Interesting, though I am not too sure I like the look of the guy playing blade. Almost like they are trying too hard.

Hm. Quite a decent trailer for a TV-scaled down version.
As a fan of the trilogy, I'll be watching it. :smirk:

Let's hope the Parental Discretion warning comes up before
every episode. :)

It'll be hard watching someone besides Wesley Snipes as Blade - but if it's done well enough, that can be overcome (just like others with multiple actors - like James Bond or Doctor Who). I'm a huge fan of the movies, so I'm looking forward to the TV series and hope it doesn't disappoint. Hopefully being on so late will allow them to come close to an R rating which I think is necessary to do justice to the violence that is going to be necessary to do it right.

Well, they are able to pull of the necessary violence that came naturally to Buffy and Angel - as far as detroying Vampires and blood and such, they should do fine with this one as well.

Spike has really turned up the advertising for this over the last week or so. Lots more commercials playing.

I have to say again, the actor here just makes me think

"Blade Light - half the calories of Regular Blade"

I sort of agree. However, Buffy/Angel were much more light hearted then the content in Blade. Blade by nature is much more violent and a much more serious take. So I do think that Blade will be tame...by Blade standards for the show.

Just a quick reminder the pilot airs tonight.

Here's to hoping for a good showing...

Okay. True dat. Sticky Jones is NOT Wesley Snipes.
But he does a decent job of filling the role, and I feel
comfortable following along for the ride.
The pilot was really good, considering the limited budget
that was used, and the standard TV downsizing from the
big screen approaches we're used to.
I loved the fact that it was rated TV-14, with blood flowing and
small cussing intact, staying true to the environment, nature
and world of Blade.
It's good to see a rollicking good vampire series again
since the sad and abrupt absence of Buffy and Angel,
so this will do for me quite nicely. In short, I'll be watching the
series with interest since for my money, it rocks.
As the series moves along, I will be more interested in learning
more indepth stuff into the mythology behind the twelve
clans of vampires. So far, only two have been mentioned.
What I also thought was super cool was the brief mention
of Marc Spector, aka MOON KNIGHT.
A cameo from him would absolute rock, and would be a nice fit
into Blade's universe, IMO.
I also liked how one of the protagonists becomes a vampire
into the clan's fold, and is now in a primed position to be Blade's
inside spy on the goings on with their serum developments.
And I have a sneaking feeling that this is only going to get better
as it goes along.

So if I have to give my personal rating for this one,
it'd a solid 3 stars, with a slight lean towards 3 1/2 stars.
The episode didn't knock my socks off to any great degree.
My expectations were low since it is television after all.
But with what they delivered, the potential to be greater is
definitely there.

Eh. It was okay. I wasn't overly impressed, but I'll watch a while longer.

I have to confess, the longer into each episode, the more I like it.
The storytelling continues to run strong, and thankfully, unpredictable.

It could have ended with a typical slugfest between Blade and Fritz,
but instead, he got his head unceremoniously got off with a metal
sign courtesy of Krista, only for her to have a wooden shard run
through her for her effort. That scene really did catch me off guard,
and what it serves for the characters was setup wonderfully.
The deeper Krista grows earning the clan's confidence, the more
valuable she becomes to Blade's goal of taking them down.
I loved the look on her face when she learned there were a total
of 12 houses. Very nice. :D

Despite criticisms of Tricky acting as Snipes acting as Blade,
my feeling is that naturally he will let go of that in time,
and turn the character into something his own.
I really believe by the end of the season, he'll come closer
to this than when he started.

Overall, the series looks great, and I love the new directions
they are taking it storywise.
Plus, I really love the angle of the vampire ash being used as a drug.
That puts the vampire not only as hunter, but prey.
You can tell the writers are up to some really good twists and
turns with the Blade mythos that will only get better with time.
As long as the momentum builds, I'll be eagerly waiting for each
ep as they come.

What I like about this so far, is that less attention is paid to the 'Blade' character than to the vampires. 'Sticky' Jones is a pretty awful actor to begin with, but add to that his less than athletic movements and you really start to wonder why they picked him in the first place.

He walks around with his shoulders up to his ears in just about every scene and looks fairly ridiculous. Honestly, I could with a whole lot less of this Blade in the series than we're seeing even now.

