This is a huge festival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that is held every year. Most years I try to go once, but past years have caught me there several times. The idea is to try to find a day or days when there are several bands you would like to see, to make the cost more reasonable.

(note to self: drive to Milwaukee in JULY this year, not May.)

I'm going to see 30 Seconds to Mars this Saturday.
Beyond that? Nothing planned at this point.

I'm going to the opening night of Ozzfest and will be about 20 rows back from the stage. Ozzy is only playing 10 of the 25 or so dates and that's one of them. But he's doing it without Black Sabbath this year. I saw him play with Sabbath at last year's show so I'm really looking forward to his solo show. Zakke Wylde is doing double duty closing the second stage with Black Label Society and playing guitar for Ozzy so it should be a rockin' show.

You know, I am downright embarrassed that I've lived in Chicago for eight years and never gone to Summerfest. This has to be the year to change that.

As for my music plans, I am a big festival fan, despite never going to Summerfest. For the last seven years, some college friends and I have been going to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (http://www.nojazzfest.com/). This will be our eighth and a special one, especially for a couple who used to live there. Some other friends live in Austin, so we've been going to the Austin City Limits Festival (http://www.aclfest.com/default.aspx) since it began, and this year will be no different. And for the first time, I'll be going to Lollapalooza (http://www.lollapalooza.com/default.asp?fd=1), now that it's in Chicago and has such a kickass lineup.

Other than that I'll probably keep it to small club shows in Chicago.

My friend just got us tickets to see Bif Naked in KC on May 4th. According to Ticketmaster, she's only doing six shows in the US and she chose KC as one of them!!!! I'm completely psyched, I didn't even know she had a new album out!

Thinking about seeing Tesla next month. Last time I saw them was over ten years ago, about 5 months before they broke up.

I just got tickets to see Fiona Apple and Damien Rice in July.

I'm very excited because the concert is being held at Wolf Trap (http://www.wolftrap.org). It really is one of the best places to see a performance.

I've got tickets through our local summer festival to see both the Reduced Shakespeare Company and an improv with Brad Sherwood and Colin Mochrie of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Those should be a hoot.

I'm hoping I'm going to be able to get tickets for Melissa Etheridge--I saw her in concert about ten years ago and she puts on a great show.

GAAAHHH! I wanted SO badly to see that when they were in town in February! Tickets were expensive though, so I had to do the financially responsible thing and pass 'em up. :(

(and don't think for a minute I don't completely and totally regret doing that....)

Hope you have a great time negs.

Yeah, the tickets for Mochrie/Sherwood were not cheap ($50 + fee), but I figure we lesser mortals have to pay up if we want to see the "snack fairy" in person. Tutus aren't cheap. :D

I'm generally not a fan of nu metal (though I do make an exception for Incubus and Korn because there's more than just standard nu metal schlock to their sounds) which is why I'm not even going to Ozzfest to see the nu metal bands. I'm going to see Black Label Society and Ozzy. That's all. BLS is their heir-apparent to Black Sabbath if there ever was one. I'll be there a good portion of the day since BLS is closing the second stage and Ozzy is closing the main stage (5 hours between end of BLS and start of Ozzy) but really don't care if I see any other performances.

As for 311 (who I wouldn't call nu metal by any stretch of the imagination), if you dig the ska-hiphop-metal sound of the mid 90's, they're one of the best acts to see live. I've already seen them three times making this summer's show #4. A lot of critisisms could be leveled against 311 for going mainstream or changing their sound to fit whatever times they found themselves in but they could never be called a bad live band. Damn do they know how to put on a show.

I'm curious to know what you think of the idea of a Jane's offshoot or, more generally, everything under the Jane's Addiction umbrella.

I'm going to the Jazz fest in June? I rock hard, eh?

The Vancouver International Jazz Festival is pretty much cool I mean... as far as Jazz goes...

My friends went to see Death Cab and Franz last night, I would have gone but was working that night... and didn't have money when tickets went on sale.

Supposedly the concert was awesome.

I just got back from an awesome concert featuring Bif Naked and her two opening acts Vincent Blackshadow and Britt (sp?) Black. It F-ing rocked!!!! My question for all the Canadians out there is if they've heard anything from Blackshadow and Britt Black, considering they're from Vancouver and have albums coming out July 11th. I'd never heard of them until now, but they were awesome! On a side note, the concert was in this tiny little club and I was right up against the stage and had to lean back several times so that Bif didn't hit me in the head with her mic and gesturing! I was freaking out it was so cool!!!!

Whoo hoo for me!!

On August 8th I'll be going to see Death Cab for Cutie at the McKay Events Center here in old Utah. Should be a damn good time, though really I'm not sure what to expect. I mean, DCFC isn't exactly a rocking set and they attract a crowd that I'm not entirely sure I fit in. By that I mean emo kids and hipsters. So it depends just how well this is going to work out....I might have a great time, hear some good music and enjoy myself. It's also quite possible that I might just murder thousands upon thousands of emo kids. So....well, now that I think about it....win/win.

Then, on August 16th, I'll be going to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Delta Center. I'm very excited about that. Stadium Arcadium hasn't left my mp3 player since it came out, and I'm addicted to it. Should be a grand time.

Minion: Will have post concert events.....you know....in August.

*shakes fist*

Damn you emo boy! Peppers were too expensive, and sold out too fast for me.

But in my first (last?) concert of the summer, I'm going to see Aimee Mann and the Honeydogs a week from tonight at the Minnesota Zoo.

Right in front of the dolphin tanks, I'm told.

:D

So excited.

Some time in August (around the 16th, actually), I'm going to see the Foo Fighters do an acoustic set in San Fran. To top it off, it's Pat Smear's first show with the band since he left (it's been, what, 8 years now? Maybe 9? It was at either the 97 or 98 VMA's... think it was 97 because they were on the opening show and promoting the hell out of TC&TS. By 98, they would have been a featured act on the awards show itself). Of course, Ozzfest and 311 are still upcoming and I'm still considering the Pearl Jam show at the Bill Graham Civic late next month but I may be travelling for work at the time. We'll see.

If anyone wants two tickets to Ozzfest at Shoreline, I've got two in upper reserved seating not far off dead center. Not that any of you live anywhere nearby (except Daforce) but I thought I'd mention it.

Well, I did get tickets to see Melissa Etheridge this past Sunday, and it was abso-fucking-lutely awesome. It was at the Masonic Temple in Detroit (an auditorium from 1922), and we had seats eight rows back, left side of the stage. She had a simple three-piece band (guitar, bass, drums) in addition to her various acoustic guitars, and her electric guitar player was fantastic. She rocked the house down, including a version of "Take Another Piece of My Heart" like she did at the Grammys. If you saw her then, imagine a three-hour set with that kind of intensity. It was a fantastic show, and the people-watching was verrrry interesting as well. (Poor Mr. Neglet, he felt distinctly in the minority there.)

Well... I got tickets for Dragonforce (http://www.dragonforce.com/main.html) one of the best power/fantasy metal bands out there. It's at a really cool local venue as well, so I'm pretty happy about that one.
