View Full Version : UIR 09/05/2004
Really early update today. I just wanted to thank MB for managing to finish the second part of the Original Concept swap... and a mere four-and-a-half months late, too! http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/biggrin.gif Don't worry though, I do like it. Full UIR later.

White Queen by Nickice
Not bad but I have yet to see any real evidence that you read the UIRs.
Voltronastrophe RMX by Level1
Noooooooooooooooooooo!
Gambit by MaidenRaine1300
This is a big improvement over your previous work, well done. The way you have used his hairline to cross over the headgear looks unnatural. There should also be a cast shadow from his hair.
Mystique by ShadowHusk
Nice… I like this version of Mystique myself. In your image the figure is a little blurry while the background is sharp. As a result they don’t appear to belong together. The biggest problem though is the hand on the divan looks like an empty glove folded over. You do have some good coloring and the whites look believable.
B's Eve by MilleniumBum
Very nice… Good work all over this one. The spandex looks good. The background and the tattoo are awesome. I love the diplay of whatever kind of power that is at the bottom. It looks great. The only thing wrong here, and it really draws the eye, is the fishnet. It doesn’t quite conform to the figure. It looks rather flat.
DavesWellingSupermanFlag by Temporal Dave
Overall this is a good effort… It’s a bit blurry but that probably wouldn’t have been noticeable if you had reduced the resolution.
SuperGirl - Peaceful Summer by localhero
Beautiful… I love it. I can’t even find anything to nitpick. This image really captures the classic SuperGirl feel.
Lady Green Goblin by xavix
This is one hot goblin… Your choice of background is hot too. Who did it?
Hellgirl 082104 by TheMan
The source images are great. How you altered them… ehh.
Sauron by DarrenJSeeley
Fantastic… I would have like to see more detail work on this particularly around the eye and mouth. This is a really cool piece that demonstrates your artistic sensibility quite nicely.
Legion of Substitute-Heroes by kev_incal
I can’t even come up with a suitable adjective on this one for you. I have always loved Night Girl for some reason, and you have made what I am certain will stand as the best manip of her ever. Paris Hilton as Infectious Lass, you’re killin’ me. Alright I could keep gushing forever. I am going to point out a couple of things but I want you to know that I feel unworthy while doing it. The highlight on Chlorophyl’s hood is too round. It should conform more to the shape of his head. The power display of Stone Boy comes off as flat and I don’t understand where the shadow on his shoulder is coming from. Wait I know how about Frickin’ Awesome!
Quality Time...Osborn Style by Spiderman620815
This one is too light to be this small. I can only assume that a lot of the detail I can’t see is lost for this reason. I downloaded it and blew it up just so I could see it better. That said… The layout does work for me. The spirit of Harry is too big and becomes separated from the images narrative. If I hadn’t read your art notes I would have assumed that the figure overhead was Norman not Harry and that it represented the madness inside of him.
The Bat by Biohaz_Daddy
This one is mine.
DCG Excalibur: Rachel Summers by Lady D
Amazing piece… Bloodlesstoy is Rachel Summers. The only suggestion I would have made is to brighten the Phoenix effect a little, it looks a bit like smoke. I want to see a facial tattoo version now.
Ariel - Legacy of Kain by Psylockegirl
My comments are for the larger version. The smaller one lost so much it just isn’t fair to talk about it since it doesn’t truly represent your work. I just love the amount of detail in this piece and for me it’s what makes it. It reminds me of an old silent horror film that was colorized with blood and was left to dry until it turned brown. You have really evoked a creepy feeling from me with this. Great job!
Superman lo-tech by LaughingBear
This is what Billy Ray Cyrus would look like as Superman. The profile and cape are excellent. The anatomy is a little comic book learned looking. The proportions are good. I do not like the costume design that much though it is done well.