I gave up last week. Watched the pilot and first two episodes. I'd TiVoed the third (fourth eppie, I gues) and when I woke up early the next morning, I thought, "Oh, I've got to watch Blade today." And it wasn't an excited sort of thought, it was more of an "Ugh..." kind of thought, so I deleted it and removed it from my series list.

I wanted to like it. I like the mythology and the character, but Sticky doesn't work well enough for me, and the execution just isn't there.

Well, the season finale is coming up next Wednesday, and I have to admit,
I was impressed. And just as I thought at the beginning, Sticky Jones
finally loosened up his shoulders towards the end of the series, and NOW
is beginning to play Blade as his own character. He's not there completely,
but there is a contrast between his acting of the Blade character between
the first episode, and this last one. I love the fact that anyone in this series
can be killed off, keeping things unpredictable and on edge a bit.
I really enjoyed this series, and loved where it takes its characters over all.

Killing off the detective after all he went through kind of sucked, but when you think about it, how much farther could he have really gone?

I still have questions about the mythology between this series and the movies. The list of 12 houses referred to in the movies seems different than
what is referred in the TV series. The movies make no reference to a house of Chthon (a name that smells a bit Miskatonic, no?), so I'm a bit miffed as
to what all the houses are. Hopefully I can find a site somewhere that
spells it all out.

Also, I finally watched Blade III on DVD. Everyone and their kid brother has
been dissing this film right and left. While I agree that it's several steps below
what the first Blade delivered, I still enjoyed it. I couldn't help, however,
feel that Goyer should have rewritten the script another 5 or 6 more times
before considering it finished. There were moments of dialogue, if polished,
that could've come off far stronger than what was spoken. Oh well.

Cthon is a name of a demon used in marvel comic books as well. His most favorite appearance is when he posessed the scarlet witch in the avengers comic. i forgot what issue but john bryne drew both issues. and marvel universe handbook should have some kind of bio on him. if that helps any.

i think blade one the extras features has some kind of list of houses, i think whether it's what your looking for again:dunno:

:D i did a little research and it brought back some memories and new knowledge as well.
It turns out the demon chthon created the first vampires in the marvel universe, they were namor's mother's ancestors. and cthton influence has even more ties to blade because Blace used chthon's book called the Darkhold
(a way for him to return to earth's dimension after his confrontation with Atum, the god killer.) to gain more power.

So to answer your question the house of chthon is one of the first and most powerful ruling vampire house. called purebloods:jump2:
other of the varnaean ( the first vampire created by Cthton to defeat king Kull) line and othe unknown sources are the nosferatu, tryks, jumlin ,huskies, and others.

Here's some house clan info from the movies, thanks to Wikipedia.

House of Erebus
Erebus tribe families

Ashe

The Ashe Tribe are the most sensitive to those elements most traditionally used to combat vampires. Ultra violet rays, sunlight, silver and garlic are said to have a stronger effect on these vampires.

Cianteto

The Cianteto Tribe is from Mexico, supposedly raised from the dead by the same witches that gave Montezuma his immense power. A warrior caste, they have the strength of ten men and regenerate limbs lost in battle.

Dragonetti

The Dragonetti Tribe are influential sorcerers dating back to pre-Medieval times, who were reincarnated and returned to Europe. They consider themselves as the first pure bred vampires.

Faustinas

The Faustinas Tribe are believed to have gained their “pure blood” status by practicing Santaria. Along with physical strength, they also can control minds, matter and the elements. Faustinas can only be terminated with a silver stake though the heart and must also be decapitated or they will be reborn with more power than they possessed before. The House of Erebus has twelve members and eleven tribes, two seats being held by the Faustinas identical twin female leaders.

Kobejitsu

This marking signifies members of the Kobejitsu Tribe who are proficient assassins known as the Death Ninjas. Strong and agile possessing unusual stamina, the Kobejitsu can be identified by their red, bulging eyes. They are the only members of the House of Erebus that do not cast a shadow.

Lemure

The Lemure Tribe of Rome were originally evil spirits that inhabited corpses and turned the dead into immortal night stalkers. Known for their ability to seduce their prey, they are beautiful denizens of the dark and frequent underground raves and Goth clubs.

