We likes that Transmet pic! And one of my preferred casting choices for Spider, too (the other's Edward Norton).

Full UIR later. Just wanted to get this started while it's still New Years Day. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/biggrin.gif

Haven't done one of these in quite some time. About time I got back in the UIR saddle. Here's one to start off the new year of UIRing.

Who Needs Adamantium Anyway? by siddhartha - Not bad. But at the same time, not quite coherent. I'd suggest moving Magneto into the background. He looks to be looking ahead of himself and Wolverine is right to his right. It just doesn't mesh and it bugs your eyes. Also, try getting a better background since that one looks too much like Star Trek.

Dark Knight Returns Robin by M - Woulda been cooler had for face been cartoonized to match the rest of her. And lose Mr. Ward.

Steel by Romeo Flatstone - Ugh.. at least change the 'actor'. Otherwise, not bad despite the source.

Dc-marvel Heroines 1 by Yusuf - Ach.. that new Huntress costume still hurts my eyes. Anyway, these drawings looks good and it's a nice assortment.

Lindsey Vuolo As Harley Quinn by Powermaster Jazz - definitely too painty, but I can see where you're going with this. Keep trying to blend the costume more. Also, personally I don't like using Playboy pics. I love Playboy pics, they look amazing, but they all look like pics from Playboy and don't often fit the character and scene.

Legend Of Zelda: The Movie by Psylockegirl - I doubt Nicole and Tom are gonna be playing lovers ever again. Anyway, as for the casting, I think they're both tool old. Well at least Cruise is. Dunno the guy as Gannon. The art looks good, though some parts seem a bit too brush stroke like, but it kinda looks cool like that,

Mystique by FroyGonJinn - Honestly, I really don't see much point to this pic.

Bullseye !!! by Laserskater - Um... yeah.. well Laserskater certainly always take the award for originality. and abounding weirdness. Not to mention the stangest legs you will ever see. Eh.. to each their own. Anyway, is it just me of does this totally reek of the death of Elektra. Dunno if LS was refering to that in the title or it was mere coincidence. Anyway, keep making those weird pics from comics I stay away from, LS.

Marlene Dietrich - Catwoman by LRK - The mask is pretty good. A little cartoonish still, yet it looks good.

Polaris And Rogue by Majik1387 - Ugh ugh ugh. Why even use that horrible show as a source for base pics. For a first manip the coloring isn't bad. For tips, check out the tutorials. You need to blend in the recoloring more, especially in the hair. Hair is a pain to do anyway.

Psihawk Trading Card1 by Shaylinn - Pretty cool fanfic concept and good execution on the pic. Really like the wings.

Raven Darkholme by daekazu - First of all, I have been loving all of your work. Your style is goregeous and your coloring is amazing. Sweet job here as always.

Transmetropolitan by eceDrihten - Hmmmm... for some reason I think Kevin Spacey has too nice of a voice for Spider. I keep thinking a type of voice like Denis Leary. Not him, but one of those loud ranty voices. Always thought Spacey had more of a soothing voice. Still.. this looks like cool casting anyway and it looks great.

U-go Girl by B - Dunno why I thought this was Uma Thurman. Anyway, good casting, seen it before, but still good and nicely done here.

The Doctor Is In by Spiderman620815 - Pretty good movie based drawing. The resolution or just the way it compressed seems to lose some details.

Snake In The Shadows by effektdmentality - Hmmm... Damn cool pic. Nicely made. Not quite photo realistic, but it looks good that way and it is all coherent and you can tell the casting. Very nice. Now my pick for Snake is Kiefer Sutherland. I like Boreanaz, but he doesn't seen old enough plus his voice doesn't have the right sound for me. Sutherland has more of the raspiness I need for Snake.

Okay, back. Here goes...

Who Needs Adamantium Anyway? by siddhartha
Agree with everything Xenos said. Magneto's too far in the foreground. Also, while the pose is good, the expression doesn't really work. And the lighting's off again.

Dark Knight Returns Robin by M
Same comments as for your other work. Plus she's wearing the wrong costume for DKR.

Steel by Romeo Flatstone
Very good sophomore effort. Not quite sure what you did here, though. More detailed Art Notes would be appreciated.

Dc-marvel Heroines 1 by Yusuf
Very nice drawing. Some of the further off characters are rather hard to make out and look a bit weird here and there, though--like Huntress' hip.

Lindsey Vuolo As Harley Quinn by Powermaster Jazz
Now, now, there's nothing wrong with painty (claims the sole proponent of said style. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif) The problem's rather that some of the lines look really messy, especially around the collar, cuffs and jester-cap balls. And her face looks really weird. Also, gotta agree with Xenos that Playboy photos look too much like Playboy photos.

Legend Of Zelda: The Movie by Psylockegirl
Not sure about the casting either, but then I hate both Cruise and Kidman, so I'm biased. Looks quite good, but bits are way too smudgy, especially the various characters' hair.

Mystique by FroyGonJinn
Good cut-n-paste, but it'd be nice to see something other than good cut-n-pastes.

Bullseye !!! by Laserskater
Uh... well weird, as usual. Can't really say anything else.

