Just wanted to say that, thanks to the efforts of Winterhawk and Matrixblur over at heromorph, I now have a copy of Photoshop (and Illustrator). [laughs maniacally]

And so, my question... I've been playing around a bit, and I don't foresee any great problems using it, but considering the sheer number of different options, filters, brushes, etc available, I'd like to find some sort good, fairly thorough reference to the program(s). I generally prefer to have one good manual/textbook kinda thingy (that's the student in me, I guess http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif) rather than to have to rely on tutorials for basic information about a piece of software.

So... anyone have any suggestions for a good book on Photoshop, or maybe point me towards a thorough website on it?

Thanks, all. And thanks again to Messrs. Hawk and Blur for their generosity.

IU learned a lot from tutorials, since they teach you how to do stuff in three or four steps...

That way, not only you learn how to do thos specifically things (chrome, gold, blode, metal, rust, etc) but you learn some tecniques and tools, that given time you can combine at your own free will!

If you want i can put here a list of my favourite tutorial sites

if you want to be really really really good i'd suggest just selling your soul in return for supreme photoshopic superiority (as with the likes of essex, marrow, android, etc.). if you just want to be kinda good, you can try the actual Adobe Photoshop tutorial book (different editions of the book for each version of photoshop) that comics with a CD rom. i actually bought one of these when i served on a jury trial to pass the time. you might even consider taking a class at a community college or community center...

this is the one i have my students use.

Photoshop at Lynda.com (http://www.lynda.com/products/books/pscshot/index.html)

i also recommend books by Bert Monroy. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/ref=pd_sim_b_1/103-1449428-2775833?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books&field-author=Bert%20Monroy)

i also recommend magazines called, Computer Arts and Photoshop User, likely at your local bookstore.

i am recommending stuff i have read and purchased. i've used the books and magazines above (i learned photoshop with a 4 hour tutorial from the Computer Arts magazine) and they worked for me. i'll send you an email of some of my favorite links.

Thanks, guys. I'll look around for these, try to buy whichever one looks best to me. Money's overrated, anyway. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/wink.gif