White Queen by Nickice
It's okay, though you have done better. And yeah, I don't really get any impression that you're improving.
Voltronastrophe Rmx by Level1
God, another one? Sorry, but I'm gonna stop UIRing until we get something different. It gets boring saying the exact same comments over and over again, y'know?
Gambit by MaidenRaine1300
Yup, a definite improvement. Nice to see you doing something different than the Paint stuff. The hair's very nice, except for the hairline (as Biohaz said). The shading on the cowl doesn't really match the shape of his head.
Mystique by ShadowHusk
Not bad at all. The whites are a bit flat, but whites are hard. I quite like the skin tone, though. Biohaz points out the main problems, especially that glove.
B's Eve by MilleniumBum
For those who don't recognize this character, I created her for the Original Concept Swap theme day we did in mid-April (thus, four and a half months ago!). My original pic (plus her bio) is here (http://www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3?f_id=15098). It's probably my current favourite of the pics I've done, which is why I'm pimping it. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif Anyway, I really like this. I'm biased, cause I created her, but I do think it's really good stuff. I have to agree with Biohaz that the the fishnets don't quite curve properly, especially around the edges. But I've done the damn things often enough to know how difficult they are. The tattoo's great, better than in my version. The energy's great as well. Great background overall, actually. Thumbs up.
Daveswellingsupermanflag by Temporal Dave
Good frankensteining. But, yeah, the face is a bit blurry, and the body and background are really blurry.
Supergirl - Peaceful Summer by localhero
Beautiful! Very cool look, I love it. It certainly makes a change from the usual photomanips. My only nit is that the white streaks tend to overpower the actual image here and there, ie her chest, and there's a lot of "spillage" (so to speak) around the skirt.
Lady Green Goblin by xavix
Great manipping, great background, but art nots would be nice. The highlights are a bit overdone.
Hellgirl 082104 by TheMan
Welcome to the DCG. Decent enough debut, but it's just frankensteining and a colour change. The eyes are rather flat. And please, give us art notes. I shouldn't need to dig up the base images to get some idea of what you did.
Sauron by DarrenJSeeley
Nice. I don't recall seeing a pic of Sauron in the gallery to date. This is nice but, as always, it's all rather blurry. I like the skin texture, though.
Legion Of Substitute-heroes by kev_incal
Isn't Infectious Lass an actual Legionnaire now in post-boot continuity? Or a Legionnaire in training, anyway. Of course, with Mark Waid around the corner God alone knows where things stand. Anyway... awesome piece, as always. Great costuming, great power effects, awesome background, etc, etc. I should really just come up with a standard template for your UIRs, man, everything you do is similarly awesome. Outside Biohaz's nitpicks (he's especially right about the stone texture, it has no depth whatsoever), Infectious Lass' hand and arm looks a bit weird, sort of stretched.
Quality Time...osborn Style by Spiderman620815
I agree with Biohaz, this is way too small, it's impossible to make out any details. I think B&W drawings should easily be postable here in larger versions, Kev Newburn always manages it. I can't think of anything to add to Biohaz's comments.
Dcg Excalibur: Rachel Summers by Lady D
Ehhh... It's not bad or anything, but you've done better. The good stuff: the costuming is beautiful. I mean, damn, that is a fine rubber texture. Good frankenstening as well, and nice work on the hair. Cool background also. The bad stuff: first, the hands look really Posery, and the lighting of the right / screen left one is a bit odd. Second, the power signature should really be a lot brighter. The texture is nice, but it's still very dull and lifeless. I'd say ignore the filters, just use Dan's tutorial in the art school. The result would be far better.
The Bat by Biohaz_Daddy
Cool piece. Damn cool piece, even. You do good stuff, Biohaz. You're certainly one of the best new artists to join the DCG of late. If not for android, you'd be a shoo-in for Best New Artist in the awards. His head looks awesome, great work. The lighting is great overall, very moody. The redesign I'm not a huge fan of, but that's merely a matter of personal taste. My main nitpick here is that everything except the head is quite blurry and could really use some sharpening. Other than that, this is awesome.
Ariel - Legacy Of Kain by Psylockegirl
Damn! Quite awesome, your best pic ever by some considerable distance. The textures and details here are jaw-droppingly astounding. Well creepy. I think the bright bits (especially the skull) are a bit too bright, but the lighting is otherwise great, that's some wonderful use of shadow. Overall, just a beautiful, wonderful, Essexy piece of work. Essex is my favourite artist in the gallery, in case you were wondering. Favourite pic of the day.
Superman Lo-tech by LaughingBear
That cape is great. And the profile is very nicely done as well. Some of the musculature is indeed a bit weird, but I don't honestly see any major problems with this. I'm not a huge fan of the design either though. Uh... that's it, really. I guess I should have just said I agree with everything Biohaz said. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

OOOPS! Sorry about that one everyone (yall)! I forgot about that one....
Like I said, all of the CATASTROPHIES Series images were all uploaded up at the same time. And they are getting approved in the order that I uploaded them.
I forgot about that one....I even went through my upload gallery to see if the Gokuastrophe RMX was the last one. I failed to catch this one. I started deleting the other 5 that would have been approved either this week or next.
I can attest and say that THIS ONE is the last one.
*running to his upload gallery....for checking....*

