I just wanted to publicly acknowledge I was wrong about the trailer for the new flick. I had seen it in theatres and wasn't very impressed.

Then I saw it again last month ... in IMAX. And it was cool!

This may be a flick I see only in IMAX. It fairly begs viewing on 10-story-high screen!

ps: Ha ha! I am first to post in this forum!:jumpie2:

I thought the Superman Returns trailer was a perfect teaser. I couldn't be happier that Singer is drawing on the Donner film. You can't do better than that movie and Singer gets that. Using Brando's dialogue and William's music was a perfect choice.

Seeing great lines like Brando's "They can be a great people, Kal-el, if they wish to be.", paired with Singer's shot of the people of Metropolis looking skyward gives me real hope about this film.

And you can't get a better successor to Hackman than Spacey.

Me too, I loved that teaser and thought it was perfect. I think there is a lot of hating on Superman Returns over Brandon's casting and Singers sexuality. Nothing I have seen so far makes me fear it and Singer's previous is pretty good.

The one showed during Smallville lifted my spirits a little bit, but I am still hesitant to get totally hyped over this film. Just a gut feeling.

Am I the only one catching the Jesus angle on this? Read the words of Jor-El again:

Even though you have been raised as a human being, you are not one of them.

They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be... they only lack the light to show the way.
For this reason, above all, their capacity for good:
I have sent them you-- my only son.

Dammit, I'm not even a Christian, and I get chills when I hear Brando speak those words.
Is this Jor-El, talking about Kal-El, or God, talking about...

...?

Slammy, a lot of the Supes mythos (for the last 20 years or so) has been dealing with this superheroes as God or Gods. So it's not surprising that Singer is taking that and running with it. The extended cut that I saw at ComicCon (and again at WonderCon earlier this month) has a definite feel of religious overtones.

Right, but it's no surprise to see this film presented as specifically Christian allegory, to me, at least. What were the two biggest films of the last two years? "Passion" and "Chronicles." The church crowd turned out in drives for both. Fuck's sake, they rented theaters for them. That's big Box Office, and we all know what a concern that's been in the last two years or so. Is it even surprising, then, to see the boys at the WB doing a not-so-subtle push for "Superman Returns" as a Christ allegory? Not even.

Look ahead-- what's gonna be the next movie rallied behind by the Conserative Right as the big event to go see this year? What's gonna be the Big Flick covered by Fox News this summer? I'll bet my yarmulke that it's this one. And it's damn shrewd marketing by the brains at Warner's to do so.

The last laugh, of course, is that the Big H Sign On The Hill wouldn't rally behind "Passion," but it'll sell the Christ angle behind Superman thrice as hard. We learn from our mistakes, we semites do. S'why we still run Funtown. We learn what sells in the sticks. Even if it takes us a season or two to do so.

But look-- don't mistake my word as that of those who run Hollywood. All I'm saying is this: I'm a half-assed Jew who lives out in the world, when I see the Supes trailer, I can see the christian allegory, and I'm still stirred, on an emotional level. Blame the Williams music if you want. It's just a damn good trailer at the end of the day. I've watched it easily twenty times, and when Jor-El says "my only son" and Supes smashes the sound barrier on his way through the atmosphere with a boom, I pump my arm and say "OH YEAH." I'll be there on opening weekend.

You do the math on that one.
