Tigra Pencil Sketch by KLA 1
Very nice drawing. The torso seems too long, but otherwise I don't really see any problems with this. Nice work on the fur.

Quasar by Nickice
Nice piece, as usual. I like the power effect. The cape's nice as well. But I agree with what others have said, that you should try your hand at other media.

Mc Tristanastrophe Rmx by Level1
Very nice wallpaper, if largely interchangeable with everything else you've done. Why not try something different?

Superman by Hughes
Art notes please. It's okay, picture quality's iffy.

Batman by Sonic1002
Awesome for Paint. I don't see any real problems with it.

Jla Vs. Squadron Supreme by bearbot
Damn nice scene! This makes me wish (again) that I had Poser. A few anatomical oddities: GL's shoulders look weird, rather hunched, and Bats' head seems to be too high up, while his torso looks stretched. Good costuming everywhere, nice colours and details. I think Supes is the best of the lot. Some of the metal work is a bit plasticky, ie WW's bracelet and Power Princess' armour (which I think is metal). Supes' hair seems kinda pale, too greyish. Oh, and I'd have added some motion blurs where appropriate. That's just me, though.

Batgirl by fanboy1171
Damn! Awesome. You do great work! Great colours and shading. Her torso area looks really weird, not quite sure why, and her thighs seem a bit too long. Oh, and she appears to be a bit crosseyed. Otherwise, no complaints. Again, awesome work.

Batman Begins by dsimpsons1
Not bad. The cowl on Bats is nicely done, though rather painty. The pic is way too cluttered though, it doesn't need everyone on it. A simpler layout would work wonders. Picture quality is greatly varied, with some characters being really pixelly and/or blurry. Check out dperceful's tutorials in the art school for help with that. Scarecrow's okay, but the texture doesn't wrap at all, and the breathing apparatus looks like its floating. It should cast a shadow and possibly be at a bit more of an angle.

Shi by kevin newburn
Oddly enough, I've never actually read anything with Shi in it. I ought to, sometime. Anyway, awesome as always. I think I like this better than the Mystique one. The costume is better drawn, I particularly love the boots. The swords are nice as well. Ditto the hair. I'd say I want to colour this, but I really ought to colour the last thing of yours I said I'd colour first. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

90's Cartoon Rogue by MaidenRaine1300
Welcome to the DCG! Decent debut, though it's rather pixelly and the cartoony hair and costume clash with the face. I expect this is Paint, in which case this is good work for the software. I'd really suggest getting something a bit more versatile though.

Ice Time by trekkie
Haven't seen an animated gif here in forever. Pretty good piece, the ice effect is well done. I'd probably have gone for a fade from non-frosty to frosty rather than a wipe, but that's me.

Ghost Rider by DarrenJSeeley
Good piece. Well Frankensteined. I'm not entirely sure the filters help though, they make the whole piece look kinda messy. Also, some bits are rather blurry, ie the flames and the chain.

The Phoenix by mahsess
Pretty good. She's quite blurry though, and the costume lacks depth. It really needs more shadows and highlights. I'd check out StrangeFish and Marcelo's tutorials in the art school for some tips on costuming. And the glow would probably work rather better if there was a proper background, here she's just fading out a bit at the edges rather than glowing.

Spider V Octopus by ali786
Very cool. I love the use of shadow here, nice work. Both characters look good, the redesign for Ock works. His hands seem a bit small. The tentacles, conversely, are awesome. Great work on those. Spidey's great, though the spider on his back seems rather too bright.

The Shadow Of Yesterday by devilbunny
Cool! Something new from my favourite illustrator in the gallery! Why why why are people allowed to have this kind of talent? There should be a law against it... Absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful drawing, sublime colouring, no complaints. The girl is indeed hot, and the sky is awesome as well. I love the glow of the moon. And it's awesome to see its light on the characters. I love the dog guy as well. Great work, thumbs way up. My favourite pic of the day, lest anyone wonder.

Hellbrat by Adi Darda
Welcome to the DCG! Awesome debut. Art notes would be nice. Is this Illustrator? Anyhow, this is just... wow. Great work. Awesome linework, gorgeous colouring. Beautiful skintones, those reds are great. I love his face, his expression is wonderful. Great work on the gun, though I'd maybe add a bit of shine to it. Great background as well. If it weren't for the Bunny, this'd be my favourite pic of the day. In fact, what the hell, let's make it a tie! It's not as though there's a law limiting the number of pics I can anoint like this. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif Again, awesome work.

