Y'know, if you want to read UIRs, you could try doing them yourselves sometime... Lead by example, so to speak? We don't get anywhere near enough of them sometimes...

Okay, here y'go.

Alba As Sue Richards In Ny by KLA 1
It's okay. The hair doesn't look particularly realistic. This is partly because real blonde hair isn't actually yellow, and partly because the recolour has washed out all the shadows and highlights. There's also an outline around it. The costuming's decent, but rather painty, and the 4 doesn't fit the shape of her body at all. The invisibility effect's okay, though she's more transparent than invisible.

Opposite Poles by Nickice
Good drawing, as always. The arms are different lengths though. The colouring is good as well, but once again it's inconsistent, much of the bottom part of the pic seems to not be properly coloured.

Mc Adorastrophe Rmx by Level1
Cool wallpaper, as usual, though I still have yet to decipher your art notes.

The Film That Should Have Been by Hughes
Oh, dear God. I know you're the Prinze of Darkness and all but... I think the actual casting was fine. Anyway, pretty good piece, Freddie's way blurry. Oh, and... art notes please.

Kingdom Come Superman by Sonic1002
Art notes please. Good piece, but blurry indeed. I'm not sure the blur works. The belt is rather jagged, and the S shield is noticeably sharper than the rest. The grey hair at his temples looks quite fake, very flat and painty. You could maybe check out dperceful's hair tutorial.

Jla Evolution by sickboy_ukuk
A bit too big, I think, there's a lot of pixellation. Nice manipping, nice colouring. WW's mouth is really washed out, Captain Marvel's is very lopsided (probably true in the original, but I had to mention it), and Flash's head looks quite squashed. Also, the shiny boots on Bats and Supes stick out a bit much in comparison to the rest of their costumes.

Eros A.k.a. Starfox by sterpazook
Welcome to the DCG! Pretty good piece, though the posterization doesn't really work for me. Oh, and... why isn't the artist posting this him/herself?

Justice For All! by WormyT
Welcome to the DCG! Pretty good debut. However, art notes would be greatly appreciated. Some really odd casting here... Costuming's okay, though MMH's red strap thingies look as though they're part of his skin. The colouring's all a bit too uniform, and the shadows are washed out in spots making it look flat -- most obviously with Aquaman's glove. Oh, and Stiller's head is huge.

Dark Phoenix by kev_incal
Quite cool. I dunno how long you've been working on watercolours, but you're a way better painter than I am. (Of course, I'm abominably lazy when it comes to advancing my craft in the "traditional" visual arts.) This has very nice colours, the flames look great. Nice hair also, and good work on Phoenix herself. That said, her head seems a touch big. And her hand's on backwards!

Grrrr-illa! by fanboy1171
Damn cool! Very damn cool indeed. Is this all done by hand, or was there some digital work involved as well? Great work throughout, particularly the hair. The blue highlights stick out a bit much to my eye, and some of the colouring is similar -- I think it would work better if it was blended together more. This is most obvious in the horns, where it's blue, brown, orange, white and yellow, each colour being basically distinct and separate. More blending would IMO make the piece look more realistic.

Jenna As Emma by Spiderman620815
Damn. Nice work, as usual. The linework is indeed very thin though, it's quite difficult to make out anything in some areas. The shading of her face seems a bit odd, the upper right corner seems too dark to my eye.

New School Mystique by kevin newburn
Yeah, those covers to Mystique are hot. Drop dead gorgeous, even. This, anyhow, is good, though you've certainly done better. The costume's nice, but her head's weird... it looks to be too big, as are the eyes, and the hairline's too high up, which makes the shape look even more off. It looks sort of squashed overall.

Legion 3084 by bearbot
Whoa! That must have been a hell of a lot of work. Good piece. It's horribly cluttered, but that's sort of a given when you're doing a full-cast Legion pic, I guess. Good costuming throughout, very nice vibrant colours. I think Wildfire's my favourite of the lot, very nice work on that helmet. Some of the Frankensteining gets a bit iffy, with mismatched skintones (ie Phantom Girl), and very odd anatomy (ie, Cos' shoulder/neck area), but it's mostly quite good. Thumbs up.

Scirocco: Son Of Storm And Forge by Shaylinn
Very nice piece, as usual. I really like the sand, it's very nicely done. Costuming's nice, particularly the edges. Some wrinkles might be nice, though. The hair is very nicely done, it looks great. The eyebrows seem rather more iffy, I'm not quite sure why. Like I said though, good work overall.

