MAN, I've so been wanting to say that. The Texas Turd Bird personified has taken a fall, so richely deserved. There is NO ONE who symbolizes the hypocritical, self righteous, thoroughly corrupt current ruling wing of the Republican Party quite as well as "The Hammer". And now, he's gone.

Of course, they are trying to spin it as it's all the fault of the "liberal Democrats", hounding him for his beliefs.

What beliefs? That his power and position means he can say one thing, do another and get away with everything he likes? Well, pride goeth before the fall, and ladies and gentlemen, here's a case in point.

If he weren't guilty as sin, the mean ol' liberals would have nothing on him.

And for all you Republicans still inclined to back him, ask yourself this. Is that truly what you believe in? Is his type really the sort that represents the best of your party and you want making policy? Is he the sort you point at and tell your children, "That is an American leader right there,"?

I hope not.

But today, happy day, my friends. He sucks and he's gone.

God, I'm so glad this guy is on his way out. My freakin' skin crawls when he opens his mouth and he just doesn't have a smile I can trust. For about the last 6 years I've always had the sneaking suspicion the guy was up to no good. Good riddance!

Not to mention a really bad hairpiece. Yeah, if he wasn't such a git, I could forgive the rug, but if you suck, you don't help your case with the toop.

I just think it's hysterical that he keeps insisting how innocent he is while all around him people are being indicted. Yeah, sure, Tom... all of your friends are criminals, but you are clean as a whistle.

True dat. Also among the true believers, he hasn't done ANYTHING. It's all the "liberals'" fault, in the media, in Congress, etc. He's being persecuted because of his religious beliefs.

I say, if his religious beliefs were really that important to him, and he really adhered to them, he wouldn't be in the trouble he is today.

Like many who love floating Jesus' name, but kinda forget anything he had to say when it comes to conducting themselves in the real world, WWJD makes a nice bumper sticker, but that's it.

It's a pretty good feeling. Not to say that the GOP is inherently crooked, or the Dems have never had their own, but this latest crop is extraordinarily corrupt, with a brazenness unprecedented. The corrupt Dem Congress took 40 years to get to where it was, this took a little over ten.

Well, that just goes to show there's something to be said for efficiency. Apparently, Republicans can accomplish twice as much in half the time. :D

We got Delay now we need to get rid of Rove, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Bush, not to mention countless others. I hope they impeach all those jerks.

Perhaps, but there is something also to be said for checks and balances. The NeoCons were determined to eliminate them in their mad dash for power. And you see the result. Government isn't about efficiency. It's about government. All this talk about trying to run government like a business is nonsense. That doesn't mean gov needs to be this bloated, expensive ineffective elephant. It needs to be about the business of doing what it does, that's "establish, ensure domestic tranquilty, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare", as it says in the pre-amble. In other words, one that enhances the nation as a whole, not a select elite few, and not as a burdensome anchor over it all.

GOVERNMENT.

It is what it is. You want to be in business? Go start or join one. You want to govern and work in the various fields involved in that? Go do that.

I was more or less being sarcastic. But true enough, governments are not the same as businesses. They don't play by the same rulebook. Government's first purpose is warfare, period(though it can and does accomplish other things, of course). That is the governing principle of any organized society. Isn't it interesting that states with the largest governments are most often at war, or planning for war? That's why power needs to be held in check.

There are many ways to achieve this. In the US, you have three branches of government. But more importantly, you have had, historically, a decentralized system of clearly defined state and federal jurisidictions. And finally, you have had two opposing parties. This is changing.

There is now essentially only one political party, the War Party, with a somewhat "liberal" wing and a somewhat "conservative" wing. The three branches of government are dominated by the most hawkish members of the conservative wing. As are the state governors, as it happens.

The impression I get, is that of an ossified monolith, a Soviet-style self-perpetuating bureaucracy with no ideology other than it's own survival.

Which to me, can only be fixed with some sort of political insurrection.

How about just getting tham all in one place and then dealing with the problem? Say, during July at Bohemian Grove (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Grove) in Monte Rio, in California's Redwood Forest. :)
