Default Bond 22 Gunbarrel

I have it on very good authority that both Barb and Michael are frequent visitors to this forum.

I figure this would be a good opportunity to weigh in on what we'd like to see for the introduction of Craig's gunbarrel sequence.

Please, lose the crisp, sharp CGI-looking rendering of the barrel. The earlier sequences were "fuzzier" - whether that was intentional or due to the technology, the overall effect was dreamier; more surreal. It never (IMHO) looked as though it were a "literal" representation looking through a barrel. The power of the sequence was its dreamlike quality. The blood was not sharply defined; it wasn't a splatter gore-fest. It was a veil; a curtain closing a life - ultimately raising the curtain on a new adventure.

Lately, technology has replaced the art and the vision. The capabilities to sharpen the detailing, as to incorporate realism, actually create a more artificial sequence. The blood from CR looks more at home on a silly episode of R.L.Stine's Goosebumps. The CGI backdrop (and an earlier incarnation of the 3D bullet) are better suited to the Playstation realm.

Perhaps that's part of the grand design? To tie the movies more to the gaming market in every conceivable angle? I doubt this is really that necessary, as the gamers - new and old - are already aware of Bond's potential and do not need that extra plug.

Maybe it's simply the reality that today's production teams do not practice older techniques and styles. I simply, for one, would like to see more of the art and stylism when designing Bond 22's gunbarrel sequence, and less CGI.

Side note: Looking forward to Craig's spin (literally) on it! He's got the attitude down!

i used to love waiting through the end credits to see if theres going to be a note saying "Bond will return...."
I think they dropped that though... it would be nice to see that again.

No wonder so many of my ideas were used in Casino Royale!

I'd rather make my request a simpler one. Please put the gunbarrel back where it belongs. In front of the pretitle sequence. I'm pretty confident Babs and Michael were going to do that anyway, but it's presumptious to assume that's a done deal. Pretty, pretty please with a cherry on top? And whipped cream?

I think having the gun barrell sequence at the end of the CR opening was good for the style and character of the movie. It was an introduction to Bond for the first time in his career. It was also in black and white and it served to add color to the scene. That Red hitting the black and white background makes a statement, cinematically.

Granted, from here on out, it should be back at the end of the opening scene.

I'm not picky about the gunbarrel, really (what the gunbarrel/dripping blood looks like, wether CGI or not, music, etc). I just really want it to be there in some capacity. Preferably the traditional way with the white dots and the walk across the screen leading into the PTS. What they did in CR was uber-awesome, but I wouldn't want them to keep on doing that every movie.

I dunno. Personally, I'd be a little surprised if they go back to the traditional gunbarrel after taking such a leap from it with the last film. Particularly, since they made the conscious decision to change the look of the actual gunbarrel. Remember the first teaser? The teaser actually had a shot of the classic gunbarrel look, but they modified it for the film.

But yeah... put me down in the "please bring it back" column!

Given the nature of CR and its reboot, it made sense to place the GB where they did and it sort became a 'part' of the story. It seemed very thoughtfully placed.

It wouldn't make sense to continue this approach with future installments; continuity over 40 years is not always a bad thing. I never thought they would permanently lose the classic intro - but for all it's worth, I hope see its placement forevermore where it belongs - the opening frames.

As I mentioned previously in another thread, it will be very contrived if they have to keep finding a way to have Bond turn to camera and shoot at the end of each pre-title sequence as per Casino Royale. I hope they don't as it will get old very soon.

I'm guessing that like the bullet flying at the camera in Die Another Day, it'll be a one-off thing. I imagine we'll see the FOB (Familiar Old Gunbarrel) at the very beginning of Bond 22.

Mckracken, I'm pretty sure they do still announce James Bond Will Return at the end of each film. The only one in recent memory where it was at the front of the end credits was in The World is Not Enough.
