Figured I start a thread about movies here...:D

From the writer and director of Equilibrium, we get his next flick...Ultraviolet http://www.ugo.com/channels/filmtv/features/ultraviolet_trailer/default.asp

This movie has the title that describes the main character at his best; Special... http://www.specialthemovie.com/trailer_large.html

A nicely done spoof of the alien invasion genre; Slither
http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2687934

And just because this has been pushed back until July, I still really like the looks of...A Scanner Darkly
http://www.apple.com/trailers/warner_independent_pictures/a_scanner_darkly.html

That's all I can find that seems worthy of viewing at the moment, if I find more stuff I'll post it as it becomes available.

Slither looks like fun, especially with Nathan Fillion playing the local sheriff. Don't forget to check out the redband (18+) trailer on the Slither website, has some much more interesting footage than the regular trailers! I'll definitely see Ultraviolet, anything with Milla Jovovich is fun, I love her!

Just saw the trailer for Ultraviolet. Visually stunning, and Milla Jovovich rocks in anything she's in. Looks like what Aeon Flux coulda been. Check it!

Even though Pulse is a remake of the Japanese film "Kairo" (notice some very similar shots in both trailers, namely the plane crashing) the American version still looks pretty good. Check it out!

I just stumbled on the trailer for Night Watch. This film looks awesome.

Ultraviolet looks cool. The trailer fooled me for the first 15 seconds. I thought it was the new Resident Evil movie.

Watching all my trailers right now..

So far, I've seen:

Pirates 2:

It definitely looks like a fun ride...I saw alot of returning cast there..even the pirates which were supposedly caught at the end of the first one. The first movies was lots of popcorn fun and this looks no different.

Xmen 3:

My favorite characters from the comics was always Colossus, Juggernaut, and McCoy. All 3 are in this movie so there is little doubt that I will enjoy it. I was a little ticked off that Juggernaut wasn't in the trailer though. I'm curious on what Vinnie Jones is going to look like.

Superman:

I bet it's going to be good.

Now, Im out to check the Night Watch and Ultraviolet trailers.

"Night Watch" is good, but it's pretty damn confusing on first viewing. Plus it's a little too "Matrix"-inspired for its own good. But as a foundation for the trilogy, it's effective.

And some of the imagery in the trailer for the sequel, "Day Watch" - viewable here (http://www.kino-govno.com/?trailers&id=nochnojdozor2) on a Russian site (the trailers are the ones marked "Тизер-3" and "Тизер-3") - is pretty impressive.

I read on article on the Night Watch trilogy on some website (sorry can't remember which) and they said that the first one wasn't all that great but the second one is incredible, though both kicked some serious box-office ass in Russia.

Trailers I saw today:

Ultraviolet:

:D The first 15 seconds, I did think it was the next RE film. lol

Mission Impossible 3:

It looked good or rather a final step in the movie series. I'm interested in seeing Abram's take over the previous two directors.

Omen 666:

As a major fan of the Donner trilogy, I have to say that I was very uncomfortable about them announcing this one. My bud Deacon told me to at least check it out anyway and I have to say that the teaser did pique interest in it. I definitely like the creepiness of the kid in "red" swinging and of course, it's a very good release date.

The only reason I might see this is because Phillip Seymour Hoffman looks awesome as a villain, and it's apparently more focused on the team than just one guy.

The Sentinel (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/thesentinel/trailer/)

No, not the horror movie. This one's got Michael Douglas as an on-the-run Secret Service agent accused of trying to assasinate the president, and he's being tracked down by none other than Jack Bauer....I mean Kiefer Sutherland (I swear, he didn't change characters for this movie). The film adds some hotness with Eva Longoria and the always fantastic Kim Basinger.

Lady In the Water (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/ladyinthewater/trailer2/large.html)

Ok, I'm excited about this one now.

A feature on "The 300", based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Spartans in the Battle of Thermopylae. Hopefully this'll be an "R" rating to give this kind of story the justice it deserves. Those spartans were tough, man, fighting all half-naked like that....

"The 300" feature (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/feature5/large.html)

Finally, a French action flick set in near-future Paris where every ghetto is walled off. One gang somehow gets a nuclear weapon, and a cop and his new partner have to go in and stop it. There's a lot of cool cars, yet for some reason the cop and his partner would rather do a lot of free-running. Made back in 04 but just now getting to America.

