As a guy who used to really be into anime it makes me sad to see what's happened to this forum, so what the hell, I'm starting a new thread. I figure alot of people watch Cartoon Network, and there's plenty of anime there, so maybe people would like to talk about what anime shows they like, and if they want to, the ones they don't like. And maybe if Xenos doesn't mind, we could also discuss some of the other Adult Swim shows that aren't anime related.

Full Metal Alchemist has really got me hooked after watching one episode. I love the animation and the concept behind it (especially the part about binding people's souls to suits of armor). The American voice-overs were pretty good too. It seems like so many kiddie(and adult) anime shows are being brought over with awful dubs that this was actually refreshing.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Well I recognize all the characters from the first movie(I still haven't seen 'Innocence' yet). Well, I've watched two episodes and I'm a little confused by the plot. Something about banned substances and what celebrity has been taking what, and some kind of list. I see enough of that on the news every day, I really don't want a story arc about it in my anime. But this was made way before all this steroid scandal stuff so I won't hold it against the writers. I do like the action in the series so far and the story does keep you thinking, but the characters look so damn unemotional and stiff that I kind of get bored.

I keep missing Trigun. I always end up catching a minute or two, either when I'm on the way in or on my way out. Just in case you're wondering why I just don't record it, well my VCR's busted and I don't have TIVO. And I've abandoned the P2P downloading(don't ask). Any way, the little that I have seen seemed more comical than I expected. Is this a comedy with adventure in it, or an adventure show with comedy in it?

Cowboy Bebop
For some reason this show just has me at a loss. It's cool, the animation is great, and yet I just can't get into it. Forgive me Bebop fans.

Well, there's plenty more anime to talk about but I'll stop here. Hopefully this post will get the ball rolling in this forum.

*shiff* Someone remembered I was down here all alone! Thank you!

Heh. Kidding aside, yeah, Adult Swim is doing a dman fine job of showing anime. Full Metal Alchemist is definately a favorite. I never realized the series would get so dark. Had my friends who were into it told me, I might have followed the fansubs as they did. Eh. This is fine. I really like the dub too.

GitS: SAC is also very good. It can sometimes be a bit bland, but I enjoy it. I like the movies and the first manga and I think this is a great blend of both and yet something good on its own. Of course, it kinda says so in the title. Also, each episode is usually stand alone and has some confusing consiracy or criminal plot to take down. Though there are running back stories and cases like The Laughing Man. The whole Lauhing Man thing got me to finally get around to reading Catcher in the Rye. Plus I love cyberpunk, so I really like GitS.

By the time they were on Adult Swim, I already had seen Trigun and Bebop and had the box sets. Yeah, I like them. Though I don't think I'm as big a Vash fan as friend of mine went as a kick ass Vash last Anime Boston. Or at least he's a huge Vash fan now thanks to the hordes of fangirls, even despite teh scary ones.

Heh, no problem man. Y'know a funny thing happened last night after creating this thread. One of the local access channels on Comcast showed Ninja Scroll(the movie, not the crap show), Ghost & The Shell:Innocence, and Lady Death The Motion Picture.

Unfortunately for me, 'Innocence' didn't start until after 2AM and I was dead tired. Plus it was aired in Japanese with the captions on(yes that's right, not subtitles, but captions) which describes every sound from dialogue to crowd noise, to footsteps, to sirens, to whatever! At 2AM that's too much for my brain to handle while trying to watch a movie, so the next thing I knew I was waking up to see the end of Lady Death's poorly animated film. And here's the real kicker. Whoever submitted the programming must have taped the films from his dvd player, because the menu from the Lady Death DVD was on the screen for like 25 minutes after the movie was done. Still, I'm gratefull that someone takes the time and money to air anime flicks on their own. I just hope they aren't breaking any laws by doing it.

Wow! How the hell is a cable channel showing GitS: Innocence already? It sounds like they used the crappy cationed release Dreamworks orignally released. They've since recalled those to put on proper sub tracks. Unfortunately, the jerks don't have any dub! Now I like the sub version, if done right like I saw in thearters, but it's damn stupid not to have a dub.

I sitll haven't seen Ninja Scroll even though it seems everyone sees that when they first see anime.

I heard Lady Death was pretty lame.

Ah, now that you mention the DVD menu thing, it sounds like someone did jsut pop in their DVDs in at the cable station. I'm pretty sure they broke some laws doing that too. Still kinda cool.

Adult Swim will soon be all anime on Saturday nights. I don't know when its going to happen, but Adult Swim showed a commercial saying that it will stop showing episodes of Futurama Saturday night and all other programing will be anime from 11pm to 6am. I checked out their schedule on the website and it still shows Futurama scheduled for the next two Saturdays so this probably won't happen until next month.