B, you're right. I just was making some Magna Carta series types of wallpapers in honor of the original artist. I have contacted the website, and I believe its SunSoft about the original artist so that I may be granted honorable permissions for all of his work. I normally do this type of work as a hobby for home use, and am looking to be established and discovered by the original artists, and other corporations. Microsoft will be contacting me soon concerning the OS wallpapers, images, and graphics that I specialize in concerning the formulations of desktop images and related themes for Windows.

Thanks for the comments, and critiques by all members here. Much appreciated. Keep an eye out for VIDA GUERRA as Wonder-Woman that I have uploaded already, its just awaiting approval from the Staff.

Tschooos!

I notice my GR submission in the UIR (8/25) does not have a thumbnail. The image works fine (as it should; it was approved) but the thumb is not showing on my screen.

This happen to anyone else?

In any case, I like to thank the panel for thier constructive criticism....

thanks for the comments B, the hands are mainly in shadow thats why they seem smaller, and the spidey sign I did brighter on purpose..I was experimenting, thats my excuse...

Tigra pencil sketch by KLA 1
Beautifully done fur… Proportionally the legs are a bit short. The scan could have been cleaned up some.

Quasar by Nickice
More good cartooning… Better scan/photo image quality this time around. Facial symmetry and proportions look off rather than exaggerated or abstract.

MC Tristanastrophe RMX by Level1
Great drawing as usual, the background, which is very professional looking, does not work with this image. The casting of a ground shadow on the flat “wall” is an optical aberration that my eye can’t reconcile. The sword in particular stands out as a problem because of how you placed into the flattened shatter piece.

Superman by Hughes
Not your best… Your work generally shows a higher degree of skill than this.

Batman by Sonic1002
Very impressive for Paint… actually it’s just impressive, well done.

JLA vs. Squadron Supreme by bearbot
Wow! Your last two posts have been heroically ambitious. The only real problems that I can see are the placement of Batman’s, and GL’s heads. Fantastic piece!

Batgirl by fanboy1171
Great work… nitpick - Her eyes could be a little sharper to match the rest of the image.

Batman Begins by dsimpsons1
The only thing I’ll add is that you did a good job on the bat-signal.

Shi by kevin newburn
You have a wonderfully clean and distinct style. I can see why everyone wants to color your work. Two problems: The line of the neck that connects to the collarbone is anatomically incorrect. That line crosses from the exterior at the jaw to the interior at the collarbone. Then there’s her left hand. These things really pop out when someone is as good as you are.

90's Cartoon Rogue by MaidenRaine1300
Very cartoony and cute… Good job.

Ice Time by trekkie
Very cool (no pun intended)… I can hear the cold crackle as he transforms.

Ghost Rider by DarrenJSeeley
I think you may need to work larger. The thumbnail looked awesome. A lot of the pixelation issues went away at that size.

The Phoenix by mahsess
This is flat and odd looking, but somehow it works for me. It is sort of disturbing and I like it. Technically I’m sure there could be some improvements, but it still I find it a compelling image.

Spider V Octopus by ali786
This is the first image I have ever seen that makes Doc. Ock look scary. You have transformed him into a monster. Totally freeking awesome.

The Shadow of Yesterday by devilbunny
Great detail and color… This has a real classical feel.

Hellbrat by Adi Darda
Fantastic Job… The only thing wrong with this is he proportionally younger than a teenager. Otherwise it’s damn near as good as it gets.

The thumb didn't show up on my Safari browser; I went over to IE and now I can see it.

Anyway, thanks again.

Bigger canvas, smaller size characters eh? Maybe when I find my nitch I start doing groups.

Tigra Pencil Sketch by KLA 1 -- Really nice work on this and I love the fur work. One minor thing is I think the feet may be a bit small for the overall size and the back one would have a slight arch in the middle instead of being completely flat.

Quasar by Nickice -- Much more vibrant color work on this one I do have to say I would love to see you branch out beyond the colored pencils.

Mc Tristanastrophe Rmx by Level1 -- Another nice wallpaper in the series. I really wish I understood your art notes better so I could comment more.

Superman by Hughes -- Decent cut and paste (I'm assuming due to lack of art notes) but the lighting and colors are all over the place and the quality on the base images is pretty iffy.

Batman by Sonic1002 -- Daaaaym! Great work for Paint

Jla Vs. Squadron Supreme by bearbot -- Great scene work. Couple of minor bits... Not sure why but WW's face seems aligned oddly to me but that could just be the body position of the original. And again though it may be a result of the base pic Supes' left arm seems awfully thin in comparison to the right one. And though I know it is the real character name I will never be able to take a character named "Wizzer" seriously.