Marlene Dietrich - Catwoman by LRK
Mask's a bit blurry, and the highlights should be a bit brighter. Otherwise, good work again.

Polaris And Rogue by Majik1387
Welcome to the DCG! Not a bad first manip. Good recolour. As Xenos says, you need better blending. The hair's ugly, and as for those nasty white outlines... Ick.

Psihawk Trading Card1 by Shaylinn
Really cool! I like the concept. The wings look great. Really awesome. The costuming and Frankensteining are well done too. Only problem I can see is that the hair's a bit blurry.

Raven Darkholme by daekazu
The usual awesome work. I loooove your skintones. Great job!

Transmetropolitan by eceDrihten
As I said above, I really like this. It's too obviously Poser-y and the neck area looks a bit weird, but it's still really well done. I like the really bled out old filmreel look of the background. I like the casting (assuming I'm matching actors to characters properly. It'd be nice to know who's who). Like I said, I really like Spacey as Spider. He's played some great nutters, and I think he's a good enough actor to get the character right, which is the most important thing. Of course, he's my favourite actor so I'm quite certainly biased.

U-go Girl by B
I dunno why you thought it was Uma Thurman either, Xenos. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif I know it's not original casting--like I said in my Art Notes, Kev did it a few years ago. But it's still good casting, and that's more important, IMO.

I must say, I'm still really happy with this one. I usually go off of my art a bit between when I enqueue it and when it shows up, but in this case I still like it. The costuming is among the best I've done. There's a couple pieces of mine I like better overall--the background here's nothing special--but I still really like this one.

The Doctor Is In by Spiderman620815
Oooh, shame about the compression. A bigger version of this would be cool. Your usual great work, the tentacles look awesome.

Snake In The Shadows by effektdmentality
Welcome to the DCG! Awesome debut. Great lighting, great armour, great work overall. And done from scratch too... wow. Only thing I dislike is that it's just a touch too blurry.

thanks for the support on my first manip. sorry its so blurry, but i hadn't really known about ways to compress the file size until it was too late. oh well. thanks again! =]

Thanks a lot, guys http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif.

The neck was a huge problem for me. It took me most of the 6 hours (or so) to get it to where it was. Problem was that the Poser model's proportions were such that Kevin's head always looked a little odd. In the version I had almost submitted the neck was nearly twice as long as pictured--frighteningly long! Also I couldn't get the lighting to match so I had to burn-and-draw in some myself. So if it looks odd it's mainly because I have no skills.
Thanks for your comments!
eceDrihten!

alright I'm out of UIR retirement...

Who needs Adamantium by siddhartha -
Cool demostration of Magneto's power, but I can't even tell where wolverine is in the picture. it's half a really good pic

Dark Knight Returns Robin by M -
I almost like your style of photo manips. It's kinda got a cool cartoony look, but I don't like the way it works with the faces you've maniped. I'd rather the costumes looked more realistic or you could make the face look less.

Steel by Romeo Flatstone -
Not being a guy who does manips, or ever watched the movie steel I have no idea what you did here. needs more notes

DC-Marvel Heroines by Yusuf -
wow great looking wonderwoman. faces are really your strength, I'd like to see a bit more detail and attention paid to the rest of the figures.

Harley Quinn by Powermaster Jazz -
To many rough spots around her head. good coloring its just that the rough lines around her face are very distracting.

Legend of Zelda: the Movie by Psylockegirl -Wow is that really nicole kidman, nice job with her. Gannon is a bit to dark though

Mystique by FroyGonJinn -
that's a nice trick with the comic overlay, but there's not a whole lot here.

Bullseye by Laserskater -
so who is that supposed to be punching supergirl? yeah I'm not going to say it sucks or nothing, but I don't really like this at all.

Catwoman by LRK -
very cool, a bit simple but it looks good.

Polaris and Rogue by Majik1387 -
rouge looks like she's been punched in the mouth. the way you placed the backgrounds looks way off, you should have mirrored the one on the right to make it look like they were in the same alley.

Psihawk Trading Card1 by Shaylinn -
not bad at all. I'm not sure I like the card layout, but I like the manip.

Raven Darkholme by daekazu -
very nice, I like your style a lot. nice job with the colors.

Transmetropolitan by eceDrihten -
great looking picture, love the b&w background with the color spider. good idea and great execution.

Ack! gotta go, I'll finish tomorrow morning.

Who needs adamantium anyway? by siddhartha -- As others have mentioned the lighting is odd. I do like the strings of adamantium but it would work better if Magneto was actually gesturing towards Wolverine.

Dark Knight Returns Robin by M -- Added cutout of Burt Ward in costume but no new comments beyond that.

Steel by Romeo Flatsone -- Looks pretty good but like others mentioned a bit more info on what you did would be appreciated. And maybe a larger base pic.

DC-Marvel Heroines1 by Yusef -- The Wonder Woman really stands out in this image. The layout seems a bit haphazard in some places. It took me a second look to decipher Wanda's cloak from the background.

Lindsey Vuolo as Harley Quinn by Powermaster Jazz -- you can always tell Playboy style poses but its not too bad for this pic. There seems to be something a bit odd about her cheek though. And I don't know about the white outline. But the work on the body of the suit is nice.

