Fuckin'-A!

Wilshire Gas Co.: The building is in chaos; everything is on fire. Jack (who, believe it or not, IS alive) grabs Vladimir Bierko, drags him to the ground, and checks his pulse. Bierko is also alive, and Jack tells the other agents that Bierko should be taken to CTU so they can give him medical aid and get him talking.

CTU: The Department of Homeland Security is coming to take over ALL of CTU’s operations, and EVERYONE at CTU is going to be fired and ordered to leave the premises. That’s right! Bill, Curtis, Audrey, Chloe, and everyone else will be asked to split. Karen Hayes and Miles decide that Bill Buchanan needs to take all of the blame for CTU’s failures, and they draft a letter, take it to Audrey Raines, and ask her to sign it. Audrey reads the letter and sees that the Homeland Security people are taking over CTU, and that they want Buchanan to take the fall. Audrey sticks up for Bill and for everyone else. She says that everyone did a great job, and refuses to sign the paper. Miles then points out that Audrey made some mistakes earlier, and that they can ruin her career even if her daddy is the Secretary of Defense. Audrey still won’t budge, and she continues to stick up for everyone.

Logan Lodge: Wayne finally makes his way inside the retreat. He is looking for Evelyn, with whom David Palmer was trading e-mails (undoubtedly not about what they were wearing), and finds her. Evelyn won’t say anything at first, but (of course) eventually breaks reveals that kidnappers are holding her daughter to coerce Evelyn into providing them with certain evidence.

Wayne calls Jack and briefs him on the developments. Evelyn explains that she is expecting to receive a call from the kidnappers, when they will give her the address for a meet where Evelyn will exchange the evidence for her daughter. Evelyn won’t reveal the people involved and explain what’s going on until her daughter is returned safely. As you’d expect, Jack and Wayne agree to help Evelyn recover her daughter. Jack, Evelyn, and Wayne meet up at an old barn and strategize. The kidnappers call and give Evelyn the address for the meet.

CTU: Audrey receives a call from Jack in which he asks for her help in securing satellite coverage for the location. Audrey tells Jack that she can’t do it because Homeland Security is taking over, and all of the CTU staff has been relieved and ordered to leave. Audrey thinks about it and decides that there is something she can do: She can sign the Homeland Security letter and sell out the others so she can still have access to CTU. So Audrey goes to Karen and Miles, and says she will sign the document if they let Chloe stay under her authority. Karen and Miles reluctantly agree, and Audrey signs the letter. Audrey tells Chloe what’s happening, and while Chloe doesn’t completely understand what’s going on, she nevertheless agrees to help because she knows Jack needs her.

Meeting Place: Jack, Wayne and Evelyn park close by. Jack and Wayne get out of the car, and Evelyn goes to the meet alone. Meanwhile, Jack and Wayne circle around the area and search for blood spatter -- sorry, wrong show – really, they search for lookouts. As Evelyn pulls up to the location, her cell rings. The kidnapper talks…and it’s Christopher Henderson! He tells Evelyn to get out of the car. Meanwhile, Jack is checking out the area, and he spots some of Henderson’s operatives. Jack begs for mercy. Well, no. There’s a brief shootout, during which Wayne has to kill a guy (he has a hard time pulling the trigger, but he gets it done). Jack spots another lookout for Henderson. Jack sneaks behind him, slits his throat, and grabs his walkie-talkie. He manages to pass for the dead guy, and he says that the coast is clear and the swap can take place.

Henderson and Evelyn prepare to make the trade, and then there’s a HUGE shootout (details are sketchy). Jack and Wayne start shooting, and they manage to kill most of Henderson’s men. Evelyn is either shot or run over in the chaos, but she seems OK, and her daughter is safe. Jack goes to Evelyn and asks her who’s behind everything…perhaps the Vice-President?

SPLIT SCREEN: Inside of his car, Henderson makes a call to report progress (or lack thereof). Henderson assures the recipient of the call that Jack will be killed. We now see the person to whom Henderson is talking as he turns a corner and it’s…it’s…PRESIDENT CHARLES LOGAN.

Suck my balls and call me ... Shit, I dunno. This is fucked up!

I was watching "The Punisher" today, and in the film Castle's job was with CTU (Counter Terrorism Unit). The movie came out after 24, and I'm wondering if there is some connection that would have enabled the movie to use the name CTU.

Well, well, well. Again I guessed the big twist (who's behind it all) about 60 seconds before they revealed it. I guess someone really wanted to look like a hero, but that is some crazy crazy behavior. I wonder how he sold it to Henderson to get him to go along.

Anyone else think that Wayne hesitated before shooting one of Henderson's men not because he was scared or worried about killing someone, but because he wanted the bastard to see who was shooting him down before he died? I definitely saw that in his eyes after he gunned the guy down. Booyah!

Audrey's getting tougher, too. I could see her looking at the HomeSec guy and thinking, "I've been tortured today. And you think a little career threat will make me sign your paper? I'd only prostitute my morals for JACK BAUER."

I lurrrrrrrve this show. But only eight hours left! Wahhh!

I dunno, Logan's been a fuckwit since getting into office. This shit would've taken years to engineer, and he could've used the crisis from last season to be all decisive and shit. I dunno. I'm having a hard time figuring out how this plot point will come out not being stupid. I agree that it's a great "fuck you" twist, but after that...I dunno.

And Logan's gotta be Mr. Master Manipulator to look like he's bending to the will of EVERYONE around him, but really, he's pulling all of the strings. It just...I don't buy it. Not yet, anyway.

I'm...yeah...giving them time.
My reaction to the twist wasn't "HOLY HELL, it's LOGAN!!!"
It was more "IT'S LOGAN? How the fuck does that make any sense?"