Lots of cool stuff heading our way. These films all look fantastic! Hollywood may finally be getting the point that original is better...

Given his first two films (Pi and Requiem for a Dream), screenwriter and director Darren Aronofsky may not be everyone's cup of tea. Hopefully that'll change with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz in the millenium-spanning The Fountain (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thefountain/trailer1/large.html)

If you liked Parker Posey in Superman Returns, you'll love her (with Paul Rudd and Liza Minelli) as the main character in the hilarious sex comedy The Oh in Ohio (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/theohinohio/trailer/)

One generation into the future, humanity has descended into anarchy after women become unable to bear children and the youngest person on Earth (an 18 year old boy) is murdered. Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine (damn he's high profile lately) in Children of Men (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/childrenofmen/large.html)

The Prestige isn't the only early 20th-century-magician-mystery movie this year. Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, Rufus Sewell, and Jessica Biel (the only blemish for this movie as far as I'm concerned) in The Illusionist (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/theillusionist/trailer/)

Hilary Swank gets all Biblical down south (no, not that way you pervs) as a debunker of religious phenomena who encounters evil and what may be the Biblical plagues in a small southern town in The Reaping (http://raincloud.warnerbros.com/wbmovies/thereaping/trailer_500.mov)

Finally, they're mean, they're green, they're teens, they're butt-kicking machines, and this time they've got a fully CGI movie (ok, it's not original, but how can you not love them?). It's the new TMNT (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/teenagemutantninjaturtles/tmnt_large.html)

I can see a lot of my money is going to Hollywood this year.

More newness. The first three movies listed here could have Oscar potential. The last two....eh, not so much....

Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett in a complex story involving an American couple trying to survive while visiting Morocco, a Japanese teen rebel in Tokyo whose father is wanted by the police, 2 Moroccan boys involved in an accidental crime, and a Mexican nanny illegally crossing the border with two American children. Looks like a pretty powerful film about our inability to understand the simple needs of others because we're so wrapped up in our own lives. From the director of 21 Grams comes Babel (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount_vantage/babel/trailer1/)

Rocky's back! Sylvester Stallone as the aging fighter who is drawn back into the ring for one last fight. But how does a fighter from the old days cope with the new era? Not having seen any Rocky movies, I can't really compare, but this actually looks pretty good. Stallone directs and stars in Rocky Balboa (http://www.apple.com/trailers/mgm/rockybalboa/trailer1/)

George Reeves (TV's original Superman) was found shot in the head in his home, apparently self-inflicted. Or was it? One of Hollywood's great unsolved mysteries is brought to life with Adrien Brody, Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins, and Ben Affleck as George Reeves (not crazy about that casting choice, but the character focus looks like it'll mostly be on Brody as the detective investigating the case, so that's ok). Stylistically reminds me a little of L.A. Confidential, which is a good thing, so I have high hopes for Hollywoodland (http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/hollywoodland/trailer/)

God help us. They did it again. And you know you won't be able to look away. Especially the tooth removal bit. All I'll say is......Number Two (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/jackass2/internet_lg.html)

Not sure about this one. Looks kind of funny. Jessica Simpson doing some comedy with Dane Cook, Dax Shepard, and Efren Ramirez (Pedro in Napolean Dynamite). And even more newness...

Ok, The Lost Boys meets The Craft. 4 guys descended from 4 families with the power to do anything (and I mean anything) must battle the descendent of an evil 5th family. The very very cool looking The Covenant (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/thecovenant/large.htm)

Ben Stiller movies are hit and miss for me. This one looks like a fun family film. Due out at Christmas, with Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke, and I'm sure tons of cameos (look for Owen Wilson as a tiny toy cowboy), it's a Night at the Museum (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/nightatthemuseum/trailerc/)

The Beer Olympics, what more can I say. The comedy Beerfest (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/beerfest/trailer/)

Ridley Scott's new film, a drama starring Russell Crowe about an Investment expert who inherits his uncle's vineyard. Romantic yet slightly sappy, it's A Good Year (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/agoodyear/trailerb/)

