I had wanted to post about The Other cross-over story in Spider-Man comics, but that was when things were going wrong at the old board and I couldn't post. Anyway, here's what I thought of the story so far:
I don't know exactly how many spoilers I should give away, I'll just say that the first 6 parts of the story were quite good, especially part 6 - an extremely tense fight with Morlun. Honestly, this is the only Spidey fight in recent times that I remember actually being on the edge of my seat and all anxious while I was reading it.
Parts 7, 8, and 9, which came out in December, went into the mystical 'totemic' portion of the storyline (written by JMS of course) and explains why the story is called The Other. And no, it doesn't refer to Ezekiel, who has yet to make an appearance. However, I don't know if I really care much for all that mystical spider stuff that JMS keeps pushing. I think I like Spidey just fine as a regular guy who got bitten by a spider. The 'event that will change how we look at Spidey forever' kind of fell flat for me because of the 'mystic' porportions.
After the big "life changing event" was revealed in part 9, I found myself wishing that this wasn't happening, and I've actually almost decided to completely ignore this event like it never happened. Of course, that's just my own opinion and preference. It is interesting to note that parts 7, 8, and 9 were the only parts so far that didn't sell out at my local comic shop within the first few days. In fact, there were still a few copies left 2 weeks after part 7 came out. Still, I've come thus far, I don't regret having read it, and I'll be picking up the last 3 parts to see how it all concludes.
Having not experienced it myself, I heard about and read all about the infamous Clone Saga, and I have to say The Other isn't as bad as THAT whole ridiculous debacle. But I'd rather choose to ignore The Other as something less than canon of the Spidey universe, all the same. And that's my two cents.
