View Full Version : HOPE!!

Hey, everybody see the news up on the Front page? They got a script settled, if I read this right.
So, what's yet for them to do? Hmm... Create a workable armor suit... Casting... look for sponsors, of course... refine the script... oh, right- filming.
One thing that worries me- They say they're going to completely re-vamp Stark's origin from a guy injured in Vietnam to a guy trying to redeem himself for creating weapons that ended up being mis-used. Taht sounds frighteningly like the plot of "Steel." You remember that, right: The movie that tried to make people belive Shaq was a super genius?
Anyway, what do you know or think about this news?

Actually, that's kinda more believable, even tho it take away from Tony's real origin. I', sure no one will buy the fact that with today's medical advances, they couldn't fix his heart...

Well, the thing is that even in the Iron Man comic, medicine could fix his heart. He had a heart transplant back in one of the early issues of Iron Man (around #8 or #9), but still needed the chestplate because his heart was weak. He wore it until it was fully healed and regenerated, then later wore the armour simply for the purpose of being Iron Man. But in Tales of Suspense #39, the reason he used a armour with a special chestplate was because it was an emergency procedure. He only had a few days to live, was captured by Wong Chu and forced to make a weapon, and there weren't any hospitals around run by any Allied forces where he could have such an operation.

It would need quite big star power to push this, then agin the effects would be something too cool for school!
I just get the feeling that if this film is made, and i know we're fans, are you sure it wouldnt BOMB bigtime!
Its got bomb all over it like baby puke on a blanket. Effects and star power are the only two things to pull this up.
Shot one-they try their level hardest to secure tom cruise.
Shot two-they save the money, spend it on big CGI bangs and get Karl Urban (up and coming, solid and....cheeeeep!).

Tom Cruise? Why Tom Cruise? The guy has maybe 6 facial expressions, half of which are off- shoots of smug! Hmm. Maybe he WOULD fit, at that.

I'l tell you why Tom Cruise.
I think it was William Goldman who said, all you need for a blockbuster is marketing and Tom Cruise on the poster.
He is a hugely bankable star. Its shocking, i know! But it will make the film a success.
MI, MI:2, Vanilla Sky, Minority Report, Last Samurai-films with a lot in them (except MI:2-bleh!) but the posters only feature Cruises face-thats all a film needs to make money!
And in V Sky, i think he gives a great performance-a playboy becoming a real broken man-could work...

Overall, I don't think star power is enough. I mean, YES, people went to see Catwoman because of Berry, but most everyone hated it.
And why COULDN'T an Iron Man movie work without a big star? As far as i can see, the Battlesuit concept is alot more realistic than a woman controlling weather with her mind, or a kid able to climb walls from a bug bite.

Thats a good point.(both of 'em)
They could even take that point and have a Marvel 'real-world' movie in the same vein that Nolans taken with Batman.
I suppose it could be enough. What would the storyline be though?
what about the bad guys? i dont have any iron man knoledge so i dont know what bad guys are in his storys... and which bad guy or "villian" is the best for the movie. all you guys are talkin about is iron man but isnt there a good bad guy? i like the movies where the good guy and bad guy have the same powers (like venom ans spiderman) but one is nice and the other isnt. but i do have a issue where the metal suit tries to kill the guy... nah thats no way possible for movie success.

I don't know WHAT the storyline could be about, but I imagine there are a few good ideas out there.
As for villains, he has a few. "Titanium Man," a Russian in a less refined, somewhat sturdier suit. (At least, back when he was being used. He's a tad too Cold War specific for these days.)
Another is called, I think, "M.A.D.D.O.K." A big mound of butt-ugly head in a metal suit. I can't see him in a movie.
The Mandarin- He has ten rings of amazing magical power (was it magical or scientific?) that can summon up flame, ice, lightning, light, dark, and so on. I'd love to see a less flamboyant version used in a movie, but I tend to doubt he will.
Otherwise they could use Ultron, a lazer- shooting artificial intelligence made of Adamandium. It would make for a cool crossover reference, and some great fight scenes, but again, it may not work. A tad too "Terminator," perhaps.
Hmmmm. Actually, the badguy to use would be a dilemma. Sigh... I assume they'll just make the badguy a corporation or government agency, like always.

"Prosecutors will be violated."
You know, there are separate threads for each of these topics (plots, bad guys, supporting characters, casting etc) in this Iron Man forum already. Please use those to discuss these subjects (click on the box which says "show all topics from ..."x" days").