More stuff.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in a Grudge knock-off. I swear, I thought it was the Grudge 2 for most of the trailer! The Return (http://www.apple.com/trailers/rogue_pictures/thereturn/trailer/)

Usual "unconnected character stories that eventually run together," this time set on a Carribean island. With Orlando Bloom, Bill Paxton and Zoe Saldana. Haven (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/haven/)

Another Truman Capote flick. Don't know how they'll top Phillip Seymour Hoffman's version, but they're throwing a lot of actors in in an attempt. Sandra Bullock, Jeff Daniels, Sigourney Weaver, Hope Davis, Isabella Rossellini, Gwyneth Paltrow, Daniel Craig, and Peter Bogdanovich. Infamous (http://www.apple.com/trailers/warner_independent_pictures/infamous/)

Another Will Ferrell movie, and this one looks really good. An author (Emma Thompson) is under pressure from her agent (Queen Latifah) to finish her new book. She starts writing, but has writer's block as to how she should kill off her main character, Harold Crick. Unfortunately, a Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) actually exists, and starts hearing her narration of his life, which is precise to the last detail. Now he has to find her and stop her from writing before she kills him! Also with Dustin Hoffman and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Stranger Than Fiction (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/strangerthanfiction/large.html)

Interesting stuff!

Robin Williams for President! Williams is a Jon Stewart-type fake news host who runs for President as a joke, only to find out that he's so popular that he wins! Also starring Christopher Walken, Laura Linney, and Lewis Black, and directed by Barry Levinson (who also directed Williams in Good Morning Vietnam). It's nice to see Williams back in a good comedy with Man of the Year (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/manoftheyear/large.html).

New political film with Sean Penn, Jude Law, James Gandolfini, Kate Winslet, Patricia Clarkson, and Anthony Hopkins. All the King's Men (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/allthekingsmen/high.html)

A flat-out fucked up French film that looks 2 parts insane and about 10 parts crazy. Calvaire (The Ordeal) (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/calvaire/trailer/)

Eric Bana plays a gambling man who falls in love with singer Drew Barrymore and runs into his estranged father Robert Duvall at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in Lucky You (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/luckyyou/trailer1/).

But Im playing around over there right now and checking out trailers that are up...just checked out the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and I have to admit, I at least smiled at the fact that I forgot this movie was even being made. True, but I don't try to live like the Venture Bros. Or recreate their weird adventures.

Sure I may occassionally dress like one of them, but only for costume parties, halloween, or Comic Con.

There's a point that some people cross where they cease being a fan, and become something else that is entirely too creepy.

I don't visit the Bond forum. I started a thread in the General Movies Forum called 'Trailer Park'. No one posted the trailer for Casino Royale here in this forum (probably because some people don't visit this forum either), so I did. I'm not trying to take away anything from that forum, but at the same time I don't want to have to wade through 30 Bond specific threads to find a trailer that can found posted in a General Movie Forum. Just like I find the nitpicking of extremely small items in stories or movies (of which comic book fans are famous for..oh no, now I'll to answer to the comic book fans now too? :dunno:) to be boring and irritating.

At last, the first trailer for 300, based on Frank Millar's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae, where 300 Spartans stood against the entire Persian army and inspired the rest of Greece to rise up and claim its freedom. Visually stunning, lots of hunky half-naked guys running around, and tons and tons of action. Absolutely psyched about it, too bad we have to wait until March to see it! You owe it to yourself to see 300 (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/trailer1/large.html)

The hunt is on for one of the rarest diamonds in the world, and the person to find it is....Leonardo DiCaprio doing a funky accent (I think it's supposed to be South African. Ok, so I don't know what that sounds like, but it sounds strange coming out of his mouth.). Actually looks pretty good, lots of human drama, and the inclusion of Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou only ups the film's potential. So...freaking....cool!! The new film from Guillermo del Toro follows the story of a young girl in post-war fascist Spain who escapes into a world of fantasy while traveling with her mother. The beautiful and imaginative Pan's Labyrinth (http://www.apple.com/trailers/picturehouse/panslabyrinth/trailer/)

