From what I heard, there probably won't even be a villain in the new Supes movie. Well, outside of Lex, but he probably wouldn't be doing much in the film, anyways. Instead, it'll focus on the relationship between Superman and Lois Lane, and how her new boyfriend would affect them. Sounds kinda like a super-powered chick flick, don't it? After all that, I want to see Supes kick some butt, and who better to go toe to toe with him than Metallo? (Well, there is Doomsday, but he's not listed. Thanks, dmb. :|)

I say Brainiac, but I also wish he would be in Returns.

My choice was Darksied and his parademons, because I want to see Supes in space and defending earth against a baddie who wants to abduct people to work as slaves on his planet.

i voted for brainiac, but bizarro would be great to see on screen. however, i think it would be so fucking cool to have doomsday in a superman sequel. 'death of superman' would be great adapted to the screen, maybe as an end to the series if they ever decide to go that route. but i think it would have to be in a third movie b/c superman would have to be a bit more grown up and mature to handle that type of villain. i think it depends on what direction singer will take with this new version of the man of steel. any thoughts?

I think ultimate strong villians like Darksied Doomsday and Metallo should be saved for the last movies.
wow soonersuperman and biglots used to have the same avatar...
Well I still wonder if there will be a sequel after 'returns" but I guess it be cool...if they change the costume.

damn! should i change mine now?
Is there a villian in the Superman storylines called Black Jack?
I heard something about him being involved in Superman Returns.

don't know about black jack ... don't really know anything about the villians in SUPERMAN RETURNS outside of Luthor ... I'm hoping that one of his baddies is actually Metallo (cyborg with the heart of kryptonite).
If I were casting other possible Superman villians
Brainiac = we'd need someone who can sound coldly logical and and unemotional, but yet menacing at the same time. An evil Spock figure, if you will. Pity Leonard Nimoy is too old for this. Although Ralph Fiennes (CONSTANT GARDNER) sounds good to me.
Bizarro = dual role (under lots of f/x makeup) for whomever is playing Supes ... although Brandon Routh is some shots is pretty "bizarro" already.
Metallo = someone bigger and more intimidating than the actor playing Superman ... Vin Diesel (Riddick in PITCH BLACK) or Triple H (wrestler in WWE) come to mind here
Mr. Mxypltk = An evil Yoda type (with more irony and no goofiness) mixed with Q's omnipotence. I like Ian Holm (Bilbo Baggins in LOTR) for the role here.
Darkseid = So many ways this could be screwed up. But instead of going with the usual James Earl Jones pick for this, I'm going with Dennis Haybert (President Palmer in tv's 24). That guy could the role justice.
These are just some ideas. If Superman's played by an unknown, his rogues gallery shouldn't be.

I'd still like to see Doomsday. Not necessarily the whole "Dies and comes back in multiple variations so we can introduce a whole new slew of books" storyline, but something harder edged than we're used to seeing in a Superman movie. For a guy who's invulnerable it's pretty tough to get any dramatic tension going, so a character who is actually capable of killing Supes would be cool.

The villians for the sequel would be in my opinion great for Brainiac, Bizarro or Metallo. On to the list...
Brainiac: How can you beat Luther? With Brainiac. It's all about how it combines reality and comic book stories. It might work and if done right, will be great.
Bizarro: A cool thing to see happen for the franchise. Maybe Routh can also play him. It would be a wierd idea turned cool. Bizarro...getting more bizarre? 8)
Metallo: Well I chose this guy because from reading the Superman Returns cover story from Game Informer I found this villian being a very cool idea. I hear he's not as big as a skyscraper but it would be cool to see a giant like that seen in the video game. That would be cool to see. A small guy flying around with a giant destroying buildings.
But I'm still not sure if they're making a sequel to SR.

I'm hoping that from now on they treat the SUPERMAN franchise the same as the 007 franchise: each movie is a standalone story by itself with no link to any other movie. To draw a comparison, Christopher Reeve is the Sean Connery of Superman movie actors. And I'm really hoping that this Brandon routh is the George Lazenby of actors to play Kal-El ... a one-hit wonder before the next true Superman actor.
Brainiac....Hmm...Let's see what I just got poped in my head a second ago...
Ok, so if you've been watching Smallville's recent episodes you've seen thier take on Brainiac with that human form but still with the personality of the known character from the comics. Well how about Brainiac having the same look for the film? If there's a sequel with his name on it, would you like the idea of a human looking Brainiac as seen in Smallville? Or the purple dotted one with the green/purple jumpsuit going on? I would like a mix of both with an introduction of the human form that later turns into the true form. Too bad we won't see that in Smallville but for the film? Anything is possible. 8)

I'd like Brainiac to start out as human professor Milton Fine who builds the ultimate Artificial Intelligence, named BRAINIAC, after the real-life proto-computers ENIAC and UNIVAC (or something like this). Fine also possesses latent mental powers such as telekinesis that he doesn;t fully undrestand. Fine is an eccentric scientist who despises chaos and loves order (loves the cycles of natural evolution, hates human wars, etc) ... his personality gets imposed onto the AI, who takes that view to the nth degree, deducing that the world would be a naturally logical place if the emotional humans did not exist. The AI views its own creator as imperfect but useful as a medium and places a microship with a direct link to his mind. Fine begins to undergo changes and his powers grow exponentially. More and more chips and bits of metal go into his body (think Locutus of Borg from ST:TNG). Brainiac electronically takes control of the military and launches a pre-emptive strike against Superman, the one obstacle to its plan of genocide.
That's how I'd have Brainiac in the movies.

