Anyone have experience of know which hosting services are good? I'm finally going to make a move and register a domain name and try hosting a full blown website to try and promote my writing work, but I honestly don't know where to go and get the best bang for my buck.

I've used bravenet.com on and off for years to host "free" web pages but the URL's always suck and are too long to be easily typed in or remembered. Bravenet does of course have "premuim" hosting services - own the domain name for 1 year for $8.95 and hosting options for like $7 per month. I got a flyer a while back from godaddy.com with similar prices and servies, But I really want to see of there is something better out there.

I don't want to go the route of like - myspace or any of that, I want to own my domain name and be able to create a good quality site that I can use when submitting materials to agents, publishers and produders.

Any thoughts?:dunno:

I think it's hard to give a general answer regarding good web services, because there are a lot of issues to consider: How much space do you need? How much bandwidth do you expect to require per month? Do you need PHP? Perl? MySQL? Based on these factors, you could do a search e.g. on http://www.findmyhosting.com/ or http://www.hostsearch.com/ (use the advanced search).
