Written by Devin Zydel (19 Mar, 2006, 20:00)

THIS is the book I've been waiting for - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

Do you get the same benefit as the author if we preorder it off of Amazon, versus retail or the publisher? Does it matter?

If you go to http://www.jamesbondfanbook.com and click through an Amazon or purchase link, I get a (tiny) kickback. Other than that, I can't offer a discount. I'll see what happens when I have books.

I don't want a discount!

I just want to make sure that whoever I purchase it from isn't cutting you out of the deal.

Do you get a greater percentage if it is purchsed at the full price - versus the discounted price at Amazon?

Oh, I see. I get a percentage of the net, so it's based on the price at which it's sold. But sales are good. I am happy to see discounted sales. The numbers make me happy. :)

So are you going to sign a few copies and send them over to EON as gifts ? One to Daniel Craig, one each to Babs and Michael, one to Amy Pascal at Sony ???? Get yourself in there. Maybe get invited to a premiere, or asked to help write the DVD documentaries going forward ? A crack at some script ideas etc. ?

Maybe one to Raymond Benson too ? Any in you can get !

Screw discounts... I want an AUTOGRAPH! :D

Autographs will be available. Somehow. Probably I'll have to charge extra so I can ship autographed books.

Eon does not like unauthorized books. So much so, in fact, that they don't even let their people endorse or review unauthorized books.

For those readers far away, you could always print up some snazzy book plates and then personalize them. Then you only have to mail the bookplate (less postage) and the reader can stick it in their book. I don't know if that reduces the value of the autograph (not that anyone here would resell on E-bay, they'll all sleep with it under their pillows!), or makes it seem less "official," but it wouldn't require someone getting the book to you in person.

Wow. Great idea. I've talked to lots of authors about the inconvenience of shipping autographed books, and none of them have ever come up with that!

Hey, I was just dreaming things up to prepare for the day when my novel finally gets published to astonishing worldwide demand. :ohwell:

Whether Eon like them or not, I am sure they wouldn't say no to a free copy ! And hey, it might open another door. Nothing to lose.

Hey,

Being new to this little posting community I had no idea you were Deborah Lipp!

My brother (another big Bond fan) fwded your NY Times piece when it appeared months ago. I really enjoyed it and I look forward to the book.

Congratulations!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the article, Cooper. It was hard to write -- newspaper deadlines...wow.

I posted anonymously here and at other boards for several years, since 2000 I think. I only "came out" when the book was picked up.

Just to let y'all know, release is now scheduled for late June, not late May.

Okay, now the release date is September 30.

Sorry for the confusion. It just changed TODAY.

Is that gonna mess up the cruise?

My initial response was that it sucks worse than hot monkey vomit, but it does put you closer to the film's release.

Well, it was changed to be closer to the film. The cruise should still be fine.

I was just looking at Amazon earlier today to see if the book had been released yet (thinking about it being late June now) and then noticed your information here about it being late September. Oh well, in waiting I will appreciate it even more when I do obtain my copy!

Kara, will you possibly be making any book store appearances anywhere for a book signing?

By the way - - I LOVE the look of the new cover!!

I certainly hope to make book store appearances. They always help with sales and they're fun (if exhausting). I will try to emphasize local appearances, because my promotional budget isn't that amazing, but there will certainly be something in NYC.

The change in release date was to tie-in with a big Barnes & Noble promotion. I'm excited about that.

Thanks. I'm thrilled with the cover. I think it will help sales. Naked girls and guns do that.

Thanks for the additional information, Kara. And if I'm anywhere close to a NYC book store at the time of your appearance, I'll swing by with my copy! I'm so looking forward to getting my grubby hands on this book, you have no idea!!

Have a great weekend!