Just a question. Do you consider Teen Titans anime or an homage to the genre?

Its definitely not anime. Teen Titans is based on an American comic, not manga, so that's one category that eliminates it from being anime. Second, the series is created for an English speaking audience, not a Japanese speaking audience, so that also eliminates it from being anime.

I love Adult Swim...and anime...I just started watching Sam Champloo...Great Anime...I love the whole modern DJ Style mixed in with the fighting. excellent. s CRY ed has me at a loss, it'd seem decent, but it didn't captivate me. I love FMA, Best Anime I've seen since TRIGUN, and I saw TRIGUN, before Adult Swim ever put it on. GitS is awesome too. I really want them to Bring HellSing to Adult Swim, that would totally kikc ass. I also Liked Case Closed...dunno why...it mesmerised me, had me wanting more.

Watched the new programming Saturday night and I don't think anything they showed is a good as Full Metal Alchemist. Samurai Champloo is cool but I think Cowboy Bebop is better, and I'm not even a big fan of Bebop. Paranoia Agent seriously had me scratching my head and saying "WTF, Cartoon Network approved this?" Hopefully there's more to this series than the first episode indicated. Who cares about some egomaniac kid who's being framed? I don't! I did like the music playing in the background throughout the show. Its got a good beat and you can really dance too it! :)

FLCL or FoolyCooly: When Xenos would mention this in other threads I had no idea what he was taliking about and I finally got to watch it last night. This show is probably one of the most bizarre anime series I've ever seen. From what I could tell, the characters are all completely insane. They aren't Joker crazy, but there's plenty of screws loose in that bunch. The plot, if there was a plot--actually I don't think there was one, but whatever it was had me dazed and confused (this show might be the equivalent of psychodelic drugs). These aren't complaints though, just observations, because that's all I could do was observe. As soon as my brain locked in on the kinetic movements of the animation. the insane ramblings and rock soundtrack , I couldn't look away. The crazy talk that the characters speak also seems to fit the way its animated. The rock music also adds to the crazy atmosphere of the show and makes me wonder why Cartoon Network airs it so late. This is the kind of program I'd like to wake up to, not watch before going to bed.

fadexero, S-Cry-Ed also has me at a loss. Nice character designs but the show itself didn't hold my attention. I saw the first episode of Cased Closed and enjoyed until they turned the lead character into a little boy. That's a plot twist that I never thought worked as a starting point for a series.

D.K. Hood, Trust me, watch more of Case Closed, you'll be pulled into it real quick. It's like those Encyclopedia Brown books that you read when you were younger, but an anime...a decent one too. I really like it though, and because he's a kid, he end up living with his Girl Friend(who doesn't know it's him), and His Girl Friends Dad, who is a Detective too, And the boy turns her dad into like a Great detective. It's all really good. Great plots, great over all story, the art is kind of a mix between old style campy plus newer, but it works well. Watch more though, it's great.

The second ep of Paranoia Agent was a lot more adult oriented than I was expecting and took me by surprise. Don't want to spoil it if you missed it but there's a little bit of Fight Club meets The Twilight Zone aspect to this episode. I liked it a lot more than the first episode and actually it makes me like the first episode more than I originally did.

Oh sweet! That was only the second ep. I had seen the first on fansub and just happened to catch this one without knowing how many eps I missed. Seem they are going to be doing some jumping around from characters to characters. Of course Lil' Slugger aka Shonen Bat is going to be conecting them it seems, if not also connecting his bat to their heads.

Anybody else see Paranoia Agent last night? The interrogation of Lil' Slugger was pretty bizarre and didn't really answer any questons, but we do know that he's a geek. I guess that's something.

And on a side note, the local access channel I mentioned in another post aired an episode of Ghost In The Shell:SAC. Now that's just pressing your luck when you do something like that. Airing a show that you have no rights to and is already being shown in the states on Cartoon Network is just asking for trouble. Also, on a positive note, they've been showing Crying Freeman!! That's classic anime at its best IMO.

Guessin this is the right place to post it, instead of making a new Topic that will die out in a day.

Kid Flash is going to show up in a new episode of Teen Titans. I'm not sure if it already shows or it'll show next saturday but I really like seeing more and more characters coming onto the show...Kinda reminds me of Smallville. This might be a sign that we can see Wonder girl (Is that her name?), Superboy, and others that havent shown up in the cartoon.

It seems there aren't much fans of this show but after a while I started liking it. Anyone else? Comments on Kid Flash?