Batgirl by fanboy1171 -- Very nice piece. A bit more in the way of art notes would be appreciated but I have to say I really like this piece. As for the torso thing that B mentioned I think it is the area underneath her right (screen left) arm its about twice as thick as it should be but that is the only real thing that sticks out to me and I really like the atmospheric (AKA colored) highlights

Batman Begins by dsimpsons1 -- I have to agree with pretty much everything B said. The cowl is nicely done but doesn't really fit with the photographic appearance of the rest of the piece. And the lighting on each head shot is so varied it really makes them all stand out as separate bits rather than part of a whole.

Shi by kevin newburn -- Gorgeous piece... I really like the stance on this one and the hair is just wonderful.

90's Cartoon Rogue by MaidenRaine1300 -- Your sis does make a nice Rogue and I really can't add anything to B's comments so I'll just say heyla and welcome to the DCG.

Ice Time by trekkie -- Cool piece... pun intended http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gifand yes I know it was already done Seriously though very nice I have to agree with B that a fade or a wipe in (starting from the edges and moving to the center of the torso might have worked a bit better and personally I would have liked a frame or two more of fully iced before it went back to the beginning. Still overall very nice.

Ghost Rider by DarrenJSeeley -- Nice piece but I'm not sure about the filters. I can't make out exactly where you used them but the top of the head/flames seems a bit strange to me and the texture on the cheeks and jaw of the skull make it look like hammered gold.

The Phoenix by mahsess -- I like the costume design but the pic overall is rather flat. Like B suggested I would say take a look at the Art School section of the site for some really great tutorials.

Spider V Octopus by ali786 -- Very sweet piece and I really like the atmosphere of it. The only other thing I'll add is I love the triple shadow on Spidey sort of giving him the requisite arachnid 8 arms if you count his own.

The Shadow Of Yesterday by devilbunny -- YAY its a Devilbunny piece. I love the costume and character designs and I love the Dog Dude. And the light from the moon is great. One little thing I have to ask though... Based on the positioning of the moon and her body where is the light on her leg coming from?

Hellbrat by Adi Darda-- AWESOME debut piece and I love the humor of it. I can't gush any better than B did and he said everything I would much better than I could so I'll just say DITTO to what he said and Welcome to the DCG.

Looking back right after I submitted it, I realized it needed some adjustments, but for a first time I think it worked well. I'm going to listen to suggestions here and do a version 2 soon.

LaughingBear
08-25-2004, 11:40 PM
Well, I was going to submit this this morning, but the powers that be just seemed to be working against me (I would've been second on the list http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/frown.gif) luckily I was able to save most of it before every thing crapped out on me, so here's the finished product.

Tigra pencil sketch by KLA 1: This is a nice drawing. Very nice fur (Guess that comes from the wild life photog part of you) The only thing I would do is clean up the scan a bit, like the shadow on the left hand edge of the page. You could do this with the eraser tool, &* or the brightness contrast tool, but all in all I like this a lot.

**** Quasar by Nickice: I like your style, but I also think you should consider a change in medium, like water colors, or art markers. And the suggestion I make to any young artist who loves comix, is find yourself a copy of "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way" it will change your life, I know it did mine. Nit picks: only two, first, you seem to have changed blues in mid stream while coloring the cape which is a tad distracting, & second (& this is only if you have some kind of art program) cleaning the blemishes off of scanned work (like eraser marks) makes them look one hundred percent better.

MC Tristanastrophe RMX by Level1: The stuff you've been posting here looks very professional, I just can't tell what you're tacking credit for ...do you do the drawings? manip the drawings? Or do you primarily work on the backgrounds, which are very groovy, don't get me wrong. I just can't make heads or tails of your art notes, could you explain a little more for those* (few I'm sure) of us who are less computer literate.

*** Superman by Hughes: Uummm...Art notes would help, like isn't that Alex Ross' Superman you used? There's an odd line above his left hand, & on the jacket sleeve aswell, if it's supposed to look like a rip in the poster it worked, if not...& some of the skin texture looks a tad rough somehow. Not to sure about the casting of Supes, but who knows, I nearly choked when I first heard that Michael Keaton was going to play Bat Man. This isn't intended to be harsh, I've just seen you do better work.

* Batman by Sonic1002: This is really nice for paint, it looks like it took patience. I would've made the costume a bit darker, but that's just me, this is good.

*** JLA vs. Squadron Supreme by bearbot: DUDE! This is just Kool! I think it worked out very nicely as a whole. The only nit pick I have is that G.L.'s body looks a little "warped" somehow. This makes me want to try a scene.

**** Batgirl by fanboy1171: Very groovy!...I like it. Art notes...& feet, maybe.

**** Batman Begins by dsimpsons1: This is a good concept, I think. I love the mask, & the cape, but it's either to painty for the face, or the face is to sharp for the costume, & Watanabe/Ra's facial hair could be a tad softer looking. The layout is kool, but I, myself would have put the signal on the other side of Bat's head for a little more balance. The Scarecrow BTW looks very kool.