Ligaroo

This Ligaroo Tribe is from France. During the night, they shed their skin, turning into a ball of fire to methodically stalk their prey. They feed only from the jugular and are the only Tribe that hoards blood for use later.

Lobishomen

The Lobishomen Tribe are linked to werewolves from Brazil. It is believed that the original Lobishomen were killed by a werewolf and returned to the earth as a vampire. Given the number of deaths attributed to werewolves, the Lobishomen is the largest clan in the House of Erebus.

Pallintine

The Tribe of Pallintine hails from the Baltic region and are some of the wealthiest industrialists in the Vampire Nation. Their vast wealth has allowed them to blend into society somewhat invisibily.

Upier

The Upier Tribe are born with a full set of teeth and razor sharp fangs. Originally from Eastern Europe, these vampires are particularly lethal and feared because of their ability to hone their deadly skills at an early age.

Von Esper

The Von Esper Tribe are the most violent and ruthless members in the House of Erebus. They are efficient assassins and are easily swayed or involved when bloodshed is to be taken.

Now I have to wonder- just how many houses are there in Blade's universe? :dunno:

it sounds like it could be alot, like christain churches you technically believe in the same but you have many differents factions and like catholics, protestants and the baptist they are the strongest and even in them you have your sub factions.

i think the same can be said about the many vampire houses and since they are so many...maybe blade named these because they are the first 12 on his shit list.

Saw the season finale last night. It was.... good. Not great. Just good.
The battle between Markus and Blade seemed anti-climactic for some reason.

The idea of Markus getting taken out by a bunch of pure-bloods
would have been fabulous, but instead, Blade does his dirty work,
and thanks to Krista for delivering one of the dumbest diversions
I've seen on TV, Markus escapes. There will be a second season
since the Spike people were so into the premise and the series,
they ordered a second season before the first one aired.

I still enjoy the show overall.
Now I'm hoping Sticky Jones would go out and take some much needed
Kung Fu/Kendo training before the next season starts to shoot.
Plus, some acting development wouldn't hurt either.

Outside of that, I cannot wait. :smirk:

at least you are keeping an open mind to give sticky a chance to grow. i enjoyed the show as well. it was interesring seeing blade's past. i ope they show more next season.

the enemy of my enemy is my friend. that was what blade was thinking when he killed those purebloods instead of marcus. his M.O. is the same as the fed gov: they use the small fish to catch the big fish.
and surev I'm marcus is going to do the same thing with kriista... use her to lure blade intlo a trap next season.:jump2:

Blade Gets The Spike

Spike TV confirmed to SCI FI Wire reports that its original series Blade has been canceled. "Yes, that's true," a Spike representative said in an interview on Sept. 29. "It won't be renewed for a second season. I can tell you that Spike TV was very happy with the creative part of Blade. The cast, the actual production. We absolutely enjoyed working with New Line and [ex ecutive producer] David Goyer, [writer] Geoff Johns. But honestly, the network was disappointed with the audience turnout and the ratings. But I can tell you that New Line is going to be issuing a DVD of the entire season." No date was announced for the DVD.

The statement confirmed rumors first posted by co-star Jill Wagner on her MySpace.com page, according to a report on the THEOcracy Web site. The post in which Wagner (Krista Starr) reports the news is only visible to Wagner's friends. The news was also reported on Ain't It Cool News.

The series was quietly put to sleep after the end of its first 13-episode season. The show was based on the Blade movies and the Marvel Comics character, with Kirk "Sticky" Jones playing the title character. Wagner played his counterpart, a former soldier who becomes a vampire but struggles to retain her humanity.

As before, another season series bites the dust that I enjoyed.
Despite the cliffhanger ending, we'll never know what happens to Krista.
Still, it was a cool series to watch. The only vampire kick I'll be able to
enjoy now is through Supernatural (a far better series, I'll admit, but still...)
and they'll only show a few vampire episodes total.

Oh well. :ohwell: :dunno:

Well....

Just cause Spike cancelled it doesn't mean it's dead. IF in fact there is a decent following for the show, we might see someone like CW or Sci -Fi (not likely) perhaps even FX pick it up and run.

Everyone thought Family guy was gone until fan demand found it a home for new eipisodes on Adult Swim.