my votes with brainiac. with all the exposure from the JLU cartoon last year and the current season of Smallville, I'd love to see Brainiac take on the Man of Steel. I really like FST's origin, of how a human Milton Fine acquires Brainiac and is taken over. However, to tie in more with the television origin - since it's what a lot of people nowadays know of, and it helps tie Brainiac to Superman on a more personal level - I'd take away Fine's telekinetic powers and make him full human. Brainiac would be a Kryptonian AI found in a meteor or something that was lost in the arctic, desert, etc, some far location. Fine finds the AI thru some archeological dig or something of that nature, and Brainiac soon starts to take his body over, eventually taking Fine's body completely and gaining telekinetic powers. Keep the genocide programming (think of Brainiac wanting to create New Krypton), and at that point its time for the big Super-slugfest of Superman vs. Brainiac, man vs machine. as long as Brainiac doesnt have Kryptonian powers (save that for Zod and his disciples, maybe in a third film :D) , i think it'd be a really cool fight.
As for casting, who better to sound completely monotone yet downright menacing than Hugo Weaving, aka Agent Smith of the Matrix trilogy? :D

Pretty harsh words for a guy youve never seen act yet. I think your assesment of Christopher Reeve as the Connery of the Superman films is dead on, Reeve was born to be Superman. I personally wanted Brandon Frasier as Supes, but I think only time will tell if Routh can carry the mantle of being Superman.Plus he might have a clause in his contract for multiple movies; so unless he truly sucks and the movie bombs at the box office , Routh might don the tights for a while.

A downright AWESOME casting suggestion for Brainiac, effektd!
Hugo Weaving would out-Brainiac James Marsters in a heartbeat.
I can see your point about tying in Brainiac with Krypton. But if Brainiac is going to tied in with Krypton, then I don't want to see General Zod or other Phantom Zone criminals. Takes away from the whole "Last Son of Krypton" angle ... y'know, the whole "sole survivor of the doomed planet" and all that.
In the comics, the alien name for Brainiac was Vril Dox. Vril Dox was an organic alien who was destroyed on his home planet for rebelling against the machine overlords of that world. Vril Dox's conscience survived somehow and was transmitted(?) to Earth where it found the brilliant (if alcoholic) mind of Milton Fine, a stage performer. Dox possessed Fine, who temporairly wound up in Luthor's care. The merging of the alien Dox and the human Fine created Brainiac, green-skinned at first, then completely mechanical.
I say: Luthor first, Brainiac next, Darkseid last. There's your Superman trilogy.

Nicely put, and I totally agree. It only goes to Singer and the writer to see it happen. I would like to see Darkseid in the last film. It will be a good way to end it off. And the stages of villians just goes harder and harder for Superman which is what we all want to see. Cool fighting scenes, and when it comes to superman, I think we'll all be satisfied with these baddies on the other side of the corner. 8)

good stuff. i agree with you both fst and bp, luthor first, then brainiac, then darkseid. just stack those odds up against supes, and watch the fists fly and drama increase, until finally its a no-holds-barred fight between the man of steel against Darkseid. holy cow! :D
as a little question, does anyone wanna see metallo? i'd personally jsut have him as a cameo thing, maybe a kryptonite powered cyborg-thug of luthor's.

He's in the video game so I guess I can just let him sit in there and let the big guns handle the movie.
In other words: Nahh... 8)

I actually hate the video game version of Metallo from what I've seen. I much prefer the Terminator-esque version where he is a flesh covered indestructible cyborg with a kryptonite "heart". Although, not the scrawny-looking guy. It's no fun to watch Supes tussle with a normal-sized guy. Make Metallo at least as big, if not bigger than Supes. That's villian that has "henchman" written all over him. He'd be a good enforcer for either Luthor or Brainiac.

But the crazy giant skyscraper size Metallo is very huge and insanely tough to beat but if you want him to be the next Bain then ok that's your opinion. But really I want the building sized Metallo (like in "Path of Neo" the matrix game that has smith kinda copying Metallo where all the metal is sucked on to this giant robot looking body with smith glasses...It was shown in the commercials) because that metallo seems to be a harder villian to beat if he's 50 times bigger than Supes and has a "heart of Kryptonite".

The main reason I don't like the giant Metallo is because that's what I think Brainiac should be able to do.
Brainiac is all about technology gone awry. He should be add machinery and grow to 50 stories. He should be a much, much tougher opponent than Metallo.
Metallo is just a mercenary who wants to get paid, albeit he's in an unbreakable metal body with a kryptonite heart and flesh-covered skin. He'd always be looking for ways to get money so he can get better "skin" so he could touch and feel and smell again ... which he can't do while all metal. They explained this greatly is SUPERMAN - THE ANIMATED SERIES. That's why Metallo was working for Lex: Lex promised him more advanced organic skin to help him touch, taste, feel and smell again.