Del Toro's not the only one with a film about a young girl escaping into her imagination. Terry Gilliam's film looks at a young girl (Jodelle Ferland, Sharon/Dark Alessa in Silent Hill) whose junkie father takes her to live in the country after the death of her junkie mother. Lots of crazy characters and wild Gilliam visuals (the talking Barbie doll heads should be interesting) set this up to be a fascinating film. Tideland (http://www.apple.com/trailers/thinkfilm/tideland/trailer/)

Definitely one of the more interesting ideas I've seen in a long time. In 18th-century France, a boy is born with an incredibly heightened sense of smell. When he grows up, he uses his talents to become a creator of the world's finest perfumes. However, his quest for the ultimate scent turns dark as he begins to murder local women in an attempt to capture their scent. Based on the novel, starring Dustin Hoffman, Alan Rickman and Ben Whishaw as the troubled killer Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, and directed by the director of Run Lola Run comes Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/dreamworks/perfume/lg_trailer.html)

More Eddie Murphy-in-a-fat-suit nuttiness. It almost looks like a prequel to Nutty Professor, showing how the parents met, but it can't be because it's set in present day. We'll see how this one turns out, looks funny though. Norbit (http://www.apple.com/trailers/dreamworks/norbit/1_large.html)

The ultimate nightmare. The gym teacher who tortured you throughout school hooks up with your mom! Sean William Scott comes home to find his mother (Susan Sarandon) is dating teacher-from-hell Billy Bob Thorton. Looks funny, been awhile since Scott has been in anything. Also with Amy Poehler (great line of hers, "Can I get a bigger bottle? I'm an alcoholic, not a Barbie doll.") Mr. Woodcock (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/mrwoodcock/trailer1/large.html)

Wow. That's all I can say. This movie looks incredibly disturbing, and definitely not for people who hate bugs. Paranoia about bugs under your skin leads to self-mutilation for Ashley Judd, Michael Shannon and Harry Connick Jr. in a film directed by William Friedkin (The Exorcist). Looks to be a disturbingly good horror movie. Bug (http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/bug/large.html)

The Tony award-winning Broadway play (more Tonys than any play in 50 years apparently) about a group of unruly British students dealing with life, teachers and attempts to enter Oxford and Cambridge hits screens this winter. I've really been wanting to see the play, now I won't hafta go to NY to check it out! The original Broadway cast even reprises their roles for The History Boys (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/thehistoryboys/trailer/)

A horror film about a family on a quiet North Dakota sunflower farm whose lives are torn apart by an invading darkness. The trailer can only be viewed from 10pm to 5am, so it must be fairly gruesome. With Dylan McDermott, Penelope Ann Miller and Kristen Stewart, check out The Messengers (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/themessengers/)
Edit: Ok, watched the trailer tonight. Looks alright, probably a decent haunted house flick. The fact that it's been given a release date in February does not show a good deal of confidence from the studios. Still, Sam Raimi is producing it, so there's hope!

A new thriller about a teenager (Justin Chatwin, War of the Worlds, The Chumscrubber) who's got a pretty good life...until he's murdered and his body hidden. Now a ghost, he must try and solve the mystery of his own death and be given the chance to live again. Looks interesting, from the producers of The Sixth Sense and the co-writer of Batman Begins (so at least it's got people with brains behind it) comes The Invisible (http://www.apple.com/trailers/touchstone/theinvisible/video.html?size=large)

Trailer for Christopher Guest's new film. This one follows the cast and crew of a movie that begins to get Oscar buzz. All the usual suspects (Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Parker Posey, etc.) return for what will probably be another Guest masterpiece. For Your Consideration (http://www.apple.com/trailers/warner_independent_pictures/foryourconsideration/high.html)

Wow..just...wow. I'm a huge fan of film noir and intrigue movies set around WWII like Casablanca, Notorious, The Third Man, etc. so I'm really excited about this movie. An American journalist (Geroge Clooney) in post-war Berlin searching for his former mistress gets lured into a murder mystery involving Cate Blanchett and Tobey Maguire. Shot in black and white to give it that timeless feel, directed by Steven Soderbergh. The Good German (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thegoodgerman/large.html)

Peter O'Toole is always fantastic, and his new film is no exception (and apparently there's some Oscar buzz for him already). O'Toole plays an actor whose best friend's grand-niece comes to stay. He takes her under his wing, and is surprised by what he learns of his own life. Venus (http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/venus/trailer/)

Saw the trailer for 300 a few days ago and I have to say I'm really freaking stoked for it. I love the novel "Gates of Fire" about the Persian army fighting the small band of Spartans(who knew they were gonna die)...There was rumored to be an actual adaptation of Gate of Fire a few years ago but it died out of Hollywood preproduction due to the releases of Troy & Alexander. Gates of Fire is a story which should be told and Frank Miller's vision of 300 is going to be the tale I've been waiting for.. :D

I would say if you haven't seen the film, you shouldn't assume it's strictly Bush-bashing. It may be more about media-bashing, and the role entertainers can play (or should play) in political debate.

