Rumour has it that he's been cast. When I first read/heard this, I wasn't sure what to think.
He's a rather good actor from some of the movies I've seen him in but isn't Angel supposed to be...hunky?

Well, Variety magazine confirms Ben as Angel. I'm just happy it's someone I can see as Angel. I think they should buff him up a little though, to make him look more 'hunkish'.

I agree. If he just got buffed up he'd probably look pretty good with wings :)
At least its not Nick Stahl. I dont think he fit the part.

Seems certain Ben Foster will play Angel (http://movietab.com/2005/07/18/x-men-3-gets-an-angel/) in X-Men 3.
I think he should be good for the role, he seems like a very vesatile actor.

I remember liking him in the old show Flash Forward and in the movie Get Over It. I haven't seen Hostage, but I am happy he's casted as Angel. I'm just waiting for any Ben Foster flamers to make unintelligable statements about him. I have a feeling it willl happen soon.

LOL! Great pre-emptive strike there, get them before they get me. I love that!
Anyway, not to be the lone dissident or anything  but I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. Foster is a great actor but he doesn't seem particularly angelic to me. I trust Ratner and I'm sure he must have seen something in Foster to have cast him, but I'd rather see him play twisted evil. This may be a chance for him to show how three-dimensional he can be, but I'm not sure this kind of role plays to his strengths.

Maybe they're going to kind of mix the Angel of old with the darker character of later years. Have him in original angel wings but with a darker and more morbid personality. I think that'd be cool, as it'd add a nice irony to his angelic mutancy.
At any rate, I love Ben Foster and he can easily pull off this role, no matter how it's written. Plus, he cleans up nicely when necessary.

Good points Es, I hadn't considered mixing the old with the new, so to speak. It could definitely work. He still wouldn't have been my first choice but I agree that if anyone can pull this off, it's Foster. Plus, it will be interesting to see him play against type for a change.
Okay, you've convinced me... :P

Hurray! :D
Well...I cant say I like the idea but I guess he can do the role.
But is he going to make darker side of the character? I think that would be good for the film but lets think about the wings...
If the wings will be cgi then it might look too fake. If they will be real they might look like the wings from DOGMA when ben affleck had wings...Both looks arent really working for me...Man, I dont kno what they should do for the wings but that turns me to the point of flying...hmm storm and him flying in the sky together would look cool.

I expect them to do it just like Beast. Part real. Part CGI.
So Rebecca Romijn plays Mystique first in X-Men, then Joan the Mouse in Punisher. Then Ben Foster plays Spacker Dave in Punisher, now Angel in X-Men. What's next? Mr. Bumpo as Blob? John Travolta as Apocalypse?
Seriously though, I don't know a lot about Ben's acting abilities, so I can't really voice an opinion on the casting myself, though it seems people are happy about it, so I'll just go with that.

No, but Mark Collie will play a song in a bar scene for Stacy X...
Yes, I'm kidding.

I hope they do Angel's wings like Ben Affleck's in the movie Dogma. But just a little smoother when moving/flapping.

I'm guessing that the wings would work kinda like Doc Ock's tentacles in Spider-Man 2 or Nightcrawler's tail in X2, a mix of puppetry and CGI.
At least Angel's wings would look better than Ben Affleck's in Dogma. The budget for X-Men 3 should be at least twice than Dogma's
hehe...new topic: HAIR!
long blonde...but I never saw the guy with that style of hair so...i dont kno what they'll do.

He had blonde hair once so maybe if he just grows it out a bit? They'll make it look acceptable. They should know what they're doing
Can anyone post a picture of this Ben Foster? I have no idea what he looks like.

I happen to like the choice, wether or not he's "hunkish". To be honest, I remember The Angel from when he was one of the original X-Men, and I don't recall if he's supposed to be a "hunk" or not. I can live with the casting choice, he's a terrific actor. I actually think that it shows really good imagination on the part of the producers to go with this actor as opposed to trying to find the "hunk" factor in somebody else. Nick Stahl, I always liked him, he's a really good actor, but the original rumor swirling about was that Jonathan Rhys-Meyers was going to be cast, which I think would have satisfied the people who felt that Warren Worthington had to also be a pin-up. But Foster's just as good as anyone else mentioned for the role, he's really good.

Well, I've said what I thought about Nick Stahl. As for Jonathan Rhys-Meyer, I heard the rumor about him playing Gambit, not Angel. I think he could pull off either character but I really want him for Gambit.
Ben Foster is a great choice. As for the wings, they could maybe do it the way it was done in Constantine. It didn't look too fake.

Actually, Constantine's angel wings did look great, but I think they were all CGI. I'm guessing they might make some prosthetic wings for Ben Foster to wear.

Just read Majik's post........ thanks for correcting me on that. Rhys-Meyers WAS indeed being thought of for the role of Gambit, NOT The Angel, as I erroneously stated. Thanks for correcting that, Majik.
However, I think it's going to be a moot point on who get's cast as Remy, because they are already saying that Remy's part is more or less a CAMEO, not a full blown integral part. Maybe they are looking more towards X-Men 4? Hmmmmm....... that wouldn't be for quite awhile anyway, wouldn't it??!

Foster did another episode recently of "Six Feet Under". He was terrific in it..... damn good actor, I'm glad that they cast him in the role of The Angel..... I think he's going to make some really interesting character choices..... people who were going nuts over the decision for them to use Bret Ratner to direct will probably see how well he works with Mr. Foster
(Now, watch.........we start getting insane rumors about how Ratner & Foster aren't getting along!)

YEP! He was terrific in it! The guy was SO poignant, and at the same time, you wanted to flatten him! That's why I'm really glad that they cast him as The Angel.......he's going to do so much with this character, because he's such an interesting character actor himself!
Can't wait to see him spread his wings and FLY!
