I don't know how you can take away from the trailer that it's supposed to be serious.
 I'm pretty sure it's in the vein of Shaun of the Dead wher e the threat is serious but it's tackled in a tongue in cheek way. It's definitely more Shaun of the Dead than, say, Tremors.
