Story. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060313/ap_en_tv/people_isaac_hayes)

I think I'm siding with South Park on this one. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

So he's fine with them making fun of abortion, gays, the elderly, starving little African children, Judaism, Christianity, Catholicism, and Mormonism, Satan-worshipping little animals, AIDS, rich people, poor people, BASICALLY ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING ON EARTH, for 9 seasons, but they do one show about Scientology and he has a problem? CRAAAAAAAAAAZY!

I can't wait for the episode where they're going to parody Hayes about all this crap.

You know they're already working on it.

Chef was certainly a fixture, especially in the later years, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle this. It will mean bringing other characters to greater prominence but they've done that before to much success so I have no doubt they will again.

By the way, does anyone know if Hayes' decision occurred before they started writing and / or voicing the new season (set to debut in less than 2 weeks)?

Yeah, it sounds like he can't handle being affended, but he can do it to other people? Yeah i'll miss Chef but they will make one funny episode out of this thats for sure...

Yet more evidence for just how thin skinned Scientologists are.

You know, I usually try and be open minded about people's feelings and beliefs, but after clicking and reading the last link, only one thought comes to mind. Screw these people, and you can make me Fair Game for it.

Screw who? I'm not sure anyone could figure out who you think is full of shit.

Sorry for the confusion. I was refering to the fact that if scientologists actually believe this "Fair Game" rule that was posted in the hyperlink, then they can all go to hell

STone and Parker were on Letterman last night. I was waiting for them to rip in Hayes or something, but they just simply mentioned he hadn't been a big character in the past couple of years and he was leaving the show because he was offended.

I still hope they skewer him in a show though...

I don't know if anyone else saw this, but last night on Comedy Central, my program guide said they were showing "Weight Gain 4000" and the infamous "Trapped in the Closet" episode. Instead, they were actually showing "Chef Aid" and "Chef's Chocaolate Salty Balls," two of the most popular Chef episodes. Was this a farewell kinda thing, were they trying to take viewer's minds off the whole Crazy Hayes thing, what? I just thought that was interesting.

Parker and Stone (http://tv.yahoo.com/news/ap/20060317/114265290000.html) fire another shot.

From TVGuide.com (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Entertainment/)

FAST FOOD: South Park has whipped together an episode addressing the recent hooplah surrounding Isaac Hayes' exit from the series. "The Return of Chef!", which will now launch the series' 10th season on March 22, depicts the "triumphant homecoming" of Hayes' alter ego. "While Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman are thrilled to have their old friend back," the press release states, "they notice that something about Chef seems different." Per the New York Daily News, Comedy Central isn't saying whether Hayes' voice is used in the episode and it's unclear whether the fresh episode targets Scientology. As reported yesterday, there is now a question about the circumstances of Hayes' departure.

You know, this is probably the best piece of publicity South Park has gotten in years. There's going to be a ton of people tuning in tonight just to see the results.

I read an article recently (I think it was linked to either in this thread or the one over in the General TV forum) that said they've done some creative editing with past dialogue from Chef to incorporate him into the episode. Apparently, it will occur to the boys that something is amiss and they have to do something to save Chef. My guess is, in the end, Chef dies a horrible, gory, miserable, yet funny death.

Isaac Hayes' Quitting Controversy
by Roger Friedman

Isaac Hayes did not quit "South Park." My sources say that someone quit it for him.

I can tell you that Hayes is in no position to have quit anything. Contrary to news reports, the great writer, singer and musician suffered a stroke on Jan. 17. At the time it was said that he was hospitalized and suffering from exhaustion.

It’s also absolutely ridiculous to think that Hayes, who loved playing Chef on "South Park," would suddenly turn against the show because they were poking fun at Scientology.

Last November, when the “Trapped in a Closet” episode of the comedy aired, I saw Hayes and spent time with him in Memphis for the annual Blues Ball.

If he hated the show so much, I doubt he would have performed his trademark hit song from the show, “Chocolate Salty Balls.” He tossed the song into the middle of one of his less salacious hits and got the whole audience in the Memphis Pyramid to sing along.

I can tell you, Hayes was very pleased with himself, was in a great mood and, as always, loved his fans' coming up to him and asking him about Chef.

As recently as early January, before his stroke, Hayes defended the "South Park" creators in an interview with “The AV Club,” the serious side of the satirical newspaper, The Onion.

I don't remember hearing anything about a stroke... Besides, would Matt and Trey rip on him like that if it was true?
