Default Satellite Radio vs. Terrestrial Radio

I'm done with terrestrial radio. Satellite is the only way to go for me.

How about you? Spill your thoughts here.

My buddy had XM for three years, so I was used to commercial-free music. I put off getting it because I knew I would fall in love with it immediately.

I ended up going with Sirius. I'll admit Stern played a factor, but so did the NFL and Big East football.

XM has a variety of music. So much so, that it might count against them if you are only into Rock. They are fairly straight-forward with the music, hardly any DJ interruptions, except Bodhi on Squizz.

Sirius has a better Rock selection. Their DJs may break in occasionally, but never more than 20 seconds or so. However, if you want to lift MP3s for your computer or iPod, they may talk over the song. In the end, I like Rock, and Sirius DJs are good in my book, so Sirius is for me.

If you want a home unit, here are some other considerations. XM uses three satellites (the 3rd is new) in an orbit above the equator. If you want to mount a home antenna, it will work best pointing south.

Sirius has three satellites, constantly moving and switching off to one another, above Minnesota and South-Central Canada (word, homeboy). Depending where you are in the country, you need to point the antenna up (duh) and in that direction.

I can recommend both. If you want worldly music and/or want to lift music into MP3 players, go with XM. If Opie and Anthony is your radio show, also go with XM.

If you really like Rock, go with Sirius. (Don't get me wrong, Sirius has a selection of music too. I don't know about XM, but you can listen online for a free trial to see if Sirius' selections appeal to you.) If you like Howard Stern and/or Bubba the Love Sponge, go with Sirius.

Sports: XM has MLB baseball. I think they will be getting NHL hockey soon. I know they've just lost NASCAR.

Sirius has NFL, NBA, and will be getting NASCAR soon. College football varies, for example, Big East football is on Sirius, but ACC football is on XM.

Sirius also lost Fox News as of the new year due to contract negotiation issues. It may come back or may not.

Hmm, nothing else is coming to mind at the moment. I have Sirius and love it. I respect XM, but I like Sirius better. Both beat the living **** out of terrestrial radio. Seriously, I got my unit on December 17 and haven't listened to terrestrial radio since.

Default Seriously, Sirius

Man I'm still tripping on Sirius Satelite!

On the road for 4 hours today, a regular trip I make across the state once or twice a month, a trip made sooooo much shorter with all I had to chose from.

Most pointedly, I was on Sirius 27 - Hard Attack (their heavy metal station) and for just a moment, one blissful moment, I was 16, it was 1992, my hair was down to my a ss again and I heard Suicidal Tendencies, Institutionalized

I was in my funkin glory man.

The only two songs I haven't heard that I want to (but suspect I would if I listened to Hair Nation and Buzzsaw long enough) are "Radar Love" and "Bullet Hits The Bone." Other than that, it's amazing how much I've heard on satellite that I haven't heard on terrestrial in years.

Who here has "joined the revolution"? You should know what that means, btw.

Hey Sicks, just wanted to see if you've ever caught your name on Sirius Faction 28. I spend A LOT of time on the road in my job. A while back I tried to fill time often by calling in the sirius channels I listen to.

Faction's recorded request taker mentions to "send a shout out" to someone with your request. I remembered from this thread that you listened and sent you a shot. Doubt it ever made air or that you would have even been present to hear it, but figured it was worth a try to see if they'd put screen names out there on the air.

Thats all, no biggie.

Sorry. Haven't heard it. On top of not having much listening time lately, I've also divided what I do have between Octane, Alt Nation, First Wave, Hair Nation, Faction, Buzzsaw and Classic Rewind.

But thanks for the shout-out anyhow.
