woo i love dirty pair, dunno how well it could be done, but if it's written/based on adam warren it'd be great ^^ he tends to take takachihio's ideas and add a heck lot of action, blood, and satire. beauty i say.

ok battle angel alita, far as i can see th enext movie will provide experience for cameron then he'll make a bunch of movies based on alita's continuity. he wants it done right. sounds awesome to me. take your time man. i'm 19 now x_x dun take too long.

evangelion movie? lol. he thought about it and changed his mind last i remember.

dbz movie? blah lotta action, no brains. this market craves thought and emotion along with action.

a bubblegum crisis movie would be fun. nice realistic angsty cyber punk. just up the action and story a bunch based on the original series and ya have a great movie or two (i've yet to see 2040, looks great, but indeed the original kicks butt despite it's uncompleteness) woo th emusical score should be funny. i'd hate for them to ruin that, ah whatev leave that for later.

hmm what else, appleseed movie would kick butt, but being 4+ books no tellen when completed, i dunno what kind of movie ya could make. the anime lacked a lot of the plot of the books.

ghost in the shell live action? heck why the heck not hehe. matrix was inspired by ghost in the shell, they could do it! haha.

what else was there, oh yeh my website
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/liveactionanime

you dun need to join it to participate in pretty much any way. just a store house of links to such things as this topic.

I'm not to sure about the whole anime to movie thing, but there are a few that I would enjoy.
I'm hoping James Cameron will make a Gunnm/Battle Angel Movie. When I was in a theater a few years back I saw a preview for the movie "Soldier" and was almost certain the giant junkyard scene was the Scrapyards. Seeing that alone makes me want a Battle Angel movie.
If they did Dirty Pair or Gunsmith cats it wouldn't be as fun anymore. Dirty pair was about two buxom babes in battle bikinis. Sheer eye-candy fun. Translate to live action and it becomes sleezy and dirty. Doesn't feel right. And the alternative lifestyles of the Gunsmith Cats characters would not translate well to american audiences.
Ghost in the Shell movie? No way. Too much talking for action fans, too much subtlety and undertones that moviegoers would grow bored off too quickly. Honesty, the manga was much better.
Akira? DragonBallZ? Bad ideas. One would be too confusing, the other, too testosterone laced. Not enough substance to work with.
What would I like? They Were Eleven, nice story, moves along well, builds character, and you can add in action scenes as you wish without destroying the context, the heart of the story.
Blade of the immortal and Rurouni Kenshin would also be good stories. Action, violence, story, plot, character development.
For most of anime, it's teh sheer extremness of it that makes moviemaking impossible. Giant Robots, magic battles, monster pets, and super hero highschool kids are not what the majority of US citizens want in tehir movies, it just doesn't come over well enough.

The thing that scares me about this Hollywood Akira is that it is being handled by teh same people who are doing The League of Extrodnary Gentlemen. I see how much they have dumbed that down and Americanized that wonderful book. I can only imagine what they're gonna do to Akira.

Oh and don't forget rumors of Aronofsky doing a US Lone Wolf and Cub. Then again there were a number of Japanese films from the 70s of LW&C. I belive AnimEigo is putting them out now.

I don't think anime made into live action movies would work. Anime isn't as mainstream as the comics. Secondly most of the plots for anime are Science fiction which is also not a very mainstream genre.

For example, if they were to make a live action Akira, or lets say Battle Angel Alita, the average movie goer would think the story was too weird.

No offense but that's a bunch of boloney. Most of the Marvel's heroes are based in the realm of science fiction. The world of The Matrix is science fiction. The general public will still flock to theaters as long as the movie looks good. It doesn't matter if it was based on anime or comics anyway, because most anime is based on japanese comics. Besides, filmakers always make changes when they make adaptations to make the material relatable to audiences(and I think most audiences like stuff that's weird).

Well, can you sell smart or deep SF in America? Sometimes. Then again who says all anime is smart sci fi.

Who says all anime is Sci Fi. You also got your fantasy like.. well can't think of a series right now. You got horror like Hellsing and Vampire Hunter D. The you got your 'chick flicks' and soap operas in all the shojo manga and anime for girls. There is a huge genre and market for those in Japan and somewhat in America since that's they are some of the few comics geared toward girls and women in the US.

Plus, who said all anime was smart and couldn't be ready for mainstream US consumoption? Fanserive anyone? It helped Baywatch become a hugely popular show and we didn't even have that well defined of a name for it. Plus let's not forget giant robots or w/e fighting each other looks cool. Hey, it wokred in Eva. If it was too deep or too SF for you, then at least you could oggle the babes and look at the cool fights.

Also, another separate note, over in Japan they've been converting manga to flim and even anime to film for a while.

