VERY MINOR SPOILERS - nothing that 99.999% of people won't already know.
So officially this is a "Bond Begins" type job. However I am not sure how they are going to handle this concept and present it in the movie. Yes, Bond is a newly qualified 00 agent in this movie, but I am not sure that they will labour this point, or even actually mention it, in the movie itself. I am not sure I can see them deliberately making M say "Now I know you have only been with us for a few weeks....." or similar in his briefing. Or even attention being drawn to it by any other characters. Especially with the casting of Dame Judi again as M in this movie. I think if they were to go this way then it would be amazingly lame as well, and false. I think they will just mention it as a "concept" quite a lot in the press and publicity for the movie, but then just leave it to come across in the movie in different ways mostly from the character of Bond himself. Having him more prone to mistakes, a victim of his own arrogance or inexperience etc. etc. What do you guys think ? |

I'm not so sure that the movie is going to be a 'Bond begins' story in the way that the recent "Batman" movie was. I know that it's been mentioned as being that way, but if they were gonna do that properly, I think they would've cast a younger actor. Daniel Craig's 37. In order for Bond to be a 00 agent, he'd already have to have proven himself, so I can't see the filmmakers going too far in the direction of inexperience or mistakes, if at all.

Maybe it'll start off with all the previous Bonds reminiscing about their old adventures in a lounge somewhere, then fade to Daniel Craig, who could be a combination of all the other Bonds' personalities. Crazy I tell you!

I'm honestly not sure. I hope they don't belabor the point, but who knows? At least Craig prevents him from being treated like a kid.
Really, I think the whole 'Bond begins' concept is Wilson and Broccoli's way of soothing themselves; convincing themselves that they can go someplace new.

I just have a bad feeling about this "begins" thing overall.
If it were to be a period piece, that would be one thing. But to try to imagine the era of Connery - and then fixate on this here being the origins 40-some years later - all I can say is it should be interesting. |

My impression from reading interviews with Campbell and Wilson is that it's definitely NOT the origin of Connery's Bond. Rather, it's a brand new Bond. Past 20/21 movies didn't happen. More "reboot" than "begins."

You see I am happy with that, as long as they don't labour the point, as mentioned above. As long as it's touched upon maybe, and then you are just left to run with it from your own point of view as an audience member then it'll be fine.
Daniel Craig is actually taking a hell of a risk as an actor taking this part right now and I have faith in him, he is a superb actor and has his feet firmly on the ground. |