Tyhpoid Mary by Psylockegirl
I'd say this is the best pic you've yet done. Nice colours throughout, particularly the white half of the face, the eyes and the lips. Nice work on the hair as well, though its too dark for the most part. Other nitpicks: bits are blurry, most obviously the white half of the nose and the base of the finger. The curve of the face paint is odd, I'd think that from straight on like this, there shouldn't be a curve. The edges of the eyebrow on the white half of the face are too solid; I'd have made that eyebrow darker as well. Finally, the fishnets don't conform to the shape of her hand at all. You should really either use the displacement filter if you have it, use more complex textures (realistic ones, not standard patterns like grids, etc) or else do textures by hand. It's more time consuming, but the results really are worth it. Oh, and you might want to correct the spelling!

Kabuki Teaser Poster by mahsess
It's okay. The colours are all rather flat, except for the shading at the edges of the mask. It'd be nice if this had more depth. Much the same thing is true of the logo. The actual design thereof is great, but again, the colours are very flat.

Re: Grrrr-illa

This was done using a mechanical pencil & digital coloring. I agree that the coloring could use improvement. The hair was done with the photoshop "grass" brush(see brush selections)
and all coloring was layered on top of the original sketch and smudged with the finger tool. Topped off with canvas texturing.

Alba as Sue Richards in NY by KLA 1
I like this image it’s a little flat but it’s good.

Opposite Poles by Nickice
Wow… what happened here? I have been telling you to clean up your scans, but I think I made an incorrect assumption. Are you photographing your drawings or using some type of metallic media? Those are the only things I can guess would wash out your image like this. Regardless it’s time for you to graduate to a new medium. Give up the colored pencils and maybe try watercolors or pastel. The things you are trying to do are too subtle for colored pencils.

MC Adorastrophe RMX by Level1
Great drawing… Ok wallpaper

The film that should have been by Hughes
Hee hee hee…

Kingdom Come Superman by Sonic1002
Good idea… that could benefit from some detail.

JLA evolution by sickboy_ukuk
There is something warpy with all of their heads. Supes and Shaz’s chests are oddly rounded and full. Overall this image is pretty good.

Eros a.k.a. Starfox by sterpazook
The colors are very vibrant and well used, but this style always looks too paint by numbers to me.

Justice For All! by WormyT
Odd and Hilarious… I love the goofball casting of Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson.

Dark Phoenix by kev_incal
Strong start... You have some really nice subtle touches through out this piece. The anatomy could use some work, particularly the proportions. (B – I am assuming that is the pinky finger not the thumb which is not visible).

GRRRR-illa! by fanboy1171
Very nice, I thought this had been done in pastels until I read your response. I love the excellent use of the grass brush. Fantastic.

Jenna as Emma by Spiderman620815
This is pretty good, but could have been awesome if you had committed to some darker tones. You have some real drawing skill that is almost unseen.

new school mystique by kevin newburn
Very cool… Great work on the hair, clothes, and boots. The only problem for me is the angle of the gun doesn’t match her hand position.

Legion 3084 by bearbot
This is a cool and ambitious piece. There are some flat spots and some misplaced frankesteined parts, but an excellent image overall.

Scirocco: Son of Storm and Forge by Shaylinn
That is a really cool sand effect. The image is visually very strong. He pops off the background. The text kind of is a distraction though. Maybe a different font or forgoing the use of a dropshadow would have been better.

Typhoid Mary by Psylockegirl
Love those eyes… That makeup line off center really bugs me though.

Kabuki Teaser Poster by mahsess
Very basic looking… The Kabuki text graphic is too pixelly (you should be working larger than what you intend to display).

doesn't everyone get tired of the same 4 opionions. guess not.

select uir

alba: nice recolor. the hiar came out more sandy blonde than blonde, but still have to give you credit for attempting a recolor and not just settling on slapping on some yellow. the change from invis to normal is a little drastic, i could see that being a more of a faded effect. nice work.

the film that should have...: this would have been a comic book movie classic.....................for me to poop on!

starfox: there's a character i totally forgot about. nice painty look...more art notes please.

phoenix: is it just me or is watercolours comparable to photoshop? i tried watercolours under the orders of my therapist (something about OCD and ADD, she wanted me to be more patient) and i was amazed at the subtle layering that goes on in the process. anyway....i'm terrible at it...your doing fine work here.

grrr-illa: see you said grass brush and BAM....i totally see that in the hair now. really nice work. i think towards the bottom of the piece the hair looks more bushy and not as defined....but it's still great work. monkey with horns....how cool would life be if we had some monkeys with horns in it?

new school: i love meyhew covers. i like the attitude in the face. i'm just going to say it.....i'd like it to have a little more action to it. guns pointed, blazing, etc...just something to spiff it up. beautiful work.

legion: thats alot of people that i dont know. it ought to be a deodorant commercial with as many people that have their hands raised http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif . nice work....anyone who puts this much into a manip deserves the praise.

