tokyo_Bastard:
--Really nice, shiny reflective surfaces, but I'm with DK on this. Some art notes telling us what you did differently would have been nice. Also, the side of his face looks punched in.
Able to leap... which is nice. by Kombat Wombat:
--Um... Yes... I've missed this series, by and large... did you do Puck at all? Or Tom Thumb? Hm...
Lara Croft Colored by arkheon:
For your first coloring job, you did pretty well. Again, with DK on this, some shadows would be nice. I would have avoided the lens flare on the gun, but that's just me. Good job!
The Venom Factor by lamor112:
--I will choose to disagree with DK on the whole "Venom in Shadow" bit. In fact, I think you made him stand out TOO much. One of the deciding factors about Venom, part of what made him so cool (as opposed to Carnage, which was a stupid, stupid, stupid idea, imho) is that he's just so bloody CREEPY. Making him look like a part of the shadow, as opposed to being apart from it, would have kicked this up a notch or two on the creepy factor.
Josh Hartnet as Superman by sithgoblin:
--Could you have painted his hair in along the blend-line a little? Moved it around to make it look more natural? Every time I've failed to do something along those lines, it's come out looking bad. You've done a much better job than I have, so you obviously must be doing something right, but the hairline looks a little blurry, to me, rather than more of a natural blend. Other than that, I like it.
Spidey and Nightcrawler by Marrow2000:
--My word, man. I don't care that you're younger than I... I wanna be you when I grow up. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/biggrin.gif
OC: Lex Isaac by Aftershock:
--I often wonder why people who create characters with teleportation also want to make them super fast. However, that is not what we're here to discuss. That said, good work on the scars and bruises, but the tank top needs a lot of work. Putting the highlights and shadows along the contours of her breasts would have provided a much greater sense of depth and, well, volume. right now, it looks like she's draped in two-dimensional smoke. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/frown.gif
Hellpaper by KAZ:
--It certainly is.
Utena: Sarah Michelle Gellar by Uzume:
--Here you run into two of my prejudices. One, I think that SMG is highly overused in such castings. Two, I really, truly, can't stand Utena. It ranks up there with Evangelion on my list of severely disliked Anime (and yet I love anything by Leiji Matsumoto, go figure). HOWEVER! That being said, I think you did a good job. I'd have put a few more shades of color variation on the trim of her coat, though.
The new heros!!! by dark angel:
--Nicely done. One question, though... what do real-world physics have to do with The Flash? http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif
PRIME TIME by superace:
--Technically proficient, and you've done a good job at making him look like the early Marvel Comics Optimus. However, the light source is very ambiguous, and DK's right, it looks like you've stuck decals on him.
Female Ghostrider by Laserskater:
--I'd like to see more of her face, really. It looks like she's got a crystal skull, which, if so, would be a really COOL new idea for Ghostrider!
Batman Year One by Kev1978UK:
--Take the figures out of the bottom of the picture, and THAT is the promotional poster I would go see a new, non-animated, Batman film for.
Shikari by B:
--I, too, went to look at the hi-res version. MUCH nicer and cleaner. My only gripe with either version, really, is that the ruins don't look like they're very far away from her. She looks like a giant towering over the rocks, there. Add some contrasting tones to the colors you're using on the background to grey it out as you recede, and you've got the stuff, there. And, btw, I love Dawnstar, but I like Shikari better. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif
Hush by D.K. Hood:
--Damn you, you WILL have the next piece of this up soon, right? This is REALLY good. It captures the mood of the Hush series quite well! I have only ONE fidget on this, and that is that Catwoman's breasts are suffering from Poser Syndrome, and that means they're not falling backward along her body like they should for that pose, but that can be explained away by saying her costume is armored. Yeah, that's the ticket. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif
Done and done!

Well I did submit both pics at the same time so the second will appear in the next update, however, the full higher resolution image is up on my website(which is so barebones that I have to chuckle when I call it that)now. http://www28.brinkster.com/jmyrick/index.html
JEM:
Thanks for the comments. (Everyone else look at the hi-res version too please, it's far better. I couldn't get it down to 90k properly at all... http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/frown.gif )
You're right about the background, though. Wish I'd noticed before (I really need a, uh, proofviewer. Or whatever the term would be.) The ruins are actually quite a distance back (done in a 3D modelling program, after all), but I don't think I have enough haze or fog in the background for it to actually *look* like they're as far back as they are. Ah well, next time.
And I too prefer Shikari. I like Dawny, but the design was always just a bit too stereotypically American indian for my taste. Shikari's far more interesting in both look and (IMO), character.
Oh, and I haven't time for a proper UIR, but I'd just like to commend lamor112, Marrow (as usual http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif) and especially D.K. for some awesome work.
Cheers, all.

Hi !
Thanks for your comments. For the shadows, the problem is a loss with 90k reduction cause on the original (wich is bigger) shadows are visible but, I admit, they're a little too simple and with reduction they just been shaded off. I'll do better next time http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif and that'll be soon, with a Jim Lee's Batman http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif Already in cue for the DCG !!! Hope you'll like it.

Cheers Dude. As for the rock this is how I did it.. I think it was the combination of the texture and the noisy hardlight layers.
Promoted the sketch to a layer set to multiply and kept it on top. Put down a base color roughly a medium skin tone. Added noise. On a Hard-Light layer, used the Eyecandy Chrome filter to get the raised effect with the shiny penny texture (if memory serves) to get the color. Added some noise to muss it up a bit too.Colorized the eyes blue. Then on a new Burn layer I added a texture I have, that kinda looks like a close up of a rough cast wall/concrete.

I was away for the weekend, so I'll do a quick run through on a few of them.
Solid Snake's Thing - Colored by localhero - You have the texture down perfectly. The thing here to consider is that his body form gets lost in the texture. I think using some bluer shadows under his arms would help pop him out more. But nice job!
The Venom Factor by lamor112 - Nice work on this, I just think his shadows could be darker.
Shikari by B - I like this piece, it's pretty cool. Hmm... how to improve on it... Maybe darkening parts of the background more. That way it'll pop the foreground out some more.
Hush: Pic 1of 2 by D.K.Hood - save the best for last... this is great! There are some pixelation and clarity issues, but I just love the feel of the pic. Batman looks sooo good. Catwoman has some problems, I think.... looks like her head is missing from her torso.. and I dunno about those boobies. But overall, just some touching up on shadows and lighting, and it'll rock even more. Good job!

Thanks for the compliments and critiques. Its always fun to do an image with at least two of the "big 3". Originally I was going to do an image of Wonder Woman and Superman together embracing each other but then I read Batman #611. When I saw Supes together with Poison Ivy inspiration took over.
If you'll pardon me going all gushing fanboy on you, Marrow, I'd just like to say how cool it is to get comments & criticism from one of my two favourite artists on this gallery (along with Welshy). Cheers.
Oh, and your DD/Elektra piece is amazing. But I'll try to get to that in the proper thread...

BUMP!!
Just go to my website (http://www28.brinkster.com/jmyrick) to see what I did with your design dark angel.
I kind of bastardized your version because there were some things that bugged me the more I thought about them. I changed the mask because it looked too much like the Black Panther instead of Batman. And if his face is totally covered then I figured his entire body should be covered, therefore no bare arms and no finger holes in the gloves(besides we don't want to leave fingerprints around).
I liked the idea of Batman not wearing undearwear outside his costume but that made is suit look too light. It needed darkness so I made the legs black(and lighter than leather or heavy rubber, more like a tailor made wetsuit). Also, I kept the cape attached to the bat on his chest and spread the bat wings over to his shoulders.
Any comments are appreciated, especially yours dark angel.