For example, I recently started the 10 vol manga Alive. I unfortunatley regretted I only had 5 of them. Anyway, it's about a guy on death row who gets a msyterious chance to skip his exoution, but the strange lab they take him to might not be worth it. Now the manga is not in the US yet and I found it online (DC++). Anyway, odd thing, later that day I went to a Japanese grocery store and was looking at the manga. One of the phonebook sized manga collection had an article about the live action movie based on Alive.

Also, i wanna point out GTO. Which is a hugely popular manga which became and anime and a live action TV show. A friend of ine has been hunting down the TV show. I jsut found they also have a live aciton movie. A friend also found a live action You're Under Arrest.

Just finished the first two volumes and I think a properly done Lupin 3rd film would be great

Well I know that Cameron is releasing 'Alita' and it was also announced that 'EVA' was going to the big screen. There's also artwork of the film available on numerous sites. I have also heard they have penned a script for 'Ninja Scroll' and are waiting for the right cast with the ability to weild swords and I've heard that 'Lupin III' and a horror manga called 'Parasyte' are in the workings.

I don't know if Akira, Eva and DBZ will do well as movies, they'll be hard to do right without the overuse of special effects.

Also, I am a huge Gunsmith Cats fan and I'd love to see a movie of it as long as they get a half-Asian woman to play Rally like she is in the manga and not someone like Demi Moore (someone actually suggested this somewhere). It would be easy to make and it may not appeal to some but fans of the manga and anime (like me) and the action genre would be there and there's never been a film that everyone has liked anyway. Just defending GC from critics lol ^__^

I'm just wondering, if they do DBZ as a movie (which I hear they might) how will they do the hair? That will be no small feat.

I think Ghost in the Shell would make a fan-freaking-tastic live action movie, although, yes, there's a lot of inner dialog going on. The original comic didn't have as much, though, yes? Think of the chameleon-suit thing, and the whole scene through the marketplace, and... and... Yeah, Hollywood would special effects it to death.
As for Akira, it would come out looking like a more-complicated-than-Bladerunner and longer-than-the-new-spend-several-hours-watching-it-Dune but the bikes would probably be really neat.
No one would understand a stand alone Evangelion, as happy as that would make many of my friends. How about something like Cowboy Bebop or Serial Experiments Lain? Armitage, maybe?
Of course, the main reason I like anime is because of the different styles of art; live action would take away that whole "wow" aspect of watching it over and over again just to pick up on the subtleties missed the first time around. That's why I liked Blood more than, say, Spirited Away.
Can't comment much on manga that hasn't been done yet as anime- the big black/white volumes don't do much for me.

There's an anime ova called "Cyber City Oedo 808" that I think would translate pretty good to live-action. The story is set in the future and it involves 3 inmates that are given a chance to shorten their jail time by working for the cops(kind of like the Mod Squad I guess). Each is outfitted with a booby trapped, high-explosive collar that operates on a 24 hour timer. If the crimes aren't solved by the appointed hour then they could be detonated.

There are 3 stories in the ova, one for each character to be the lead in the case. If you haven't seen this then I suggest you check it out. The only problem I could see a studio having with investing in this picture is that one of the lead characters is a transvestite, but not a homosexual. That being said, he's probably the coolest character in the anime and was assigned to the best case IMO, so I would hope that if this was adapted to live action they might leave the character "as is".

Blood as a live-action...I like the sound of that as long as it doesn't get made into a Blade-clone.

Don't you think Jolie looks like Saya a bit? With the lips anyhow and the Tomb Raider-esque hair style.

Anyone see the latest on Eva on this site?

'Futurizmo Anime reports to have heard the rumor, that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe might be cast as Shinji Ikari for the live action Neon Genesis Evangelion movie.'

Also, watched some of Noir, kick ass anime, might make a good film. Best thing since Gunsmith Cats in my opinion http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif

crap, i type a big long post and then i clicked on somehting and it opened a new page in this window and it "made it all go away". damn, so to try and retype the stream of conscious of what i said...

one, the Radcliff casting is pure rumor. it's too out of the blue and too damn soon.

two, Jolie as Saya .. maybe if she was younger and a school girl. Anyone know of a Jolie look a like? Plus maybe have her be Japanese. I think she was in the all too short movie.

speaking of yohnger look alikes, Lee Lee Sobieski kinda looks like a younger Helen Hunt. though she certianly has earned her acting chops in her own right. anyone else like Lee Lee for Julia from Bebop? Of course she could also be Queen Esmeraldes and the other Leiji Matsumoto character from Galaxy Express. That's who Julia is a dead ringer for. Not to mention Spike and crew look like Lupin and crew. Of course Ed looks nothing like Goemon.

Speaking of Leiji Matsumoto, some of his stuff liek Harlock and Esmeraldes would be cool live action space operas. Likley could kick Lucas's new crap in the pants.
