I was absolutely positive it was meant to be released in cinemas today (June 11th) but it doesn't seem to be in Cinemas anywhere in the UK. Has it been removed from release (perhaps going straight to video) or has it been pushed back to a later date? On a related note, Thomas Jane was meant to be at Forbidden Planet London this past Tuesday, but he cancelled his appearance. He didn't specify for what reason, but it wasn't to do with that, was it? If anyone knows any news about the UK release , please let me know. Thanks

Well, according to the Internet Movie Database (which isn't alwats the most reliable source of information) the Punisher isn't due to be released in the UK until September 24.
Seems like some odd scheduling to me,

Well, it definitely was meant to be originally June 11th, which was why Thomas Jane was meant to be coming over, to promote the UK premiere. I wonder why it would be pushed back to September?

It might have something to do with your country's wacky censorship to violence. I heard some scenes from "The Rundown" were cut because someone got a head butt, and another scene in another movie (whose title escapes me for the moment) was cut out because someone was kicked while he was on the ground.

Let's see... this from a country in which any nudity on film is blurred out digitally and all expletives beeped out?

I meant that the US does that. The UK never does that, which is why I would wonder why there'd be any censorship issue with the Punisher.

Yeah, I understood that. It's just that there are some scenes I heard were cut from films because someone in charge of film ratings in the UK when it comes to violence. I got these from pretty reliable sources, the directors on DVD commentaries. (Usually they would say something like, "Oh, we had to cut that out for the British version.")
I'm just saying that someone might have found the movie a bit too violent and probably had the director cut out some kicks or headbutts or something.

Plus, the don't bleep swear words and blur out nudity on film, only on TV.

Well, it looks like it's official. According to Dark Horizons, there will most likely not be a sequel to The Punisher, unless it's a cheap straignt-to-DVD knock off. This gives the character the dubious honour of being the subject of not just one, but two cult films.

When you think about it, it seems oddly appropriate for the character. I'm sure Frank wouldn't have wanted it any other way http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/tongue.gif

By the time this movie comes out in the UK, I guess it will be rather late to post a review. Still a few months to go now until this film hits the cinemas.

norrinraad that was nothing more than a rumor. And norrinraad don't and try to think that's what the character would want. Give me a break.

Well, a character like the Punisher is definately not mainstream. Punny has always been a cult character, so it's fitting that he would be in cult movies.

Apparently Thomas Jane has confirmed there will be a Punisher 2. However, I'm sure that will probably be in post-production before Punisher 1 ever opens here in the UK

If it's true this is good news! The first one had its flaws, definitely, but I still enjoyed it and thought they were on the right track. The film only cost $53 million to make and market and it's already made that back internationally so I guess they figure a sequel is feasible. Also, since most of the people who missed the film during it's initial run will probably want to catch it on DVD, sales should be healthy.

And yes, Punisher is still scheduled to be released theatrically in the UK on 9/24/04. Interestingly enough, of all the foreign markets it was scheduled to play in, only the UK and Chile are still waiting, and Chile gets in on 8/19/04. The UK is the last market on the schedule. Why every other European market got it in June and July seems a little baffling.

It was 33$ million to make. Marketing was 20$ million.
