Just wanted to chime in an throw something on your radar that you might not have heard of. There is a insanely popular anime called Naruto. It's not in the US yet, but from the legions of fans it could ahve DBZ potential. (One Piece does too and I like it better, but that's a whole other issue.)
Anyway, if you like the anime or not, the Gamecube fighting game by Tomy freaking rules. My roomates and I have played the heck out of it, even though (at the start) not all of us had seen the anime ro manga or liked it. Unfotunately, it's a japanese only release so far. Lucklily, our friend who bought it ( and thankfully has forgotten we borrowed it :rolleyes http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif also got a freeloader so you can play it on a US Gamecube.
So, basically you are a bunch of ninjas who fight each other. Naurto is the main character. One roomate said it's like all the cheap fighting characters from all the other games are in this one, which really makes it fun. Plus if you are getting comboed and beaten up, you hit a button to "log out". That is, you turn into a log and teleport elsewhere to smack your oppenent before he turns around. Though, if he too has enough magic ninjitsu energy, he can reverse this and 'log out' to smack you. Plus then there are different moves and supermove too.
Also, the game features really nice cel shading.
This is comparable to the great DBZ Budokai game, which you also don't have to be a fan of to enjoy. Though the fighting system is totally different. I think this one's actually smoother and better personally.
Really interesting fighting system. This is a really great fighting game.
Plus they're coming out with a sequel. Here are some pics: http://www.the-magicbox.com/game111803d.shtml
