Default [Comic Review] Blackest Night #8

Review by Chris Beveridge

In Summary:
While there are some side issue tie-ins to close out the Blackest Night series in full, the end of the series itself is pretty strong. It goes big with what's involved, having spent enough time over the course of it talking about death and how much was orchestrated by Nekron, and the revival of several longstanding characters makes sense in context with it all. Some things here are basically expected, the whole White Lanterns Corps, but it's not something that comes across all that seriously. In the larger scheme of things, Blackest Night is a series that worked really well as its foundations were laid over several years in a few different series and places. The culmination of it didn't radically alter the shared universe for the characters but it brings a number of characters back into play. The tie-ins for the series was what helped set it apart in a way because unlike a lot of other event books, they figured in well and added to everything without being forced into it for the most part. And thankfully, at least within this core series, it wasn't all won and saved by the big three but instead focused on several characters and even made it so that Green Lantern wasn't the big hero in the end. This is a solid ensemble work that holds up really well and left me pretty pleased overall.