Scirocco: nice work. i like the costume...very nice. maybe a little stronger lighting on the edges of the costume would make them pop off the skin a little more...then again that could have been lost in compression. i like the power effect...i wouldn't know where to go with an earthy power...but you have a good result here.

typhoid mary: very nice and glamorous. nice in tight shot, and very well done on the clean up. the hair is nicely done and the eyes are hypnotic. the curve of the white line causes the face to look wonky....like B suggested a straighter line would help that, but i understand your thought process with it. i like the glove...patterns are a pain to wrap. put that pattern on your finger...see how it wraps and stretches to conform to your finger...just some subtle stretching goes a long way. this is by far your best work to date. it is also my favorite pic today....great work. i have watched you post here for a long time and i have seen your progression....you have made great strides in your work and should be very proud.

Selective UIR:

Alba As Sue Richards In Ny by KLA 1- Nice, but as of this moment, I'm going to make doing a brown haired movie Alba Invisible Woman pic my priority.

Justice For All! by WormyT- Great pic, but the very idea of that makes me shudder.

Legion 3084 by bearbot- Favorite pic of the day. Wow. That has to have been tough.

Sorry, I'm lazy. Good work, overall.

Alba As Sue Richards In Ny by KLA 1 -- The hair ends up looking a bit green to me and very flat. The costume isn’t bad but a bit flat and the lightning doesn’t really match the background which makes her stand out rather than seem a part of the pic.

Opposite Poles by Nickice – Nice drawing. The proportions side to side are a hair off as B mentioned and her eyes are a bit offline.

The Film That Should Have Been by Hughes – Not even going to go there.

Kingdom Come Superman by Sonic1002 – Not a bad piece and I really like the atmosphere. One thought on the blur it would have worked better if you did a full on motion blur to have him coming towards the screen and adapted the cape to follow that line instead. And the top line of the cape seems like it should have a bit more flow to it, it seems a bit stiff for fabric.

Jla Evolution by sickboy_ukuk – These are fun. Two little things I noticed WW’s mouth seems odd and I don’t know if the ears on Bats cowl really works

Eros A.k.a. Starfox by sterpazook – Welcome to the DCG. Are you Candra? If not why is she(?) not posting this. Either way very cool painting piece and its neat that you put the original next to the finished product.

Justice For All! by WormyT – Welcome to the DGC. Beyond the comments made by B I don’t have any other critiques and I have to say this was good for a laugh.

Dark Phoenix by kev_incal – Very nice piece I really like the blending of her hair into the fire.

Grrrr-illa! by fanboy1171 – Very sweet piece. I love the use of the grass brush… and the detail and the shading on the horns.

Jenna As Emma by Spiderman620815 – Nice drawing if it is light as you mentioned and nice choice of pose for Emma.

New School Mystique by kevin newburn – Another cool piece. Dunno if it is just my eyes but it seems like her breasts are a bit low on her chest.

Legion 3084 by bearbot – Whoa that is one heck of a manip. Just the amount of Frankensteining is mindboggling. Very cool

Scirocco: Son Of Storm And Forge by
Shaylinn – MINE… I swear I do wrinkles. I guess they are so subtle that they get lost in compression I will definitely work on that. B- I do agree that the eyebrows are definitely more iffy than the hair I couldn’t quite get the edges cleaned off as easily as I did with the hair. Biohaz_Daddy – The text is there with the intention of this being part of a series of trading type cards so I wanted something distinctive and it was used for all the previous pieces. I think this one may have been standout because of his name and the colors I used. Dan – Thanks for the nice words I just realized I forgot to do the final shadowing on the black DOH! Thanks again for the reviews

Tyhpoid Mary by Psylockegirl – Really sweet piece and definitely front page worthy. The only thing I would suggest is what B and Dan already mentioned the curved line on the face and I have to say I LOVE the eyes.

Kabuki Teaser Poster by mahsess – I like the simple clean look of this. But the text at the bottom seems very pixilated and out of place with the simple lines of the mask. Just the Kabuki font in a single color or even nothing beyond the 2005 would work just as well in my opinion.
