Gamespy has had a pretty cool article running about the most overrated and underrated games...just interested to see what other gamers thoughts were on their most overrated and underrated games.

Overrated: Metal Gear Solid 2. Playing as Raiden with that whiny ass girlfriend of his drove me nuts. What top secret government agent has a direct line to his girlfriend..c'mon. and i won't get started on Raiden. I understand what Hideo Kojima was trying to do...but it really took away from the game...i wanted to play as snake. of course the cutscenes were lengthy and sometimes just too much...i want to play not watch.

Underrated: ICO This game to me is the coolest game I have ever played. It is one of those sleeper titles that just don't get the exposure. First of this game so gorgeous, and on an artistic level the design is truly beautiful. Gameplay is so different, yes it's puzzles and such, but having to watch out for the female character and help her along was what got me. i never have cared for the well being of a game character like i did for Yorda. oh yeah, great story and cool ending on this game.

I couldn't agree more. ICO was one of the most amazingly beautiful games I ever played. I'm not so into the puzzle solving kind of games but it was like being in a different world. Great finish too. I hope there's another one but it stands alone so very well I'd be happy if it just stayed as an incredible one off.

good news....i've seen shots of a new one....i have no idea when it's coming out but the little bit i have seen looks similar to ICO. ICO was a piece of art...it's hard for people to understand that....but it was. I would gladly have any of those images as a print in my living room.

My roomates have and play Ico. What I saw was pretty good. I hear many people missed out on it.

As for MGS2, I loved it. I understand where you are coming from though. Hell, at the time I was playing it I reaaally did not need to hear Rose's complaing about their relationship. Then again maybe it was just more psycological pressure for me since the game already tries to mess with your head.

Of course I didn't mind Raid too much. He was kinda a Nightwing to Raiden's Batman, always in his shadow. Plus it was a msytery as to what happened to Snake and why he was where he was. Plus this game was also desgined for female players who, especially in Japan, loved Raiden. As for the cut scenes and codecs, yeah, theyd id get long toward the end. Then again I loved the story. I actually wrote a paper for a technology & philosphy class and used clips from the game as examples.

i really didn't have a problem with the story, i like Kojima's writing and stories...I just wish I could pause the cut scenes....so i don't have to miss out on them as opposed to going back to a previous save. it's hard to take a phone call in the middle of a 5 minute cut scene and pay attention. I liked the story....I just think it didn't compare to MGS.

Raiden while not my favorite character...well i could see why the women liked him (the first charcter my girlfriend said whe thougth was pretty cute). i really didn't mind playing him, as I wanted to play MGS....but I much rather would be Snake Plissken than James Bond if you get the idea. But Raiden sure as hell had one annoying girlfriend...."look baby, i love you, but i'm in the middle of a fire fight...so can we pick up who did or didn't leave up the toilet seat converstation later? oh wait, i have to snap this guy's neck...can i call you back in just a second?"
Psychological, maybe.

thanks for heating up the discussion.

no he is not in it....i was making a comparison of who i would rather be in a game. solid snake is a much more interesting character to me than raiden was. i would rather play as the bad ass.....than a guy with a whiny girlfriend, hell i have that in real life.