There's going to be a lot of people screaming about jumping sharks after this one, I think. But honestly...plot holes aside from every season...they've earned a chance to explain it all before we pounce on them.

Well, I knew the VP wasn't involved. Classic red herring. I had my money on Heller, but Logan?!? Wow. I've GOT to see where they go with this.

I figured out it wasn't the Vice after he said "That must be it" to Logan's explanation about why Wayne didn't see him. But yeah, my reaction was same as yours, Adam54, I was more confused than anything else. But I think the writers will make it work somehow. I just don't believe Logan came up with this idea all by himself, there's gotta be someone else that persuaded him or is working with him....(leader of another country perhaps, striking a deal???) I mean, he just looked too genuinely wimpy and spineless from the start ever since Keeler was taken down last season and he had to step in. I just don't believe it for a second that he could've planned it all.

As for jumping sharks....people are just being plain silly. Especially those that jumped after favourite characters were killed off, with many stating that "If they kill Tony, I'm done." Sure I was sad and didn't want them to die, but honestly I think this season is shaping up to be possibly the best season. The writers are doing a great job in my opinion.

However, I WILL be angry if Aaron Pierce is killed off!

China. China, China, China, China.

Jack's not dead. Neither is China.

I just wonder if this isn't some massive deal Logan is being worked over on to get Jack back to the Chinese.

But I agree, there's no way he's smart enough to think that up by himself. At least not without the writers contradicting the character they've built.

And I also agree, the Veep was a classic red herring, and it didn't occur to me til after the fact that this show doesn't play that way. I fell for it the entire episode. Nicely done, as usual.

Remember when you FIRST saw the movie the Sixth Sense?
You didn't see the twist coming till the end, and then what did you do?
You HAD to see the movie again just to see how either the movie tricked you,
or how it all worked.

Not that the twist at the end of this one was that mind boggling,
but now I want to watch the WHOLE season over again,
just to see how the pieces had been meant to fit all along.

And after the show, the first question my wife asked me was if there
were any clues throughout the season that would've pointed to Logan
being the Master of Puppets, as it were. The first clue was when
CTU mole Spenser Wolff confessed to working for the White House,
which then led to things pointing to Walt Cummings. The more I think about
it, the more brilliant it was that all the drama with Walt at the
presidential retreat, leading up to his suicide (?),
and all of it with Logan looking on as the typical indecisive weasel
he's always been.

I just want to know HOW he knew Jack was alive?
Since Chloe was Jack's secret connection to the outside world,
it's probable Spenser found this out and reported it back to the White House.

Adam? The most logical reasoning is China behind all of it.
My guess is this season will end with Jack in cuffs and carted off
to some forgettable Chinese outpost in some wasteland prison,
ala Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne.
If Liam Neeson breaks him out of there in the next season, I will be
LMAO. :D

I agree with that, Traz, but we saw how much of a moron Logan was last season, so I dunno. He needed Palmer to come in to help with those terrorists. Now he thinks he can handle these guys (or does he think Henderson can)? I dunno.

I'll agree, it's unclear what this whole plan serves to achieve, either for Logan or whoever else may be behind it--but I'll give the writers time to show me.

However, if you accept that Logan was involved from the beginning as a given, then it kinda makes sense that he thinks he can handle these terrorists, as they are part of his overall scheme. Walt Cummings' involvement and the veep's suggestion of martial law may have been his intent, but this way if things go wrong he can throw the blame elsewhere. The only question: how much of what happened today was part of the original plan? Definitely the Palmer assassination and the airport hostages, and if Henderson reports to Logan then the syntox gas attacks are part of it as well. I just hope the reveal of his motive is worthy of the twisty plot.

btw, did this twist remind anyone else of that classic SNL sketch which showed Reagan as absent-minded in public, and then full of action in private? I couldn't help but think of it--the extras in the DVD will show the "extra camera footage" of Logan directing everything behind the scenes.

I can definitely see how Logan could be orchestrating the whole thing, and it is masterful.

However, it doesn't jibe with the character we saw last season. He was in a major crisis, and he crumbled. It seems to me as though he had an opportunity to achieve (what I suspect to be) his goals, and instead played the wuss.

I am in the "wait and see" crowd. I loved last night's episode, and this season continues to be a crazy ride. I have no idea what President Logan is doing, and I'm not sure if this twist really works or not, but I'm definitely ready to let it play out to see what kind of an insane explanation there is.

I won't be surprised if the real power behind all of this turns out to be the First Lady.

Man, I think you are all jumping the gun to imagine that Logan is the "brains" behind it all. I think we could still find out that someone else is manipulating him into doing it to the point where he thinks it's all HIS idea in the first place.

DarkJedi

I sorta agree with that, Mobile, in the fact that someone could be playing his naive ass and making him believe he's the one in charge. Logan is one guy who can be played by a midget with a ball of string.

I'm accepting the current story on face value even with weird plot devices just for the fact that the show has such a fast paced rollercoaster feel this year. It's like Adam said earlier in the thread, it's the great ride that is minusing out any weird storytelling gaps along the way. As long as this rollercoaster continues to be rocking and throwing our hands up in the air at a cool 69 mph...I will be cool with what happens.

I certainly didnt like Bill taking the fall though....but I understand the logic behind it in the circumstances. I just wish or hope that the writers leave behind some of the beauracracy bullshit (even if it is accurate in Government Service) because I'd rather see the action and furthering of other storylines much more then inner house powerplays between dipsticks..

Yeah, Logan could be being played by another!

But, of course we have no clue yet to what is up really. All we have is the fact that he was there and that is it. We shall see...