Hey...was going to do a UIR but am still really tired from the last few days, I still may later. If not I'm on the next 1, just a warning there will probably be another piece with this version of Supes, but that's the last big blue from me for a while...I know...I know, but geez, a guys gotta move on some time.
Self critique: I'm happy with the body, `specially his left hand, the arm it's attached to seems a little iffy tho'. I'm not happy with the face at all...'s probably why I included the profile, not sure tho', & I see after uploading, that I should've taken some of my own advice, & cleaned up the out line a bit.
O, & yes Biohaz, comix were (besides my grand father) my first influence, & teacher, & to be even more specific, I would have to say that John Buscema Was my anatomy influence, & teacher, even more so after I got my copy of How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way. ->whew<- Is that a run on sentence, or what?
Thanks B, & Biohaz. See y'all inna funny pages~ L.B.

And now it's time for something
completely diferent
1) White Queen by Nickice: Man she looks p!$$ed, & she is one chick you do not want to make mad. I mean...she can make you think that you are a piece of used Bazooka Joe that she just scraped of the bottom of her shoe. This is good, I like it, I can't wait 'till you have access to better software.
2) Voltronastrophe RMX by Level1: Heh...Voltron was one of my favs back in the 80s.
3) Gambit by MaidenRaine1300: I really can't add to what's already been said, except maybe....EXCELSIOR!!!
4) Mystique by ShadowHusk: Other than what B, & Biohaz have said, the skull on the belt is a bit flat, & unrealistic. I think that your last two pieces are better, on the other hand the skin is nicely done.
5) B's Eve by MilleniumBum: WOW!!! http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/supereek.gif This is my favorite of the day so far, nothing to add really, just words like...Dude!, & KOOL!
(BTW, B yours rocks aswell...I really dig the story.)
6) DavesWellingSupermanFlag by Temporal Dave: Kool, but...yup...wh@ they said. I like the spit curl tho'.
7) SuperGirl - Peaceful Summer by localhero: Very Kool. This really merges maniping with illustrating, I think it has a movie poster quality that harkens to the like of a lot of the Indiana Jones stuff, & some of the Star Wars stuff.
8) Lady Green Goblin by xavix: And then Spidey stopped suddenly, & said "Why are we fighting...?", & yeah...ART NOTES
9) Hellgirl 082104 by TheMan: Uummm...nothing to add really...O yeah, welcome to the DCG http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif
10) Sauron by DarrenJSeeley: Another nice piece, makes me want to see more.
11) Legion of Substitute-Heroes by kev_incal: I've said it before, I'll say it again, when I first found this site, it was you, & Welshcat that jumped out at me, & made me say..."How the frell do you do this stuff? I want to do it too!" And once again You have produced an awe inspiring work. So, I tried really hard to find a good nitpick, but all I could come up with was Stone Boy's pouch...it looks like just an extension of that same rock texture with an outline around it. Should it even be effected by his powers?
12) Quality Time...Osborn Style by Spiderman620815: Nuthin' I can say that ain't been said.
13) DCG Excalibur: Rachel Summers by Lady D: I've gotta thank B for covering the critical part so I can just say what a fine piece of art this is, she looks like you could reach out, & touch her...O...wait...I did find 1 small, but important (I think) nit. The spikes on her right arm seem to be floating about a centimeter or so away from the arm. I still think this is a beautiful work, that being said, can't wait for the rest.
14) The Bat by Biohaz_Daddy: The Bat has tracked his prey to the Gotham City dockyards. As he crouches atop a stack of cargo containers he strains every sense for a sign of his intended victim. Staring into the gathering fog, on a black night lit only by a sliver of moon, he knows that he has no gadget, or gizmo that can penetrate this murky gloom. But his instincts tell him that the one he seeks is close...very close.../ this is exactly what you were shooting for, "a moody and atmospheric piece" 'nuff said.http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/batman.gif
15) Ariel - Legacy of Kain by Psylockegirl: I definitely agree with B, & Biohaz, this is quite eye catching, & professional, for some reason it makes me think of my Apocalypse Now poster. I would definitely put this on my wall.
16) Superman lo-tech by LaughingBear: Yup...this's mine...
Wow...so much groovy art in one update. I love this place!!! Tune in next time, same bat time, same bat channel.

Laughing Bear, can you look at what you stated on number 16? Huh? Heh, you said earlier, you "remember the Voltron series back in the 80's or 90's".
Then you post it again in number 16.....
OK Dude! LOL!!!!
EDIT: OK...correction made! Ha, ha!
