So, what about video games that have been made into movies? Ok, forget Mario Brothers. Yeah, nevermind *sudder* Double Dragon. (That was Paul Dini's evil twin, dangit!!) And yeah Tomb Raider and Resident Evil weren't Shakespeare, but there are great possibilities. Heck, Metal Gear Solid is better then most recent spy flicks combined.

What about upcoming ones? Now I hear news that Metroid is a possibility: http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=3867

Also, Metal Gear Solid would be a great movie. Then again, it already is a great movie, but interactive! I don't know if I need a film movie of it, but it could be very good.

Also, I'd love to see a movie based on Zelda: Orcarina of Time for N64. And as much as it pains me to say it, DiCaprio would be a good link.

He would be a good Link. I just saw him in Catch me if you Can....I respect him more now as an actor.

I think Metal Gear could be a great movie, but who the heck would play Snake...? I mean, he's so...perfect in the game. The wrong actor for him, even a little bit off, could ruin the movie.

What about a REAL Final Fantasy movie? You know, one based on say, FFX? The story line was great.

Also, I did think the first Mortal Kombat film was good. I enjoyed it anyway...Even though the sequal sucked and I heard Street Fighter sucked as well. Still, I have hope that a Tekken film, done well could be great.

Ugh. I forgot about Street Fighter. Ugh... ugh. I saw that in thearters. Ugh.

Ok, which was worse, Street Fighter or Double Dragon or MK 2? (Only seen the first two myself.) I think Super Mario Brothers in its own category, so I'll leave that be. (Though that b-bomb was damn cool.)

If this were a few years ago I think I'd go with Kurt Russell to play Snake. I think he could've done a really good job. Except a lot of people who don't know the game might get a little confused, what with him playing another character named Snake in Escape from New York/LA. Also the two characters have a lot in common.
These days I've been thinking Hugh Jackman might make a good Snake. I think he could pull off the whole spy/warrior/philosopher thing that Snake has going. He also already has a little connection to the game. David Hayter, the guy who does Snake's voice for the game, worked on both X-Men movies.
Another possibility is the actor who plays Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings. I can't remember what his name is at the moment, but I'm sure everyone knows who I'm talking about.

I worry a little about how a MGS movie might turn out though. I mean the story in the game is incredible, but Hollywood has a habit of taking a good story and making it crap. I'm afraid that they would take the story, rip it's heart out, and make the movie nothing but one long action sequence in an attempt to compete with other movies like James Bond and XXX.
I'd still watch it though, and if it did turn out badly I'd just go back to the games and try to forget about it.

Also Castlevania might make adecent movie.

I was ahuge fan of The Syphon Filter series on PS One(anxisoulsy awaiting the PS2 debut of Gabe Logan and the Agency)

It had a lot of cool twist and turns.

Devil May Cry also has the potential for a feature film.

Thanks,

If they did make a Castlevania movie, who would make a good Belmont? Personally I think Viggo Mortensen might do a pretty good job as any of the Belmonts. Simon, Trevor, and so on. But I don't think he'd want to play a charecter that has so much in common with the one he plays in Lord of the Rings.

Also who would make a good Alucard? Symphony of the Night was so popular you have to figure he'd make an appearance at some point.

I actually liked Resident Evil, aside from the fact it was a remake of Return Of The Living Dead 3, and that judging by it's storyline the sequil will probably follow the games storyline as closely as the first did.

I remember hearing about a possible movie based on the Doom games... after all they had Doom novels based on the game... with the advances in computer technology supposed to make Doom 3 rock, they could also base a movie on Doom 3.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein could be a cool movie done right.

As for classic Nintendo games.... Duck Hunter! ... ok, maybe not. I do remember hearing something about a Zelda movie a ways back.... that could be cool. I used to watch the cartoon and that was pretty good if memory serves. Leo could be good... it just depends on what age they want to portray Link. With 'Ocarina' they could have Leo as older link and then some kid for young link... That could work okay.

In my humble opinion, double dragon was the worst, followed by S.F.. MK2 wasn't a bad movie, but after the first (very, very cool) we were all waiting for something better.

As for something that would be a cool video game movie, do the following: grab George Clooney, tell him: You are Sam Fisher. You are a Shadow. You do not exist. You are Splinter Cell. Nothing more, nothing else.

I agree MGS would make a great movie, Kurt Russel would be an excellent sold snake. The best game I have played in ages is ICO, and the story kept me compelled. Mind you it was alot of puzzles, but I cared about the characters. I have never screamed at a character like I have at ICO, this game was awesome. Alot of people didn't like it, but I have played video games since the Atari and this was something different, this game was an innovation. For the movie they would have to flesh out a deeper story, but the visuals and potential would be awesome.

I think an anime version of Metal Gear Solid would probably be the best bet for success. That way they could get the original voice actor and everbody would be happy. http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

I've been thinkin' about video games that I'd like to make personally if a studio handed me millions upon millions of dollars (yeah right, but hey)

I'd probably do Grand Theft Auto. Probably starring Hugh Jackman. Basically he steals cars and gets in fights with people. He'd have a big standoff/shootout with the police at the end and yeah...

Another one I'd like to do is Crazy Taxi.

More as a comedy. With a small taxi company about to go under, the top drivers need to make some serious dough in order to stay in business. Major thing I just have to get off my chest is that a friend of mine says he'd cast Anthony Hopkins as Gus. For those of you who know the game, you can share my pain. He doesn't think that it's a more James Gandolfini character. Whatever...

Look at this student trailer for a fictional L/A mega man film based on the Capcom game: www.planet-megaman.com/mmmovie/ (http://www.planet-megaman.com/mmmovie/)

it's not the best,but i liked it...if only they make SMASH! T.V. a movie...like Running Man,but...different.

