There's probably an easy solution for this, but what can I say, I'm technically challenged.

So the problem is that Photoshop is showing pictures too bright. The pics I take of the net look pale in Photoshop, and the photoshopped pics I put on the net look dark on the browser.
When I'm converting a PSD file to a JPEG on the Save for web screen the preview image looks very dark, but when I open the JPEG file I've just saved it looks perfectly normal. On the net or on MS Paint, however, the JPEG looks dark, like on the preview screen.

I think my photoshop settings are somehow screwed up, but I don't know how to fix them. (Also, the Save for web screen clearly knows this is happening and is just gloating.) Help, anyone? Do I need to reinstall the program?

Actually, isn't there a way to configure all that? I want to say it's through Edit > Properties or something but I'm not entirely sure. I just know that a lot of times my Photoshop will forget my color settings and prompt me to correct them.

Thank you Zac, after much confusion I was able to fix the problem. I think the colours were set to correspond with some nonexistant printer or something... But it's all good now. Thank you too, Dan.

i didn't do anything...just went all computer guy on you and said rip the program out and reinstall it. when in doubt, and you have the software handy.....its the simplest and surefire way to get you back to square one. make sure to backup your brushes, custom gradients, actions, etc.