KingVoyeur
10-31-2006, 11:40 AM
I am not a big fan of Bush. But I don't say mean things about him to millions of people. The Dixie Chick's are ashamed that Bush is from Texas. Fine. That is their OPINION. This film looks like another 'let's bash Bush film" OH BROTHER! If you don't like Bush he will be out of office in a couple of years... I can see why people got upset with the Dixie Chicks comments. So they make a films and show the extreme supporters of Bush. Talk about being manipulated! So some people got a little extreme. Some people want to be patrotic. I don't think everyone is that extreme if they want support the honoring of the office of the President of the U.S.A. I wish that the media and liberal film makers would give it a rest.

So you consider the people who said they shouldn't be allowed to speak their mind and the people who sent them death threats for doing so patriotic? All the people who said they should just shut up and sing seem to forget that the purpose of an artist is to comment on the state of the world.

I agree with Negs, this film is about the reaction to the Dixie Chicks' comments and not an anti-Bush message. It's about how people in this country are so eager to take offense at anything and have someone to take out their stress and pent-up agression on. It's also about how people complain about the lack of substance in the entertainment industry, yet when artists try to say anything serious about our culture they get offended.

A great quote from singer Jewel - "Fear of litigation is the new censorship."

It's finally here! The first film in the Russian horror/sci-fi trilogy, Nightwatch, kicked quite a lot of ass. Now, the sequel, Daywatch, is finally coming, and by the looks of it, it kicks even MORE ass! Daywatch (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/daywatch/trailera/)

Vikings vs. Indians. Sounds like fun! Pathfinder (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/pathfinder/large.html)

One of the films I'm really looking forward to this year. Christina Ricci plays Penelope, a young woman who was born cursed with a pig face (snout and all). Her parents (Catherine O'Hara and Richard E. Grant) are desperate to find a husband for her to break the curse, except everyone runs away from her. Then Penelope runs away to the big city, where she meets street-wise Reese Witherspoon. The art direction is interesting and definitely one of the more original films this year. Penelope (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/penelope/trailer/)

I know there's another thread with this trailer somewhere around here, but I thought I'd include it here. The end(?) of the Resident Evil trilogy goes from survival horror to end-of-the world film. I love Milla and this series, so I'll be there opening night! Resident Evil: Extinction (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/residentevilextinction/high.html)

If you saw the Aussie film Undead, you know the kind of wacky humor the folks from down under can cook up. Next up we have....killer sheep?!? Think Night of the Living Dead meets The Birds but with...sheep. Looks hilarious! Black Sheep (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/blacksheep/trailer/)

A cute romantic comedy that I think is based on a novel of the same name. Scarlett Johansson as a put-upon nanny, Chris Evans (yum) as her love interest and Laura Linney as the bitchy woman who hires Johansson, with Paul Giamatti as her husband. Looks cute. This looks VERY kick-ass. Based on Neil Gaiman's book and loaded with a great cast, including Michelle Pfeifer as the wicked witch and Robert DeNiro as a pirate captain, as well as Rupert Everett, Ricky Gervais, Peter O'Toole, and Sienna Miller. When a young man goes in search of a fallen star to give to a girl whom he idolizes (but who doesn't return his affections), he discovers that the fallen star is actually a young woman (Claire Danes). The two then begin a journey across a fantastic land of kings, witches and pirates. Stardust (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/stardust/large1.htm)

I'm unsure about this one. Comedy with Jane Fonda, Felicity Huffman and Lindsay Lohan. I love Felicity Huffman and Jane Fonda's good, but I'm not the biggest fan of Lohan's. May wait until it's on DVD. Georgia Rule (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/georgiarule/large.html)