**** Shi by kevin newburn: WOW...Very kool, yeah this just begs to be colored. Mind if I give it a shot?

**** 90's Cartoon Rogue by MaidenRaine1300: Welcome to the DCG...Good start. Practice makes perfect.

**** Ice Time by trekkie: Kool http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/biggrin.gif effect, I wouldn't know* how to do something like this. The only problem I see is the area radiating out from his left shoulder could use a bit more clean up, other then that, it looks good to me.

**** Ghost Rider by DarrenJSeeley: Kool pic, &...yeah it really looks like the flesh is burning off of his face. The scull looks a tad large, & the chain on his left shoulder doesn't seem to match the rest of the pic. Otherwise this works for me.

The Phoenix by mahsess: Nice costume design, but the piece seems unfinished to me...i.e. more definition, & detail on the body. The arms, rather than glowey, look washed out, & maybe some brighter colors would be nice aswell. It's a good start, it just needs more work.

Spider V Octopus by ali786: This is a very kool piece. I particularly like the menacing look of Doc Oc. I just wonder how you did it. Did you do it in pencil, & scan it first? Or is it all digital from scratch? are there poser elements? And lastly, when you say 3/d does that mean when I put on a pair of red, & blue card board glasses that these guys are gonna jump out at me? (heh! That would be kool http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/biggrin.gif)

The Shadow of Yesterday by devilbunny: Wow...the dream of dreams...to be published, & paid...Not to sound like I'm sucking up, but I don't think you've submitted a bad piece of art (that I've seen) Always very professional, & I love the punky gothic style. I look forward to your work. (Okay, enough gushing...NEXT!)

Hellbrat by Adi Darda: Does any body here remember Hot Stuff the Li'll Devil? What a little bad @$$ Somethin' tells me this kid could mop the floor with him...Yeah...hhnff..hhnnff...& he could kick axl's butt too...yeah..."nuff said.

Well that's my second URI ever, I promise I'll do more of these. I know it's an important part of the process.

Tigra Pencil Sketch by KLA 1- I really liked this sketch! The fur looks amazing. I like the stripes and her face is pretty. I think you did a very good job on this.

Quasar by Nickice- I like the colors. I think the position of his eyes needs to be moved.

Mc Tristanastrophe Rmx by Level1- I like his face and hair! The shadow though a little off though. Hmmm... Or maybe it's just kinda an optical illusion thingy. I'm not sure.

Superman by Hughes- The casting is cool! I would fix the lighting on the characters so they're all in sync.

Batman by Sonic1002- Green eyes! Nice.

Jla Vs. Squadron Supreme by bearbot- This is a great scene. I always love seeing your work and this picture proves why. It takes a huge amount of effort to create a scene and it shows here. Everything looks very good.

Batgirl by fanboy1171- Great coloring! Some of the image tends to blur but I still really like this pic. Nice job.

Batman Begins by dsimpsons1- I like the night sky and the bat signal looks good. I'd work on matching the lighting on the characters' faces.

Shi by kevin newburn- I love this pic! I love your drawings, Kevin. (As a matter of fact I'm looking at the beautiful Gambit pic you sent me as I type.) This would look great colored, but I think it also stands on its own in black and white.

90's Cartoon Rogue by MaidenRaine1300- Aw, she's so cute! Are you new here? I'm assuming you are, so I'd like to welcome you to the wonderful world that is the DCG. Adding shadows and highlights is a start to make your pic go from cartoony to somewhat realistic.

Ice Time by trekkie- This is wicked cool! I love animated stuff! Awesome.

Ghost Rider by DarrenJSeeley- The fire effect looks pretty neat!

The Phoenix by mahsess- It's a good start. Add some shadows and highlights. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

Spider V Octopus by ali786- Awesome!!!! The lighting is very good, something I wish I could improve in. Nice job.

The Shadow Of Yesterday by devilbunny- Beautifully colored and drawn, as always!

Hellbrat by Adi Darda- He's sooooo cute. A little troublemaker, for sure! lol

That's a great attitude to have. We all were new here once and have our original crappy pics to prove it. There are some wonderful tutorials on this site. If you are using PSP, I'd start off with Robbo's Storm tutorial. I will explain basics to you and get a feel for manipulating. There's also Strangefish's and Marcelo's tutorials which are excellent and better for Photoshop or Corel. And if you ever need any help there are many artists here, including myself who'd love to help you. Welcome to the DCG!

Like Amy Karas said, most of the shadow, and sword placement was done that way for optical illusion, and "trickery" on the eyes. It works, but is not likable by all.
