Best Captain

Kirk!

Come on, all the others were Kirk wannabes. The others had that one little problem... that wimpy political correctness that marked the "feels" good Trek that Kirk didn't ever have to worry about!

I dunno, I voted Kirk, just cause he's a lot of fun, but Picard is a microscopicly close second.

Picard was a badass who could use intellect and smarts to get through almost any situation but wasn't afraid to fight when he had to. I absolutely loved him for it and, until recently, he was my favorite captain because of it.

But I have to go with Kirk. While his early years were defined by reckless, impulsive behavior combined with swashbuckling and trickery, the movie years saw him develop compassion and intellect and flex those muscles. It was as if all those years beside Bones and Spock had an effect on him. Although he had developed these other facets, though, he still wasn't afraid to kick ass without prejudice when necessary. Picard could fight, but would he have kicked Kruge in the head until he fell to his death in molten lava? Would he have denied Maltz a hero's death just because or because the Federation could lean on him for information? Kirk represents both the very best and very worst in humanity and he does it with morals and conviction. He is everyman.

I voted for Captain Jean Luc Picard. Why? Quite simply, he is the most enlightened of the group.

He combined several elements I liked, from decisiveness, to a keen intellect, to a streetfighting savvy that suited him as a commander on a frontier outpost that had political considerations.

He also dealt with unusual circumstances for a Captain, like being a single father as well as a religious icon for an allied world.
