Wow. He looks exactly like Christopher Reeve's Clark Kent. I mean, exactly as in carbon-copy. As in, replica. As in, way to NOT have a single original idea in your head, Singer!
This movie better be titled SUPERMAN III, because that's exactly what it is: a direct sequel to SUPERMAN II. I know Bryan Singer is openly gay and all, but can he please get off Richard Donner's cock (metaphorically speaking) and make something new?
P.S. Copying Raimi's Spider-Man (Perry's son marrying Lois) does not qualify as new either.

Or if that link does not work just go to Superherohype.com
The link at SSH! still doesn't work but man, that first pic is enough to make me smile! I would swear that he IS Chris Reeve if I didn't know better! I am so torn right now about whether this movie is going to be awesome or suck!!
Here are some clearer images of Routh as Clark Kent.

I wish Singer WASN'T going for the "dork" image ala Chris Reeves, though, and went more for the competent reporter "for a major metropolitan newspaper" that's shown both in the George Reeves TV series as well as the comics this film's based on.
D'oh! Someone already posted that link... http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif
Ok, I finally see them.
Things I like:
Spitting image of Chris Reeve, but more buff
They have the Clark Kent look down-pat
Blue eyes!
Things I don't like:
Too much hair
Eyes look kind of creepy
That really weird smile he's got going on
I honestly just don't know what to think about this movie. God I hope it's good.

Oh, and if anyone is having trouble viewing them at the links above, what I had to do was go to http://editorial.gettyimages.com and do a search on 'Brandon Routh'.

More buff? http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/confused.gif I was going to say that he doesn't look all that big to me.
I also noticed the weird smile thing as well. There's something odd about his face above his upper lip - as if perhaps he forgot to shave properly or something. I'm not sure.
I was hoping for a less nerdy look to Clark Kent - something more similar to a George Reeves Kent or even Dean Cain Kent. That would make a change from Chris Reeve. As far as audiences go however, who've only ever seen Superman on the big screen, they'll see that there's no change from Chris Reeve to Routh whatsoever when they could've seen a different interpretation instead. Now those said audiences will believe that Kent is always meant to be nerdy, when that was more something particular to Reeve.

That smile thing is kind of weird. Is it a moustache or lip muscles or what? Other than that, the pictures have me really excited to see the movie now. And I agree that first picture posted looks exactly like Christopher Reeve! Man, I can't wait to see how he acts in a scene.

These pics had the same effect on me that they had on Zac. I really had to smile when I saw them. Is it a mistake to follow Donner's mythos so closely? I guess we'll find out. However, if this casting is meant to be a hommage to Christopher Reeves and to Donner's seminal film, I think it succeeds nicely.

i hate to say this but this movie is going to be really bad if they don't do something about the look of superman brandon is to young to thin and to dorky looking to be the mighty man of steel i wish they would recast i would rather wait another year then to see some geek trying to be superman find someone older around 6'4 and wieghing in at 240 or so we've waited this long so whats a few more months fix it now or this movie will suck

But there is a way to fix this - get him to seriously hit the gym. That's what Chris Reeve did - he wasn't exactly all that big when he was first cast. I believe it was Dave Prowse (Darth Vader) who helped train Reeve and get him into shape, since Prowse was a bodybuilder. Adding a lot of muscle could change the look of Routh and may even make him appear older. He also needs a proper haircut - at the moment he doesn't even look like the Man of Steel pretending to be a nerd, but more like someone out of Revenge of the Nerds.