Legend of Zelda: The Movie by Psylocke Girl -- Same comments as on the individual pics. Don't know about the layout either. Unless "Ganon" is the main character I would think that he should be smaller than the others.

Mystique by FroyGonJinn --Another Cut and Paste. In this one I would have liked to have seen you match the color of the glow on Mystique to the glow coming from the center of the "X"

Bullseye!!! by Laserskater -- Your choice of models is always unique and I really could have done without seeing quite soooo much "Kara's" rear. And there is something odd about his mouth but its a bit too blurry to make out.

Marlene Dietrich -Catwoman by LRK --Pretty cool work on the mask. I like the casting.

Polaris and Rogue by Majik1387 --Pretty good recolor on the pants. The tops and hair need some work but for a first manip nice job.. You should check out the art school for some great tutorials on how to work on those aspects. Welcome to the DCG.

Psihawk -- Mine -- Thanks to everyone for the comments. Looking at it now I can see how blurry his hair really is.. Guess that's what you get when you use a person with wet hair. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif

Raven Darkholme by daekazu -- Yet another gorgeous pic and wonderful color work.

Transmetropolitan by eceDrihten - I wish I was more familiar with this story and character he looks intriguing. Having him be the only thing in color other than the Name really makes him stand out.

U-go Girl by B -- Fave pic of the day... And it's nice to know someone else frankenstein's hair in. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif I love the shimmery satin feel of the costume.

The Doctor is in by Spiderman620815 -- Nice work. The detail on the tenticle tips is very well done.

Snake in the Shadows by effecktdmentality -- I really like the way this looks. I know a couple of people have commented they didn't like the blur of it but to me it almost makes it look like the whole thing was drawn from scratch in photoshop and not just the body. I look forward to seeing more and welcome to the DCG.

“Steel” was a film starring Shaquille O'Neal in the title role of John Henry Irons who builds a suit of armor and wields a sledge hammer ala the legendary figure. The film character is based on the hero from DC Comics who, inspired by Superman, dons his armor to pick up the slack when the real Supes “died”. My base picture is Shaq in a publicity shot from the film, but I’ve added the cape and “S” symbol, conspicuously missing from the film.

Thanks for the comments.

ok so tomorrow morning meant the day after tomorrow morning... here's the wrap up.

U-Go Girl by B -
Nice display of power M take note of how B does this. The costume has a more cartoony kinda look to it so he makes sure the hair and face match it. Nice job

The Doctor is In by Spiderman620815 -
Good job with the tentacles, I always hate to draw that kind of repetative crap. I will say Spideys head does look like it was thrown in at the last minute. I think it would've worked better if you could see down to his shoulders, as it is now it looks a bit off.

Snake in the Shadows by effektdmentality -
Nice job with snake, I think the text on the bottom takes a bit away from the picture, still nice work. the whole picture has a great style to it.

RE the angel pic:

By the way, dudes, this is a transcript from a nitpicky artist friend of mine. She's an art major. You have been warned. Take it away, Fos!

"Wings should be asymetrical. Same way the perspective on people changes angles of, say, the pecs, the farther-back wing would probably be bent a bit. Primary feathers-- all I can tell you, look at spread wings of birds. National Geographic is great help on this. I love the coloring though, iridecence is well done, gives a real feeling of movement. Also, general structure of trading card is nice and straightforward, I like the overlay. Question on the hair: if that is his natural coloring, (or even not) could he have some lighter purple highlights, or maybe a shine? The lightsource on the pants and face matches up, but not on the jacket, and the hair has no lightsource at all. I know these are really nitpicky, but when a picture is impressively good, all that's left is the nitpicky stuff."

Postscript (from eceDrihten): And there you have it. I love you all!! *Running away!*

Thank you for the nice words and please thank your friend I can she what she means next time I will try and morph the wings I used as a base.

You are right on the hair and jacket too... The hair is just the result of using a dark haired model whose hair was slicked back and wet to begin with. And until you mentioned it I didn't even notice the lighting was off on the jacket.

Thanks again.

U-Go Girl: i really like the top...your style really makes it a piece of art. the skin is handled well, doesn't look like just a hue change...if it was the smoothing (if you applied some, it looks like it) really helps out. nice wrinkles on the arm, wrinkles are a weird, sometimes they turn out awesome, then you try 'em on your next pic and they look crappy. judging by your art notes, you understand where i'm coming from. my only thing is the face....seems alot brighter than the rest of the body, of coursethis could be done on purpose as the light seems to be coming from the 2 o'clock position. great work, up there with your dead girl and venus dee milo pics (they are my favorites of yours).

Ask and ye shall receive, it seems. Thanks muchly, Dan. Your comments are always incredibly useful--that's why I asked for them!

I did indeed do smooth out the skin, as well as adding some highlights (though there should be more of those on her torso). I completely agree with your comment on wrinkles. That's the part of costuming I hate the most, just cause you can work on them for hours with nothing to show for it. The lighting on the face was intentional, though I now think I overdid it a bit.

Thanks again!
