I think the Isaiah Bradley angle is a great idea. Showing that aspect of the Cap story would make the movie more interesting and full of great drama. If they don't use that angle then the Cap movie becomes a drawn out version of the first 10 min of Ulitmate Avengers animated movie. Now that might be cool but then again it might not. I'd rather go for the sure thing. Plus you have characters to use in later Cap movies and Averngers movies.

Also there are basic characteristics that people have, Cap is a bit stuffy, it's part of who he is, Will Smith is the complete opposite to that Steve Rodgers is more Carlton than The Fresh Prince!

Im an African American and I love the advancement of black people in different places as a 1st here in this country. My ancestors, of course, were slaves and I am the by product of that. We may potentially have the 1st black president in November and that will show you how far blacks have come in this country, a truly fantastic thing. But I am also an avid comic book fan that grew up on Marvel and DC and I implore Marvel, DO NOT CAST WILL SMITH OR ANYONE AFRICAN AMERICA FOR THIS MOVIE!!! If the changed the character in the comic to a black character like they did with Nick Fury BEFORE the come out with the movie maybe I can see but dont change his race just because you want to try something new on screen! People have been waiting years to see this movie down right and I prefer to see Captain America as the white blonde guy he was meant to be...

Thank you Sam it's great to hear a black man say that! I couldn't agree more with that entire post.

I'm sorry, but nothing has been said here thusfar to convince me that just because Cap is a white guy in the comics that he needs to be in the movies too.

ciNe-taRium brings up the point that Cap is supposed to be stuffy and that because Will Smith is not stuffy he's not right for the part. Sorry, but that's just not a good argument. He's an actor and does not portray his own personality in every part that he plays. I'd almost go as far to say that the character he played in Pursuit of Happyness was a bit stuffy.

Captain America has never been an incredibly complex character. Steve Rogers, I'm sorry to say it, has always been about as dull as a doorknob. But we love the Captain America character for what he stands for; he's a symbol for freedom and justice. Not to mention the costume can look pretty freakin cool when drawn well.

I know that this rumor will probably be squashed within the next few days, but all I'm trying to say is that if it does in fact turn out to be true; I believe that Smith can put that costume on and make us believe he's Cap. I for one can honestly say that the color of his skin won't make a bit of difference to me; I'll just be happy that the part is going to someone that can act.

I just have three words for Marvel: "Wild Wild West." You want your Cap movie to bomb? Cast Will Smith.

Don't get me wrong: Will Smith is a fine actor, and very entertaining in a lot of his movies. But don't take this next opportunity to bring my favorite Marvel hero to the big screen and throw it away just because Smith is a box office draw. The story is interesting enough without introducing the Isaiah Bradley storyline or (worse) making WWII era Steve Rogers an African American. I know superhero movies are fantasies, but what's made Marvel's stuff so good (and what made "Dark Knight" so successful) is that they're grounded in realism. There's simply no way that the government in 1941 would have made an African American the propaganda hero for the war that Cap was supposed to be.

Ah. Thankfully, this rumor has been debunked.

Watching people freak out over "Will Smith As Cap" is kind fun, I have to admit. When I heard the rumor, I just knew that across America, angry nerds were getting madder.

Personally, I really hate that Cap is an aryan-fighting-aryan. White on white crime, yo! No, seriously, I just never liked that to fight the so-called Master Race, they created the perfect white man. I'd way, way, WAY rather see Steve Rogers played by a Jewish-American, like his creators were. Kirby? Jewish. Stan Lee? Jewish. That's my Cap, baby. He's 100% Red, White, And Jew!

"And just so you know, there were a few Jewish cowboys - big guys, who spent money freely!"

That's like making Superman a platinum blonde! or giving Wonder Woman a short butch haircut! or casting mini-me as the Hulk! Will Smith as Green Lantern, hell yeah, but not Captain America.... just my opinion.