If it did good, they always have part 2,TOTAL CARNAGE.

Actually, for a fan film, that is one of the better ones I have seen. That really kicked ass. Wish they used a different ES Posthumous song than the one they used in the Spiderman trailer though. Anyway, gosh damn, I'd go see that movie. Sure the GC was a bit off at some points, but again, for a fan film it was quite good.

one killer movie would be twisted metal black. that was one dark, but sweet game. i think you could rework the whole destruction derby thing and make it kinda running man for the prize. sweet tooth would be the lead character, the movie would have to be pretty dark to live up to the game.

I posted this in the other forum, but....
You know would make an AWESOME movie? Legend of Zelda........ I personally think the Ocarina of Time story would be the best to translate into movie plot. And, I agree withThe_Vampire:Spider in that forum, Orlando Bloom would be the only guy who could pull of Link. I personally would like to see Liv Tyler as Zelda... but anyway, thats just me. Peace out, my home dawgs.

I've long discussed the need for a GOOD Zelda movie. I don't think going straight from Ocarina of Time's story would be the best route, though. The young/old stuff is unnecessary (not to mention silly--do you think a little kid doing that crap on the big screen would have any credibility whatsoever?), and some of the other elements were a little too kiddy as well. (Unless, of course, you want to make this as a full-on kid's movie, in which case I'd have to gouge my eyes out.)

I say combine the best elements of OoT and A Link to the Past. The character designs from OoT are a great starting point. But you've got to include the Dark World... That'd be an amazing opportunity for creature designs. Also, I think a combination of the mythologies would be best. The seven sages, seven maidens plot from LttP could be trimmed down, but they shouldn't make Link the little human-boy from Elfville... Too Will Ferrell http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/tongue.gif and developing the human/elf classes is unnecessary and would look cheap after LOTR.

I don't think the film could be done justice in one film, but a trilogy would really be stretching it on that storyline alone. This is what I'd do:

1) The Legend of Zelda
Light World -- Link is called by Zelda, learns of the history and fate of Hyrule and his bloodline, obtains the Master Sword, tries to save Zelda, unsuccessfully, and in the end is left standing on the top of a pyramid in a strange land.

2) Legend of Zelda II
Dark World -- Link... I dunno, does his thing, defeats Ganon, rescues Zelda, and becomes the new master of the triforce, in no particular order.

3) Legend of Zelda: Adventure of Link
Peace has returned to the Kingdom of Hyrule, but whispers spread about evil afar. The noble hero is recruited to seek it out, only to discover it is the personification of his own inner evils, given power by his possession of the Triforce.

Not a bad idea. Not a bad idea at all. Except, somehow, flop the Zelda 2 and 3. You don't want to kill off your main villain in the middle movie.
Maybe in 2, in Link's quest to find Zelda, strange things start to happen. He goes to villages he's never been before and is accused of doing horrible evils. This could be Dark Link. I dunno, I'm just coming up with this as I go along. But, I do admit, this would make a great movie, no matter what.

Well, ideally, it'd be great to do a trilogy where Ganon dies in the end of the third one. But from a selling point of view, it'd be extremely hard to convince a studio to go for an epic-scale trilogy based on a video game, especially when it would be called an imitation in comparison to LOTR.

There's a fundamental difference between Zelda and LOTR: With the Rings movies, most everyone knew what they were getting. Even those that didn't read the books knew that everyone would at least have to live until the end of the third film, because it was already being touted as a trilogy.

Zelda, on the other hand, is not so widely known. Even in fanboy circles, there's really a lot of overlap in the different game stories that, if converted to movie form, we could keep everyone guessing. So there's not so much a need to stick to the pre-fab trilogy form.

So what, if not Ganon's defeat and the defeat of evil, is the underlying theme that the final installment ties up? Self-sacrifice. Even though he is big hero and a good person, Link's battles and toils have created some inner demons, and they become dangerous when magnified by the Triforce's power. So when he discovers this, and learns even after battling his demons, he knows that he must relinquish his hold on the Triforce (requiring his [at least mortal] death), thereby passing it on to Zelda. As she's always been seen as the "wisdom" and purity of the three main characters, she would be capable of controlling the Triforce responsibly. (No throwing it in a volcano!)

Obviously there are a LOT of places where one can draw a lot of Lord of the Rings comparisons, especially when discussing "keepers of great power" and such. The key would be to play up the allegorical angles of the story: trilogy, trinity, harmony of power and so forth. Give it some religious qualities, whereas LOTR is mostly a battle of "secular" good & evil. (The books might not be so, but aside from a few references from elves and wizards, there's not much talk of greater beings or heaven and hell.)

I've got a lot on my table right now--writing a screenplay for a film I hope to shoot this summer, among other things--but I think I will try and take a stab at this sometime.

Sonic1002
12-24-2003, 08:01 PM
I think I know what angle your coming from noow with Ganondorf's "death" in the middle movie. Like in OoT, at the end, Link thought he destroyed Ganondorf at the top of the Tower, yet, ant the end, the Trifroce of Power sustained his life and brought him back in the form of Ganon. Okay, I think that's where your coming from. If it is, then I fully agree.
I love your ideas for this. You've put alot of thought into this, haven't you?
Yeah, next to LOTR, this thing would pale in comparison. Nothing can stand up to the might of the Ring..... not even Link.
I've always seen Zelda to be more religous than "black and white" good vs. evil. It does show that aspect, for example, in the three powers in one entity, AKA the three shards of the Triforce in the one golden Triangle. Anyway, yeah, I would love to see and/or hear your ideas.
