I saw this tonight, and wasn't too impressed. It did have a certain charm, though, what with the casting.

A little off subject here, but is your avatar of Titan.

If I may ask, why Titan?

If I may ask, why Titan?
Because at the time I was thinking what to use, the Casini spacecraft started sending pictures back from there, and it just seemed cool to use a picture of one of Saturn's moons.

I for one, love it.

It didn't suck. It is kind of a thinking man's bank robbery/political intrigue/what the fuck? movie. It was just that I wouldn't describe it as "entertaining." Which means I personally just kind of kept wishing for it to get to the end as I was watching it. I have my own ideas when it comes to what constitutes a good or great movie, and this one didn't touch me there.

Actually, he considers it giving you the honor so he may expect payment instead.

Back on the movie... I enjoyed the hell out of it... until about ten minutes from the end.
That first 110 minutes or so is terrific fun; it has a fast, seventies-movie feel to it (more like "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" than "Dog Day Afternoon", though), it's got sharp performances and a good, cynical, New York sense of humour. And as long as the story revolves around the bank, it's highly enjoyable.
But then we get to that last ten minutes. And the resolution just lets all the suspense out of the film, and you walk out feeling a little disappointed. If they could've come up with a good, high-energy finale - and an ending that didn't make you realise that most of the characters were virtual ciphers - this might've been a really great film. As it is it's an entertaining near-miss.

I agree with your assessment. I give it a three stars, with some reservation. All in all, I liked it.
I also think Ebert was right about Plummer's character.
Why the Nazis? I kinda saw that early on. Why not have some other deal-with-the-devil in his past. He would have to be in his nineties, at least.
I saw this the night before I saw V for Vendetta, another flawed masterpiece. Interesting the similarities: both deal with alleged "terrorists," as well as the state's often ham-handed approach to same; both have a central character operating violently outside of the law in order to strike a blow against fascism; and in both cases, the protagonists wear masks and are completely unknown to the people trying to stop them or sympathize with them.
On a side note, I wish to point out that this is the third Clive Owen film I have seen in the theatre, the first two being King Arthur and Sin City. In all three cases, I was there with a date. And in all three cases, things never really progressed any further.
What is it with Clive Owen ruining my attempts at romance? Clearly this is a conspiracy. The ladies see him up there, suddenly ole' Spacey doesn't look as appealling.
Just an observation.... :ohwell:

Dude, use the spoiler tags. There are a lot of different backgrounds on here now that the white lettering just shows up as normal text and absolutely ruins the plot by some idiot giving something away.
["/spoiler"] (of course without the ")
That way you get the following:
[spoiler] Dumbasses that don't use the spoiler tags should be put on a three day ban until they learn better.

I aim to please.
Anyway, it was a good movie. Should have done better commercially.
I liked the ethnic humour--vintage Spike Lee.

I saw the movie and I thought it was awesome. Clive Owen and Denzel Washington did a great job in the movie. I love the story and it built the suspense so well. I really liked the ending despite what Tycoon said.

Kinda dragged on just a little, dontcha think? Is this becoming a new trend in films, multiple, interminable endings? Is this a manifestation of the ROTK effect?

I wouldn't say that it was better than V. Vendetta was pretty damn good.
That said, I enjoyed the hell outta Inside Man. I agree about the resolution, but getting there was so much fun that it didn't really bother me.
