So I decided that I should finally get down to it and learn to use Painter. After nearly 10 years (god that's scary) of Paint shop pro, the transition is hard work. It's not just another program it's a whole new way of creating images and it feels really uncomfortable.

Wondered if anyones got any tips? I know there are tutorials galore thanks to D and co, but I'm really just looking for some one to pat me on the back and say it'll be alright. Preferably with a glass of milk to hand. Seriously though, how should I approach this?

Ah Painter... I've used it for quite some time. Depending on what version you have it's the most powerful natural media emulation program out there. I love what it can do and find what it can't do extremely frustrating. The later versions by Corel are just plain crappy to work with. They try to be Photoshop so much that what made Painter so cool is lost.

My suggestion is to forget about the bells and whistles for awhile and just work with the media as much like you would naturally (think real world) as is possible. Then move into to the more PS like funtions.
